Change cosmetics could repair holes?

  • Nothing like that brand new ship feeling.

Now i could tell you an idea about paying a ship builder to restore your ship etc etc but to be honest i cant say anything thats not been said already.

So here is a quick and dirty solution to it.

If you change your ship cosmetics like hull etc the holes are repaired and disappear and you have a brand new hull and mast. Same applies when changing anchor and wheel etc.

So its like telling the ship builder “Hey i need you to paint my ship” and they’re like “I’ll have to repair the damage before i can paint it”

It would be a super easy and quick i would imagine.
    Better than scuttling.

No. Let’s say u riddled with holes grade 4 but all patched up. If I shoot u a hole grade 4 opens. With this suggestion u can repair your holes and have the only disadvantage of long session vs new session ship be removed. Leave it as it is

  • I prefer it as it is now.

Being able to see the character your ship has developed over the hours from all the holes, cracks, and dents lets me know I had a great adventure. Nothing is more disappointing to me when I finish a session and my ship is immaculate since that means no challenges came my way.

I literally had a day where several ships over the course of the session "attempted" to PVP with me but just could not land a shot. Sunk each. Looked at my ship at the end of the session and despite having made a fortune that day there was little sign that I had used my ship at all....

  • Wear your battle scars with pride!

  • Battle damage (even if its from hitting island) should be seen by all, so they can know you been through many many battles and be wary.

  • Been suggested a million times. You should be able to pay some gold and have the shipwright fix your hull damage at any outpost.

    Obviously! C'mon Rare.

Thats not how it works buddy.

If you have a maximum grade hole but its been patched then hit again it will be a minor hole as if it was reset. Its not gonna mean every hole is maximum grade.

Its never been that way and currently is not.

    This idea is purely cosmetic

  • @daringclarky

Well than thats unnoticed by me. I will check that out if i patch a big hole that it becomes a small hole on new damage in the same spot.

^ this upper comment is as a reply to my previous comment.

As u say its purely cosmetic than yes, your original post on the idea can have my upvote.

  • To the people who are saying they like to see their ship damage over the session, all you have to do is not use the proposed feature...

  • I love the look of my ship after it has battle scars and burn marks all over it.
But if you want that new ship look you can.
Simply put all of you supplies into a storage crate, scuttle your ship and load to your ship, go collect storage crate where you left it, and visit an outpost if it didn't already respawn at one to change the look.
A lot of hassle, but the option is available to you.

Because its “a lot of hassle” thats why i proposed this idea.

I think giving players the choice would be the best thing to do.
If you want your ship to tell a story then dont repair it.
If you want an immaculate ship then repair it.

I prefer the clean look. Its just personal preference.
