Solo players not welcome?

  • So I really do like this game and have recently picked it back up. Wondering if the devs are TRYING to get rid of all the solo players or what. As a solo player, I have run into a skeleton ship. I can't beat a crew 3 to 1 as i have to switch between driving, shooting, and repairing). Also I can't run away because they keep pace and will follow apparently through the entire map. The biggest most obvious thing that seems to be a mechanic purely created to push away solo players is the kraken. When I started, sloops could not be attacked by the kraken. Now, no joke, the kraken grips my ship holding me in place, then grabs me and repeatedly dunks me in the water until I'm dead. I have absolute 0 chance to do anything. I have no option to run or even fight back once the kraken grabs me. This makes no sense to have an impossible mechanic to navigate in the game. I thought I was supposed to have fun playing, but it seems I'm being punished for playing solo.

  • @ticked-emperor No they aren't trying to get rid of solo players. However they are trying to convince more players to try to actually find and make a crew. Plus from day one it has been stated solo sloop is Hard Mode. Unfortunately it no longer actually says that when you go to start a sloop like it did at launch, but it has always been the intent to sail this game with a crew.

  • @ticked-emperor Also in regard to your complaint on the kraken. It is so damn easy to kill in a solo sloop. Takes maybe 10 cannonballs. 5 per tentacle and you need to kill 2 tentacles.

  • @cptnpotbeard I was actually not aware you only had to kill 2 tentacles. That is useful advice thank you lol. I played not right at day one, but probably like month one. I remember solo being way easier, but there was also alot less content.

  • @ticked-emperor the kraken is super easy on a sloop. Hit 2 tentacles with 5 shots each. If it is preparing to suck you up, get down below till it stops.

  • @ticked-emperor also, make sure to keep your guns full ammo. If a tentacle does suck you up, you have a couple chances. I have found blundering it as you are going to the mouth can cancel it. But if you are in mouth, aim for the main part of tentacle below you and fire a couple rounds

ALSO, just had idea, maybe try Blunderbombs? Never tried it myself, but that might work

  • I’m a solo player. I don’t feel the same as you do. I feel they just making the game more fun. I’m enjoying it.

  • I would also like to add some advice regarding out sailing your opponents.

If they are in a brig or Gally and you are in a Sloop you are faster then them sailing into the wind. Just put your sails directly forward and sail into the wind to keep ahead of them.

Also take advantage of your maneuverability and avoid ever broadsiding against any ship larger then yours.

  • @talriaen Blunderbombs do work. So do chain shots. My crew and I killed a galleon kraken the other night with blunderbombs and chain shot because we ran out of cannonballs

  • @ticked-emperor Yeah when they started adding more world events to the game the ended up nerfing most AI against sloops.

  • No they are not trying to get rid of solo sloop players. They need to keep them around for others to r*pe and pillage. Lol.

  • Ngl as a solo sloop I can hold my own fairly well, sinking skelly sloops in a matter of a minute between bailing cooking repairing steering and firing
I’ve had skelly sloop and kraken on me, kraken and meg, sloop and meg, they’re all manageable, however other players are not, if you get hit with a chain shot you’re almost screwed already

  • @cptnpotbeard no, i dont mean that you fire them out of cannons. Im wondering if you are being sucked up by one, if you toss it as you are being sucked up, does it drop you?. Since throwing blunderbombs does damage, where as firing from cannon does no damage, just knockback.

  • @talriaen Oh that I haven't tried. I've not been misfortunate enough to find myself in the grasp of the tentacles man of late. But I would assume it does. I know I've managed to swing a sword and get myself out on occasion so I would assume throwing a blunderbomb should work from in the tentacle maw.

  • @mr-tickle5 Be careful not to say into the wind, as it can be confusing. Instead, say with or against.

    He sailed with the wind.
    She sailed against the wind.

Not to be overly pedantic but as someone who actually sails this is not correct. In reality you can't actually sail 'into the wind' we call that the 'no-go zone'. This game does let you sail directly into the wind, not sure how that could be taken as anything other then - sail directly into it!

I annoy my buddies with actual sailing points-of-sail which are more descriptive then like 'with the wind', once you learn them (like on a real boat) I think it actually makes things easier, and it's fun. Your point is valid though, make sure your crew knows what you are saying to limit confusion.

  • i do agree with the pvp part
sloops need a bit pf a buff i just got chased across the map for my merchent stuff the last bit of thing before im PL at the same time i think brigs need a nerf

  • @talriaen Maybe not all Kraken tentacles are made the same? Prior to this update, I had no problem handling a Kraken solo. Yesterday, however, I unloaded 10 cannonballs into the closest tentacle and it didn’t go down - this in addition to dealing with multiple wraps (those seemed to be easily resolved), suck attempts, and slaps. After a slog in which I seemed to be just wasting resources on something that just wasn’t giving up, I flipped the boat around and got out without beating it.

  • @entspeak I honestly wouldn't mind if the Kraken was made harder. It was too easy on sloop. It is a world event.
But I have not heard or seen anything about changes to Kraken, so no idea.
