Sea of Sandbox!?

  • Ok bare with me and keep an open mind, but I have another great idea that could being an entirely new layer to the sea of thieves that will brig long-term gains and player-development. Imagine this: Every island in the sea of thieves has a plot of land, the terrain would look normal, it would just primarily be an empty chunk of land with grass foliage and some bushes, but relatively flat. Near each plot would be an NPC. Let me introduce to you Sea of Thieve's very first real-estate faction. In this faction you turn in wood crates, item crates, fruit crates, and cannon-ball crates. We already have a hunter faction so how about a gatherer faction? Well Myster People you just said real-estate faction. Yes, yes I did. The next layer to this faction is you can purchase land from the real estate faction as you progress, similar to purchasing your order of souls items or the whaleing barn. set, you purchase land instead and as you get a higher level the more land you can purchase. This land is yours to BUILD on, yes you heard me right... BUILD. It gets more interesting from here, you build using every-day materials you sail with. Want to make a building? Purchase a blueprint from the real estate shop on an outpost or from the ancient coins store and you can build your very own pirate base. Reach max level with a faction? Great! You now receive a blueprint for that faction's structure and your new base can double as a fully-functioning outpost as well, but you have to earn reputation with each faction to get that privilege. Remember how I mentioned earlier that every island would have a plot? Your base would save between play times and all you have to do is go to an island, talk to the real estate agent near the plot and BAM you can upload your base. Choose wisely though, you can only do this once per play session and cannot jump from island to island. Once you log out, your base is removed and the plot becomes empty for another player to come along and upload their structures. Remember how earlier I mentioned you use every day materials to build? Well yes, you get blue prints by purchasing them, participating in events, leveling up factions, spending ancient coins on them, or any other way Rare decides to spice up the rewards you get for playing, and you can use your surplus wood planks to create and complete structures! Blueprints could call for planks, cannon balls, crates of silk (YES IT WOULD GIVE THIS ITEM MORE PURPOSE!) fruits, meats, get resourceful here! Well Myster People, what would you do with fruits? PLANT THEM OF COURSE! Farm your own resources once you get the proper blue print or have enough land, chop down your trees to get a small amount of wood and one some fruit to keep and one to re-plant depending on how much it grew! Players would be able to express themselves in entirely new ways by being able to build their own custom bases and outposts, Rare could go the route of an entirely blue-print based system or let players use planks to build custom structures or even a blueprint to build a custom structure where you place walls and such in your own patterns! Incomplete buildings will still show, but just as that, incomplete so other players can see your progress as you build cool things! Not to mention, don't forget to add cannons to your base to defend unwanted company!

    I hope this takes flight and is heard by Rare and the community! Tell me what you think!

  • @myster-people Also don't forget, if players don't want to do this they wouldn't have to participate! Major take-aways of this: New ways to play, new revenue source for rare (Unique blueprints, but not all blueprints), new things to do with your resources (have some left-over? BUILD A BUILDING!), a new function for wood crates, cannon ball crates, item crates, and boxes of silk, and a new way for pirates to express themselves. This also adds a new layer to the end-game as Rare could make pirate legend-specific content for players to build!

  • You're a pirate, not a salesman; you're meant to sail and plunder, not stay inside, sell, or blunder.

    Also, my ship is my home.

    Here's a reminder of what you're supposed to be all about, from the most famous pirate of them all:

    Savvy? ☠

  • This "new" idea has been asked for before.
    Didnt go anywhere.

  • Besides, why build something to last when the session is going to be finite anyways? 🤔

  • It's cute that you think Rare would put that much effort and complexity into anything in this game.

    To be fair, this game is surprisingly deep. 😅

  • @galactic-geek It just looks deep. You can actually only swim down like 100ft lol

  • @waronpants2664

    I agree but still like to post ideas every now and then. Fun fact: the alliance flags were pitched to Rare by me and a few fellow pioneers when we met some of the devs in game and that took off... you just never know sometimes who is watching.

  • @waronpants2664
    But overall I do agree with you lol Rare has been re-skinning content all year

  • @galactic-geek well pirates who don’t want to build their own outpost don’t have to, that is the beauty of this game is that it is what you make it. It would just give people something else to do besides the same quests and re-skinned quests over and over

  • @galactic-geek well it could carry over to the next session! Your builds would save and upload to the next plot you claim in your next session. So while the session is finite, your custom outpost would be another way to show your seniority in the game and show off some of the stuff you have collected besides boat skins and outfits that are now slowly being re-released after it was promised they were unique

  • @burnbacon post the link! I would love to read the post and contribute to the idea! The point of this corner of the forums is to discuss ideas not tear them down. Even if you don’t necessarily agree, insert your own creativity! If nobody generates these conversations then Rare will just continue to re-skin content

  • There's a difference between asking for something that YOU like and asking for something that would fit with the game soul, this just doesn't fit.

    One of the only few ideas that could work for a "base building" idea is a personal hideout. I think it could work quite well if done like Warframe's Orbiter. The Orbiter is where you spawn as soon as you log-in, it is you personal spaceship where you can find a "physical" version of all your menus (matchmaking, crafting, shop, news, etc...), also the interior is fully cutomizable.

    I could imagine a version of the Orbiter as your personal pirate hideout, a small cave-like hideout that you can customize with furnitures that you can buy for Golds and Doubloons or that you can win as trophies as a reward for specific achievements. If you try to get out of it you'll get redirected to a menu where you can choose between adventure and arena etc... Also, you should be able to invite up to 3 pirates so you can make a premade party and show your hideout to your friends. There might also be a treasure vault where you can drop golds to pysichally fill the room with coins.

    As I said, this is probably one of the few ways this could work, but this is not what the game needs right now, it would be a nice addition in the future, but not a priority.

    PS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ei38EeqmPY A video that explains how the Orbiter works in warframe

  • @waronpants2664 Can I remind you that every NPC in the game has name that starts with a letter that refers to his job?

    S=Ship
    T=Tavern
    C=Clothes
    W=Weapons
    etc...

    Learn the meaning of the word, humble.

    This land is yours to BUILD on, yes you heard me right... BUILD.

    So... basically, you wanna turn SoT into Atlas?

    I've known that since cargo runs were introduced - made them a lot easier. It's always a delight to see others' reactions upon hearing about that.
