Cursed sails event

Where does it say that they are giving the sails away and not the figurehead? Also, what is required to earn them?

I too was hoping it would be the figurehead. I took that month off from playing due to work and missed out. I don't understand where Rare draws the line on what "Limited Time Items" they bring back and which they do not. I own almost every other limited-time item in the game and I have seen them give away so many of them or bring them back. to me either you stick to your guns and respect the people who logged in on time, busted some *ss and earned them, or you go back on your word and make everything available.

I am not sure where draws the line on which pieces are to remain exclusive or not, but my preference is around keeping it inline with the lore in some way.

For the figurehead in this case, I feel those who fought all of the original fleets took a figurehead as a trophy and will only be available to those who were there. The only issue here is that I think the current Skeleton ships have the same figurehead as the originals :?

Not gonna lie, the fact that they don't have to go through remotely as much hoops as the original event to get the cosmetics is rather annoying. At the very least respect the struggles we went through for those cosmetics the first time around. In my opinion that was the hardest to complete due to the time constrictions that was applied to it. Hell, even the ships themselves were tougher too, not these nerfed nuisances in comparison.

I mean as an owner of the figurehead, this is a rare trophy for participants of the original event. I'm glad it remains exclusive.

As they said, they were still going to make sure the first participants in the event still had exclusives.

i understand that it's really nice to have something exclusive. For players not to be able to get some of these really cool items is not very nice though, especially considering they're cosmetics.

If it were me, i'd have been plenty happy to rock exclusive cosmetics for the period up until now, and let other players share in that joy when these events launch again. I know I'd be more than willing to redo the original challenge if it meant getting my hands on some of them.

There's no point in hogging the content, guys.

Nobody mentions that the event supposedly started 14 hours ago, the achievements are still locked and there's no announcements anywhere..

ReEdit: Nevermind again, it doesn t seem to be locked, it counts the skelly ship sunk. But weird thing about the journals, it says 0/1 and there is 3 journals.

I succesfully just did the first objective of finding Wanda's Journals for 10 doubloons. So the event is actually working and you can already complete the objectives and earn the rewards.

Edit: I only found Wanda's Journal #1 on Mermaid's Hideaway to trigger the reward and get the objective 1/1 on the website. However, i'm going for #2 and #3 now, to see if i get additional doubloons and possible a 3/1 completion on the website... These events really seems half-done by Rare, and no announcements before now is really amateur-ish from a company like Rare... Oh well.

@cptkerman Try get #1 at Mermaid's Hideaway. I think i hit jackpot the first time around and the #1 journal is the one that triggers the reward and completion of the event.

Mermaid's Hideaway near the merchant NPC at the camp near the pond

Thieve's Haven on the most eastern outer small beach at the ramshackle camp

Sunken Grove at the cave camp deep in the center of the island

@cptkerman you have to find all 3 journals to complete it, even if you found them in the past the 1 in 0/1 is for the sum total not 1/3 I Posted their locations above.

@mightyanchor No, you do not. I literally only picked up #1 Journal on Mermaid's Hideaway and got 10 doubloons and the completion 1/1 on the website, as i've posted earlier above.

EDIT: Maybe because i did the event when it released back then, i dont know. But thats what i just experinced a few minutes ago.

@jebluscrhist Completely understandable in my opinion, to me it doesn't make sense for them to go back on something being limited time, I just don't get the logic on what they choose to give away versus what they keep limited. I think it also makes sense to make it more of a challenge than just 8 skele-ships to get the sails because you can do that in an afternoon.

@jebluscrhist This is certainly not the first example of Sea of Thieves doing this or casting old player bases aside. They have been developing quite a habit of giving away old rare cosmetic items, hell recently they gave away the scars which were super rare to see and now everyone has them.

If I may get slightly off-topic further proof of a disregard for the original player base would be Duke's black market and how those were meant to be limited-time items, but now you can buy them all for SLIGHTLY higher price. there's also the mermaid gems which are stupidly plentiful and give rep to anything you need. How about all the double XP weekends? I mean look at last December where the whole month was geared towards making everyone Pirate Legend, Something that was stated by the developers as being something rare to see and difficult to achieve. you use to see pirate legend ships and know that person or crew had a stupid amount of time on the game and was not to be taken lightly but now I see so many pirate legends that don't even understand how the sails work or that sloops go faster against the wind and galleys go fastest against.

There goes a quote which I don't remember who to tribute it to but it goes something like "if you are going to hurt me then hurt me, just don't lie to me." so Rare, I don't care what you do with the game at this point you have already gone back on a couple of things, and that's fine it's your game but stop lying about things and either just give everything away or stick to your guns and stop. D*cking people over.

My problem with that is that the original event was flawed. They even knew that during the event. My crew and I consistently missed one of the fights because of the time slot / time zone restraint. During the event they were aware of this and shifted the fights time zones to an equally unfavorable outcome. Look at how often you see that ship cosmetic. Very few have it (which is dope I understand the limited nature) but everything else limited was able to be earned. Cursed sails was an event that was impossible for some to complete purely based on the nature of the event.

That’s why the figurehead would’ve been a proper reward on top of the reasons I initially posted.

@jebluscrhist I was there for the event, but got screwed because of how poor the timezone mechanic was. That’s why I’m upset.

They should have offered up the other Sails from this event in my humble opinion, the black ones with the green ish skeleton on them.

There's no progression in this game. Cosmetics are the only thing of value you can keep. If they make all the rarest cosmetics available to all (and far, far easier) then they have no value. Earning those rare cosmetics provided a sense of accomplishment. Taking that away seems grossly unfair.

No announcement. No warning. No heads up. Just start it and not tell anyone. Oh and start a challenge that's only available for 24 hours right at the start of the event. With this event and the last, I only found out they started while at work shortly before the first challenge ended. People have complained about time limited content for over a year and this is more time limited than anything they have done before.

You know, if I want info on a game, I go to that game's website, or at least the site of the developers. If Rare has news, you would think Rare would use Rare's site to announce that news.

Why does a Rare employee say "Announce our new time limited content on a third party site that literally has nothing to do with Sea of Thieves, Rare, or Microsoft. Do not use our very own site where we have dedicated announcement categories for this exact kind of thing."

Why do Rare hate O.G. players so much?
