Mermaids are somehow worse?

  • The mermaids are noticeably worse. Every time I've tried to sneak upto a ship they are spawning literally touching the enemy ship. The faster/closer spawns in open water just isn't true either. Just tried to sneak upto Thieves Haven and it spawned insider the island next to the enemy ship?!

Please, I know it must be difficult but just give us the option to whistle for them instead or something.

  • You can use a rowboat, so the mermaid doesn't appear.

Anyway, this is a game about pirates, not ninjas.

  • @targasbr That doesn't work right now.

The rowboat? I used one yesterday to stole the treasure on an enemy ship.

  • @targasbr Once you leave the rowboat, the mermaids start spawning. even if you don't touch water

I do this almost everyday, they didn't spawn, even when I'm on enemy ship or island.

Good, it's a noticable issue then that will hopefully get noticed. It's not a bad thing to bump a known issue.

  • @targasbr Then you must be the only one that it works for. They broke the mermaids that last change. Tons of people have been saying the same thing

They don't appear, even if they did it doesn't matter, this is a pirate game anyways.

  • @targasbr So when exactly do mermaids have anything to do with 'pirates'? If it's "a pirate game" there shouldn't be any mermaids what so ever by that logic. In Pirates of the Caribbean the skeletons weren't given away by passing mermaids whilst sneaking onto the human boat.

Mermaids and skeletons are part of the theme, there are dozens of stories from the golden age of piracy that mention mermaids and skeletons.

  • An ingame item would be pretty cool like a horn you can use only while underwater and is only audible while underwater a subtle nod to the original p.o.t.c, this could be given to the player during the maiden voyage by the pirate lord or by the mysterious stranger from the pirate lord, only requiring a trip to the bar

  • Merfolk are not obliged to wait on humankind like servants or slaves.
Fairly pirate-centric view to think they should be, but what pirate wouldn't want a mermaid at his beckon call?

Rare has already stated how they are not intended for player control.

  • @barnabas-seadog They are our slaves. They show up no matter what. Also, "Rare" such lots of silly things.

No, they aren't. I suggest you to read about the game. There are lots of cool information about the Sea of Thieves universe outside the game.

  • As someone who doesn't bother other players (99% of the time 😋), I find they work about the same. 🤷🏽‍♀️🧜🏽‍♀️

  • @targasbr I don't really care about stuff outside the game. If them coming when you call is them being "slaves" then them coming every time you leave your boat is also them being "slaves".

If you don't care about the game or its lore, I don't think I should spend my time trying to explain it to you. You should avoid talking about subjects that you don't know.

  • @targasbr kek

  • Sorry but no.
If you can’t do one of the simplest things such as sneaking and tucking. You need to change tactics and try something else.

As many have said. Rowboat is safe way to sneak on players. And the mermaids spawn far from enemy ships, ive Never seen mine spawn but on other side of islands.

Mermaids are out life savers to the sea. Not our pets or slaves. Lore wise in game.
If you can’t understand this, or enjoy the little things and stop trying to be like those horrible Streamers.

    Slaves?

They're just tired of all the disrespectful humanfolk urinating in thier home.
Mermaid: "Get back on your lame no-name boat you sloppy toxic human doucebag!"

You actually think it matters if you want them their or not?

  • Last night I had one spawn when I was on a VERY small island ... and I was pretty close to my ship. In fact, the Mermaid was actually further away than my ship was. Funny enough, it didn't show that greenish smoke, so I freaked, thinking that I had one of the sneaky stowaways. Spent the next few minutes searching all over my sloop.

  • @barnabas-seadog You can twist it to mean whatever you want. Regardless of what side you're on.

  • I think they're working just fine; the same as before, if not better.

  • @waronpants2664 said in Mermaids are somehow worse?:

@barnabas-seadog They are our slaves. They show up no matter what.

There are no slaves in the SoT, only the cursed.

Also, you can always choose to show up - some choose to always show up for work; others always choose to show up for their families - does that make them slaves to their work or family? No, it doesn't.

  • @galactic-geek I always show up when my friends or family need me. Does that make me a slave?

  • Mermaids got some kind of issue currently, the whole change they did was to get mermaids faster and not get them as often when close to an enemyship but they messed it up pretty badly;

If enemy X is jumping off their ship and gets an mermaid and i jump off ~20m away from him, i wont get a mermaid. The game will force me go to his mermaid instead if i don't wanna swim away and hope i get my own mermaid.

Same if a crewmate jumps off earlier than me and they get a mermaid-pop, the game will force me to use that one aswell.
