Hi all,
I'm 4 days in after buying the Anniversary Edition, and I'm here to vent, as well as take any advice that might help my situation. My buddy and I play together, and we have been sailing around in a sloop, taking on quests, collecting chests/skulls/items, and generally having a fun experience when the game is actually working as intended. But we haven't progressed AT ALL. And here's why:
Day 1: Xbox Servers die out 2 hours into play time, as we're selling items at the trading post. Everything lost when the servers come back online.
Day 3: Servers drop out after 3 hours of questing, and don't come back online for hours. Over two dozen chests, skulls and mermaid emeralds lost.
Day 4: The servers stay up! We quest for 2 hours, filling the hold with 10 skulls, 8 chests, and other assorted things to sell. But then for some reason, every outpost we try to dock at has PvP ships either docked, or waiting. We're followed by a sloop for half an hour, and they sink us. We sink them when we respawn, and get almost all of our stuff back. Then, for the next hour, we sail around the map, looking for an outpost to sell our stuff, as we're followed by a galleon. This is what I don't understand. The galleon has more people on board, is faster, more powerful, and has every advantage. What are we supposed to do? They follow us across the map for almost half an hour, gaining ground, then kill us and sink our ship. Another day with no loot. Another day with no completed quests. Another day completely wasted. There were no safe outposts to dock at, and multiple ships trying to sink us rather than actually play the PvE content.
Why doesn't this game have a PvE only mode? Or a mode to help new players adjust to the game? Or even a skill-based system to keep the die-hards away from the noobs? It's just full of players that have completed the endgame content, and now want to ruin the entire experience for everyone else by sinking every ship they see.
You can do everything right. Pray for the servers to stay up, play through quests, keep away from other ships, and you'll still get nothing at the end of the day. It has really put us off coming back. If I could get a refund, I would. I don't think I've ever played such a demoralizing game in my entire life - Dark Souls included. It's just brutally unfair, and apparently hosted on servers held together by duct tape and the power of prayer.
Now my whinging is over, how best would you suggest a two-man party progress to pirate legend in this game?
