Strange sound/music while sailing...?!

  • Question to all: has anyone ever heard a weird sound/music, like a few notes of flutes and violin I’d say, that lasts for 5 seconds? Think of it like the sound you would hear when the Ancient Skeleton dissapears, but its just a random sound you hear sometimes? It really feels like the sound of something disappearing or leaving the game, but can’t tell what it is... I heard it the other day while approaching Chicken Isle, and then 2 more times today in between Dagger Tooth Outpost and Shipwreck’s Bay, but there was nothing out there that popped or disappeared, at least that I could see...

It happens each time for first spot a skeleton ship whilst looking through your spyglass.

  • Why thank you mate, much appreciated! ☠️

  • It's the sound when you get full wind in your sails

I remember being confused by this sound as well. I don't remember seeing it in the patch notes and the first time I heard it as I was scanning the horizon while sailing along, I had no idea what it was.

I figured it must be something important but I was in the middle of open water and hadn't seen anything that I thought was important. So I dropped the anchor and went for a 5 minutes swim to see if maybe there was something important underwater. Obviously there was not.

Personally, I don't think spotting a skeleton ship on the horizon is worth a special sound effect... Especially because most of the time when I see one I still don't get the sound effect. Does that mean the mechanic is broken or am I just not fully understanding how it works?

At this point, I just ignore it.
