A generous offer and much more constructive than most posts we get on here. Though keep in mind that for some, it's not the inability to PvP; it's that they really just don't like it.

I fall into the latter category, as the excitement of PvP just makes me uncomfortable and jittery. And while I like the current balance of PvPvE, I can sympathize with those who also just don't enjoy PvP.

But still a generous offer and I applaud you for it. It's the sort of thing we need more of. Compromise; a hand across the aisle.

  • Can I add you and deploy you as my weapon onto other ships? lol really nice offer though, nice to see all offers of help to fellow pirates 👍

  • @ajm123

As v*ca hombre said, nice offer and very much constructive, but the problem i see is many ot the PvE server demands come from people who completely disagree with PvP and dont understand the gsme and want it to be something else.

  • @bugaboo-bill here, you forgot this: #FREEVACAHOMBRE

  • I haven't requested private servers, but here's my input:

Most of us can PvP just fine. However, sometimes we want to casually enjoy an adventure without having to look over our shoulders. Lots of games have PvP and PvE servers.

I've never demanded PvE servers but I can 100% understand the want for them. If a solo/co-op adventure game came out with the same tactile chill sailing and exploration that SoT has, with the same level of detail or better, and with the same quality of audio design, I'd jump ship (pun very much intended) in a heartbeat.

I play SoT because I love just sailing around exploring and doing my own thing at my own pace, sometimes with friends, most of the time solo. There is, sadly, nothing that compares to it... so I put up with the PvP aspect and engage in it when I have to, not because I want to. I love-hate, hate-love every minute of this game.

Unfortunately, the removal of PvP would require something to take its place that SoT doesn't currently have. There isn't the same level of tension or threat from the PvE currently. The risk is all from the PvP side. So, for that reason, I don't completely support calls for PvE servers, despite being a PvE-centric player.

  • @realstyli

I fully understand that and if i had to choose i would end up with the same opinion about this like you.
If i solo i can beat most new players and average people. I'm not too bad at PvP, but the moment i face 2 foes and only one of them is equal good or even better i stand no chance.
I mostly play in a crew with mixed pirates, some are really good at PvP some are not. I'm in the middle, i have my qualities.
If i solo i dont behave like i'm Mr. Super pirate and keep it low, do only easy things, immerse, collect random loot etc. and if someone comes for me i try the 0815 tactics like board and anchor them or keg and kill them if possible, i may try to outmaneuver them and do all i can, but if i know i stand no chance it's straight into the Shroud for me or scuttle if i have no loot.

I really doubt that an offline or PvE coop Version of the game can keep me playing tbh.
It's exactly that mix i like and to have no serious progression system that grant you even more power although you are already the tryhard grinding the game for month having tons of practice and that cool gun+5

Exactly why I don't completely support calls for PvE servers. The game would need a massive PvE overhaul and balance, as well as vertical progression, to make it appealing in the same way. It's not just a matter of Rare flipping a switch, a single-player/co-op mode would require a lot of work to make it engaging, IMO.

I've said it before, I would love if Obsidian were given the go ahead to work on a full Fallout Vegas style RPG using the SoT IP and tech. Add the ability for friends to join seamlessly and that would be my ideal game.

  • They did add a pve server: Maiden voyage. Play as many times as you want.

  • @danqrl I'm not the best at hand to hand but Id be happy to sail with anyone who wants to learn.

  • Most who want PvE servers aren't willing to learn because "PvP is for griefers"

It'd be cool if you end up converting a few people, but from what I ever see, its people who don't care about understanding the core principles of the game itself, and what Rare wants the world and interaction to be while on the sea and instead its just dumb griefer city

  • There really are some performance considerations too.. I'm pretty trash at melee PvP but the other day we tried an arena match and i snuck up on player completely behind and had blunderbuss point blank. Then the video hiccuped and when i fired the enemy player was off to the side ruining the ambush.

Tried to board a pursuing ship tje other day and just as i had the ladders, it flung me away out into the ocean like a sword surf.

So not only do my melee reflexes lack, but the game performance adds a handicap ON TOP of being trash. It's a miracle i turn in any treasure at all, if i weren't a tactical genius trained in the arts of war, there'd be no hope!

  • @ajm123 Much more appreciated than most of the anti PvE replies.
But, some people just DONT want to focus on PvP, or, in turn, being forced to focus on PvP by the community.
Some people just want to fight skeletons and hunt for snakes and pigs and do long sprawling treasure hunts.
There is a LOT of game there to experience outside of PvP and a lot of SOT players seem to be pretending that this is a PvP game. In reality, the is a PvPvE game where PvP is getting in the way of the experience for some people.
The reason for that is, the lines between PvP and griefing have been blurred in SOT so badly that many players think it is the same thing and that Harassment doesn't exist in SOT. Some people would just rather have the option of not having to worry about the "Fight" both in game and in words and just do voyages.
I admit, I suck at PvP. But, even if you win a fight against another ship. They will just come back and try again. That's not a victory in PvPvE, that's a hassle. Name one Streamer who has become popular by doing voyages and defending themselves. You cant, the biggest SOT streamers hunt down other players and take the loot. Fair enough but players should have the option.

  • @capn-mcquacken I'm all for PvP. I'm against spawn camping and always have been. That's the greifing imo. As far as going back after I get sunk. I'm 100% coming back for my loot. But if you eliminate the option of stealing loot a lot more people would stop playing the game then would start playing it.

I've seen so many posts about getting sunk/harassed that I need to see it for myself. Personally I think if I started playing now it would be a lot to learn at once. So before people jump the gun and riot/spam posts about private servers and greifing I think more should show each other techniques the maiden voyage leaves out.

  • Private servers will probably become a reality. Fallout First anyone? It's just bad business to leave that cash cow untapped.

  • @capn-mcquacken >The reason for that is, the lines between PvP and griefing have been blurred in SOT so badly that many players think it is the same thing>

This, this is the biggest issue but very few will admit it.

  • @jisatsu-kiddo Yep, yep.

  • StepDaddyTravvy, me and my friends just want a server where people are not cheating, we just want to do skull forts/pirate ship battles and fort of the dammed. We are tired of running into cheaters.
