Mermaids!!!

    I would love to see a mermaid tall tale! They exist in game right now as these random npc that show up and save you for literally no reason lol

    I would love to see a story talking about why there are all these random cursed statues all over, maybe add a mermaid haven where you have to swim through an underwater cave to access. And at the end, save a mermaid that ends up being your friend that protects you on adventures!

    The mermaid could be customizable. Different smoke colors, you can chose male or female and change their hair and scales. Maybe even different choices in that glowing trident thing they hold. Adding more customization is always good!

    I would like the ability to summon them too instead of having them naturally spawn because they are a NIGHTMARE and give me away ever time I'm trying to sneak up on someone lol but I like seeing them on the flip side when someones sneaking up on me so whatever that parts less important lol

    The merfolk save you because the Pirate Lord made a deal with them, so that lost pirates are not simply bound to wait for a shark or be taken by the Curse of the Drowned. They cannot communicate with surface languages, nor can they hear them, a few enchanted items allow communication with them. Not enough of these items exist to make distributing them among the pirates of the Sea of Thieves an option, however. There are caves with structures of the merfolk, on the two remaining uncharted islands (map squares K-9 and N-13), as well as many structures of collaborations between the Ancients and the Merfolk scattered about the Sea of Thieves. Tall Tales that directly focus on them would be nice, though they're likely going to be after the tale the Seabound Soul makes up part of.

    Lovely! If there is a deal then do the mermaid tall tale and earn a way to customize your mermaid that watches over you! That was nice to know there was back story but a tall tale directly telling that story would be awesome!

    I agree with you on them adding a Tall Tale but the reasoning to why they save stranded sailors at sea is mentioned in the Stars of a Thief Tall Tale.

    Great Warrior took his arrows and went to make war with Kraken, but he had lost a feather along the way.
    He thought of Singing Snake and the venom it used to bite, and he tipped each of his arrows with the very same.
    The arrows stung the Old Mother and made her sleepy, so that she sank down to the sea bed. Warrior gave out a great cry.

    The Great Warrior refers to a Human (Pirate Maybe?)
    The Old Mother refers to an Ancient Kraken
    The Sea Queen refers to the Mermaid Queen

    The art book describes Mermaid's Hideaway as the 'entrance to their underwater kingdom'. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Tall Tale about the Mermaids that took place here. Also, I do believe (don't quote me on this) that they've confirmed that we will get more into the story of the Mermaids, just not soon. I believe they're focusing on the Flameheart storyline as of now.

    We know they've got the assets of fully cursed mermaids.

    There are a few different places, such as the lore books and Tall Tales (including a journal in the Maiden Voyage), that mention the merfolk and their lore. The statues are theorized to be ones which tried to make it to land and turned to stone, but that's not confirmed.

    Ohhhh...now that's interesting. That would be an interesting story for the mermaids instead of just "uh oh mermaid statues! Go break em!" Lol

    Yea I'm seeing quite a bit on the flameheart stuff so I see why they are distracted. Hopefully in the near future they give mermaids a bit more spotlight since they really dont have a lot going on right now besides randomly showing up to save you!

    Rare confirmed future TT plans involving merfolk some time ago, but also stated that we probably would not see it until a year later. I believe this was during 1 of their forum Q&As.
