Additional Crew type for adventure.

  • Lets be clear, i love the multiplayer aspect of this game I do and i dont want to change it. But i figure a new option cant hurt it.

    Scenario
Ever sail solo chasing a player ship and figure you'll invite a bunch of randoms to assist, only theyre either trolls, noobs or simply ignorant to the activity you are doing and decide to hijack the ship away to go do gold hoarder missions?

What i propose is a new style of crew formation.

You can hire a pirate crew (which is the original system, democratic and everyone gets a vote) just as it is now.

You can also have an authoritive / naval crew. There is a navy outside the sea of thieves and some brave it in thr shroud, if you read the comics you can see so the lore is there.

What this crew is, basically is whatever the host /captain says goes.

    No votes required.
Lazy players or people disobeying can be brigged straight away no votes needed.

The culture will be a one of 'my way or no way at all' just like how it would have been in a naval ship.

It wont cause trolling of people joining as those who join this type of crew know the deal, obey or be brigged. So it will filter the waste and match you will people who will be up for playing and following orders maybe even roleplaying.

Those who want to join and play the game their way or democratically will still enjoy the current system.

What this will do is make would-be solo players engage more with the community as they can basically get the people they need for the bigger ship... Or inprison them til someone better comes along.

Those looking to join said navy style crew will know the captain has all the power, theyll obey and be unified under one person and one leader or face consequences. That means these ships will be likely more unified in their goals with the captains say being final.

Some may not agree with this style or this post even, but as a captain of a ship i want to be able to vet my crew and have ultimate say on where i go and do just like i do solo, but with the added benefit of a crew.

I want to be able to make these people walk the plank and cast them away if they perform thier duties poorly and disobey.

As an incentive, these sailors were paid a wage. The crew therefore will get paid a bigger cut of the spoils maybe?

  • I like this "captancy system" idea...

  • @daringclarky definately would be nice on a sloop since we cant even brig people. i have had experiences where people joined and yea basically took over. once a guy left all our chests in a row boat and sailed off. this is when i started solo slooping. and now i love solo slooping

  • I honestly expected more resistance from this idea but it seems we have all been a victim to poor match making. Id love this to be implemented.

As much as i love solo i dare say id likely play more in a crew if i had authority as a captain.

    I hope they implement this.

  • @daringclarky

I was thinking whether this might be an issue if implemented, but I can't see how it would. Sure, you'd get the occasional person who locks everyone in the brig or whatever, but you get those kind of people on other ships too. Plus, captaincy was a planned addition for the game for a long time, might as well get back to it.

  • As an option, I think this is a good idea. And in the case where you use this, it would be nice if you could save a default ship customization set that would be applied for this.

I understand the whole "crew is to be treated equal" rule, but I think an organized crew is fine long as everyone in the group agrees to it.

The funny thing is I basically suggested the same thing quite a ways back indirectly when discussing ship customization (I thought it was a bug that my ship customization options weren't saved and was told that it's intentional because nobody owns the ship) and was basically shot down in a blaze of flames.

    I thought that too :)

I guess the main difference between the pirate crew and the naval crew is that nobody owns the ship if you are in a pirate crew as its all democratic and fair.

However in a naval crew the ship belongs to the host.
His cosmetics, his vote, his rules.

Personally id like to work under one leader and see how they manage keeping it all together.

    Best of both worlds :)
