  • What new info could anyone possibly contribute to this conversation on this thread? Why is it still open having clearly descended into rules violations and off topic? For context, the mega thread has been long shut down because there was nothing new to talk about on the subject and nothing has really changed on that front. Unless you count the lead designer confirming its still intended to come to Adventure in the last few weeks.

    Agreed.

What new info could anyone possibly contribute to any crossplay thread by now? (Outside of official news)

Don't get me wrong, censoring a topic altogether wouldn't be good, yet neither is spamming it over and over. If people insist on wanting to give their input on the subject (or to repeat their input over and over, whatever that input is), might as well contain it to a single thread. If not this one, make it another of the still active ones and contain it there.

  • @oakenkhan90088

This thread can still be used as a place for discussion. Somethings have been discussed about but the overall issue is a players reluctance to see their thread closed but a competitor thread still open. The OP has been direct at times but I beleive he wants to keep the community together. I've seen him on other threads upvoting ideas from players he fights with. I've also seen those same people upvote some of the things he posts.

We all want whats best for SoT but I think the line gets drawn where people are blaming everything on PC. I'll come across a thread where the first half of the thread I agree with but then the second half is just blaming and calling PC players toxic. Now I can't give an upvote because there whole idea is based on the long list of made up excuses.

Example: Respawns should be reworked!!! So that it works better.

That's fair and everyone agrees. But this example is where arguments happen----------- PC players have super advantages with respawning because of SSD's we need opt out because PC players are ruining the game because i got attacked and spawn killed because PC players can hack and glitch the game and when i kill them they respawn instantly but when i die i take 3 to 5 minutes to respawn EVERYTIME!!!!!!&$<$<÷[@('RHLSNTJDOK

First they ignore the fact that outright majority of Pc's are not good ones. Then ignores the fact that not only PC has SSD but so does Xbox. Then floods the rest of the post with PC hate speech with either complete lies or faults. Like the constant 3 minutes to load into the game from ferry or mermaid. That is excessive and could be your hardware internet or game file, but they use it as something PC is at fault for.

A lot of players have pointed this hypocrisy out but it's ignored.

There would be so much more better unity in the community if players would stop using PC players as an excuse. Respawn needs to be reworked for EVERYONE! Combat needs to be reworked for EVERYONE! Ship and PvE needs to be reworked so that it's more fun for EVERYONE! We are all playing the same game

  • @monkeyshishan

Sorry the PC victim card doesn't fly with me. The OP was wonky to start because an option for opt out doesn't actually remove crossplay from the game.

A more correct title for what the OP wants would've been "Please don't stop forcing console players to play with us".

  • @oakenkhan90088 I have been trying to stay out of these threads but I need to point something out. Console players are not being forced to play with PC players. If you choose to play the game you are choosing to play with us. Im sorry if you guys didn't read that the game was crossplay. It was quite clear when I got the game at least. Opt-out does not remove crossplay from the game but it discriminates against portions of the community and is quite realistically a waste of time. Lets fix bugs for everyone before we start making a whole new lobby selection for people who are bad at the game to realize that they are bad and that it isn't us PC players being good, it is them being horrible at the game. Oh wait they wont realize that they will most likely start saying that PC players snuck in or some other ridiculous thing like that. Get good at the game (apparently that isn't a legitimate thing to say) and maybe PC players wont be as much of a problem since you guys would actually understand how to play the game. Why do we not see people complaining about how they are getting beat by people on a better PC than them? Maybe they realize that they can just get better at the game and not complain to the developers to make the game change for them. Can we have a monitorless PC (im not counting laptops in this case) lobby if we get a xbox opt out lobby? Its not fair that those players are unable to beat those with monitors! We just cant compare those PC players to those people with those monitors. Its ridiculously unfair! Oh wait but those sneaky monitor PC players will sneak in to the monitorless lobby! We also need a hard opt-out so that those monitorless PC players don't have to deal with those monitor PC players if they cant fill their servers! (Im joking, if you do add in a monitorless PC lobby I have lost all faith in the game developers)

  • @monkeyshishan if no advantage exists for PC over console, the dev's would not have added the option in arena.
If no advantage exists, no game would make crossplay optional, every game would be forced.
When an option button is added for adventure mode, you will still play on a full server. 24 whole people will be joined up with you. Then, you can actually play the game, instead of telling everyone else how to enjoy it.
Go ahead and check out when the last time I sailed in SoT. I went from playing daily to not playing after the optional crossplay was delayed. There is no telling how many xbox players have completely left the game due to the slow rollout for optional crossplay. I personally will never play SoT again until the option is added for adventure mode. For the same reason I wouldn't put ankle weights on and go compete in a marathon.
So, keep yelling on the forums about how there is no advantage for PC. History is and has proven you incorrect. Frankly, your arguments will not age well. And this topic will disappear when the option is implemented. Clearing the forums for real ways to make SoT a great game.

  • Close all crossplay threads.

It would then be helpful for Rare to create a new mega thread about it.
But also share some information with the players about any plans they might have, or not.
How it might or might not effect both platforms.
If the player pools are healthy on both platforms.

These threads will never go away!

What ever happened to being a company that likes to keep its players informed?
Lack of information is what is causing all these threads and how they all tend to end up.

  • @jofjjay

All of these old tired arguments against the opt out have already been blown up by the announcement of crossplay opt out in january. There's no point in my addressing any of them.

  • @needsmokes

Yep, until something changes from the stated and several times confirmed intent on rare's part to bring the opt out to adventure mode. Close every crossplay thread.

I think that's something everybody can agree with.

  • @xultanis-dragon know what that sounds like right?? That is some straight GRADE A prejudice. You know what you got me there I never wanted cross play with pc and I still don't and all forms of cross play in games especially with pc should be optional as it is with all other games I play

You know, both sides of the arguments are kinda having a moment over here and coming to an agreement of cease-fire, could you not try to pour more oil on the fire to get it going again please?

I'm telling you that. It would help if you had quoted him in the first place to know what post you are even replying to, because I have no idea what remark you are even referring to. If you are talking about the original post, I'll point out that we are on page 8. and the conversation moved all kinds of places since.

Agreed. There is nothing left of this seahorse except a blood red sea.

  • @bloodybil fair enough I don't know how to quote someone on here

  • @tak225
(shift + .) Its the Greater than symbol found on the keyboard. It will create a symbol that enters that paragraph into a text box.....

    ...like so.

  • @nabberwar don't have a pc I come on these forums via phone sold my pc and laptop pc gaming is not for me

  • @TAK225
Quite possible to do on phone. Its the Greater than symbol or the Right pointing symbol.

Just did this on my phone right now.

  • @captgraykid exactly the same as me expect daily I went from playing a few times a week to none at all because of cross play delay

  • @TAK225

You go to the post in question and simply press the quote link in the post. Hope this helps but I think you can still use the method like @Nabberwar said on your phone. Since its on your phone especially if its am android or iphone. I have used both so I know for a fact its usable on those 2 types of phones.

  • @tak225 If you have a device with a keyboard, virtual or not, it has the "greater than" symbol somewhere.

  • @captgraykid said in Leave crossplay in the game!!!:

@monkeyshishan if no advantage exists for PC over console, the dev's would not have added the option in arena.

Hardware advantages are real, whether it is between xbox vs PC, PC vs PC or xbox vs xbox x, which additions did you buy, what internet speed do you have, what input model do you use and what the refresh rate is on your monitor/tv. Unlike what you believe, the differences do not lay with the operating system that we use, yet it is the majority of the playerbase that runs the xbox one.

The opt out for a controller versus a mouse and keyboard is maybe the only viable reason, all the rest is up to your situation, how much you are willing to spend on your hobby. Yet there is a misconception that controller players equals xbox players, while the systems that we use might have different defaults they both support both types of input model.

In the end why would Rare add xbox to the option? Because it makes the portion that is significantly larger at ease and money talks. In the beginning it was controller vs mouse and keyboard isn't fair, now every excuse in the book comes out; FPS, Load times, Cheating... any excuse to make sure that you can discriminate versus the smaller population of the community, because they have more options by their choice to not be on a closed hardware system.

When an option button is added for adventure mode, you will still play on a full server. 24 whole people will be joined up with you. Then, you can actually play the game, instead of telling everyone else how to enjoy it.

I don't tell anyone how to enjoy it, yet you tell met that if I use a controller I shouldn't be given the same options as you because I have a different bit of hardware under a desk instead of in my living room.

Go ahead and check out when the last time I sailed in SoT. I went from playing daily to not playing after the optional crossplay was delayed. There is no telling how many xbox players have completely left the game due to the slow rollout for optional crossplay. I to have reduce my hours on the seas, even though I do pop in here and there. I am unhappy with the combat system adaptations that they did and many of my buddies have left the game or reduced their hours and solo play isn't as attractive to me as it once was. Nobody stated that if you don't like the game anymore that you have to keep playing it.

So, keep yelling on the forums about how there is no advantage for PC. History is and has proven you incorrect. Frankly, your arguments will not age well. And this topic will disappear when the option is implemented. Clearing the forums for real ways to make SoT a great game.

Many PC gamers have not yelled this, yet many do state: You bought a Crossplay game, yet demand that they don't allow crossplay. This was advertized as such and is one of the main reasons I bought it. Also, other games... they still use headshots, localized damage while this game doesn't do these and other design choices, ability to see battles coming ages away, to address certain inherent differences between the input models. Hardware however is always different in the multiplayer online world, it cannot be controlled by the developers. Xboxes with external SSDs, elite controllers (and what my buds on xbox state would never swap back to a normal one because it is that much better) and the new generation that is coming out next year that is a beast in comparison to any xbox now on the market. The real world moves on, hardware gets better, internet speeds increase, cloud services get offered and all these things cost money... not every PC gamer has a 2 or 3k rig, there people playing on a rig of 300 bucks and people that own a 30.000 bucks system...

In the end: Practice, Skill and all that can overcome hardware differences. I have played games with 18 fps (not kidding) against people with 120 fps back in the day and still could play along... unlike xbox players, PC gamers don't point at someones financial impact on the game if it isn't Pay to win and go ... well I just stood no chance, I played perfectly in that situation. As a PC gamer I also sometimes get royally messed up by random things, I have had pings jump to 300 to 600 where the ship literally just sails under the waves on my screen.

We were promised by Rare: Regardless of Xbox or PC, features would be considered for both... yet I on a PC with an xbox360 official controller and dongle am not allowed to opt out, while according to xbox players: That is the main reason they need one. My PC is better than an xbox, why should I downgrade my system to be given an option, you are the ones that stated it requires its own servers?

All the rest is fanboy excuses, not able to realize that even though we play games to be in a virtual world, it is still tethered to reality. PC gamer, xbox gamer... in the end we are all gamers, people and just want to have a big community to be a part of without elite groups that get special treatment, because something they bought.

Edit: to be clear on the combat change I am talking about is actually the sword misses no longer slow you down, before someone thinks it is about double gun. I am a sword wielder as a pirate, always have been even in the double gun meta periods.

  • @tak225 I use a phone on the forums as well, hit the "quote" on the right hand side or bottom of the post you want to reply to, will automatically open a draft with the quote in it.

  • @cotu42 simply put, at least you still play the game in its current state.
    Obviously you still enjoy it.
No matter how much I hear people tell me even xboxes have hardware differences I am not buying into forced crossplay.
Most people had no idea that it was going to be forced on us from the beginning. As every other crossplay game has the option.
I gave it a chance, I personally have a great PC. I am so disgusted with how easy it is to beat console players that I won't play on PC either. I honestly would hope that the ship I was about to attack would be a PC crew, just for a challenge.
No, after many hours played and many miles sailed. I was disappointed to the point of only checking the forums from time to time. While waiting to hear that the option has been added for adventure mode before I give it another try.
    Have a great Holiday

  • @captgraykid do you not play because FPS and other differences based on hardware or because of controller vs mouse and keyboard?

Why should the option to play controller only be limited to xbox?

  • Fact is the crossplay mechanics were not thought out & balanced correctly. Im a highly skilled xbox player, i can kill pc players but it is challenging. The FPS advantage PC players have is just way to broken to be any fun for xbox players, if things are happening at much higher refresh rate for you & slower for me, then we are barely in the same fight. Also any other game where xbox players & PC players compete. Xbox users usually receive aim assist in order to mitigate the huge advantage PC players have. The rights of a small minority should never take precedence over the collective majority. You said the game will die on PC especially arena mode, why is that? Do PC players not enjoy competing with players of a similar skill level? Cause thats all xbox players are asking for. You expecting players to compete with a handicap is foolish, nobody wants to be your timmy just cause you have unfair combat advantages. You say the PC player base will die & kill the game, if your not constantly fed bots you can kill easily. Did it ever occur to you that the game would actually really die & have empty servers, if the majority of xbox players quit the game do to constantly being harrassed & bullied by players they barely have a fighting chance against.

Ive been on both sides of this as i love this game & i had to buy a PC (done before the crossplay opt out was introduced) in order to ensure, PC bullies arent able to run a muck on my ship spawn camping my entire crew with a single solitary pirate. If one gun & sword can easily destroy four guns & swords in close quarters combat. Its not rocket science to understand that is a broken system. Once i switched to PC all those fights i used to lose, simply did not happen anymore, i still use the same controller, only thing that changed is hardware. I wonder how microsoft would feel knowing one of its games is basically promoting people to quit using & buying their hardware & accessories

I used to be mad about it when i was on the short of end of the stick, making the switch & slaying timmys was also fun. Although i didnt do it much because i remembered how un fun it was for me when i was on xbox. If i could do two circles around a player & he couldnt keep track of me, i would usually just leave them be & look for a PC player to fight. Ultimately im glad sea of thieves bullied me into buying a PC because the visuals & smoothness of gameplay is literally night & day. Unfortunately its hard to enjoy playing on xbox now & thats what the majority of my friends play on but once you make the switch playing on inferior hardware feels like going back to the stone age.

Very accurate. Disgusted would describe my feelings too, when switching from Xbox to pc and back again.

    @Admiral-GreyJoy
    Amen!

  • @admiral-greyjoy

When I had an xbox I would switch from it to PC from time to time. I then spend a few weeks only playing on xbox only to really get a feel for the game and see if it was as difficult as other players described it.

It wasn't. I had to change my play style and had to really work on developing the muscle memory but I was fine after 3 weeks or so. A little bit longer than that to get the play style to change. It was a lot harder for me due to the fact that my hands are injured and I can't hold a controller really well but I did it anyways and never complained about it. Never once yelled "OH MAN PC IS SO UNFAIR" because I never thought about xbox vs PC.

Whenever I did lose I would re-evalute what happened. First, they got on the boat, why? I wasn't paying attention and focused too much on trying to shoot cannons. He killed me with a sword lunge, why? Because I gambled on tried to hit him before his sword lunge hit and I lost that gamble. PC players are always playing with hardware differences, the most in the gaming community, but we never die and then say "OH MAN THEY HAD MY FRAMES THEN ME" or "DANG IT MAN, HE MUST HAVE A MECHANICAL KEYBOARD"

FPS doesn't make you a better player nor does it make it towards you benefit in this game. I know because I capped my FPS on my machine to 30 and have been playing that way for the past month. M&K with 30fps like a certain person mentioned would be impossible to play as but then moved the goal post saying that it works on PC because its PC. Everyone's argument is that playing on 30 fps feels clunky when thats only because you are used to a higher frame rate. Just have to get used to the lower frame rate. Most games on xbox are 60frames but this game is locked at 30.

Do you sit there are complain that PC has some super advantage with frames or that PC players should be capped at 30? No, you don't get that right. You either buy a PC if you want the prettier screen because thats all frames do, or you make a thread asking for Rare to unlock the video settings for xbox which a lot of people would get behind, even PC players.

The fact you believe that its the FPS that effects the game means you failed to realize that again its not the FPS but whats effecting the game is the hit registration which we are all having problems with.

Like in the above post we can work together to balance out the game to better help everyone instead of this hypocritical statements about how SSD's on PC are unfair but they say absolutely nothing about xbox users with SSD's. How M&K are unfair but they can BUY a M&K and play with one.

The main issue is how the xbox community blames PC for EVERYTHING then makes up all of these magical reasons as to why they lost. They blame PC but complete ignore the glaring differences in their own community, the xbox one original which has the worst capabilities for this game vs the xbox one x which is a lot better in almost everyway and has faster spawn rates, which is proof this isn't about fairness. It was never about fairness. They strictly believe that they should be allowed to only play with xbox players because PC is PC. Some have openly said this and one in particular said that yes its true and that PC does need to be cut out like a tumor.

Not all PC players use M&K. Some PC players like me have difficulty with certain inputs and we play on PC because PC has a lot of modding capabilities for inputs. Like the guy who plays on PC using only his mouth because hes paralyzed. But I mean, hes on PC so he MUST be included as having super unfair advantages right? This guy has won matches and killed PC players on M&K but here you guys are complaining about using controllers and saying that ALL PC players have advantages.

Not all PC's have SSD's but we are treated as if we do, not all PC's have high end rigs with 140fps but we are all treated as if we do. Not all PC players hack but not only are we treated as we already use it, its implied that we will cheat because we are on PC. Even though xbox users can use hacks as well, but again, PC is the evil monster because its PC.

You are taking a number of an incredibly small minority of an already small community and using it as the basis for your argument.

The game was marketed for crossplay and the xbox players I play with have had an amazing time. I have had an amazing time. I've made really close friends that I would have otherwise never met. I've had interactions I would have never had if cross play wasn't implemented.

I'm the only PC player out of like 10 to 14 members in our crew. Scratch that, sorry its upto 3 now. Never more than 1 at any time though so eh I guess?

They have never complained about PC, they have never complained that the game is unfair. I've run into other xbox players that completely agree while I've run into xbox players that completely disagree. I've also run into PC players that agree and disagree.

Instead of trying to divide the community and splitting the pool up which will just in the long run hurt the game overall, we could just try to come up with ideas on how to re-balance the game.

Combat is horrible, hit registration is horrible, they can rework spawning because believe it or not, PC players get black screens too.

There are things that effect BOTH platforms equally. We can work together to try and keep the community intact and make this game better for everyone instead of trying to segregate players.

    Like @MonkeyShishan said,

We are all playing the same game.

  • @admiral-greyjoy

If it is just the hardware, why have a controller only option attached to it?

People keep shifting the reason it is required. We might be a minority yet we were actively targeted for this game by Microsoft, they are the ones with the grand plans and promises of a larger community, crossplay without an asterix and features will not be exclusive. I cannot help it if people didn't understand or researched what they bought, they were extremely clear in their messaging in my opinion.

If it is just the hardware, what is supposed to happen when the Xbox Scarlett comes and offers a xbox system with double the FPS, internal SSD and 4x the power, according to the head of xbox?

People on these forums act like xbox is a singular option and will remain that way, which just isn't realistic and not even true at the moment.

Your concerns might be linked to hardware, but is that something that is bound by platform?

If a PC player has the latest hardware and takes it up against the budget version, these differences are also noticable. The whole premise that because you choose a xbox, you choose to play a crossplay title should give you the exclusive rights to opt out of the crossplay you choose to buy.

If I boot up my old rig PC and run it against my new one, they both run the game they will have very different performances. The whole hardware debate isn't a valid reason in an online multiplayer game where reality is that we use different hardware.

Whether or not that is worthy of an investment is on you, yet input lag and the flow, timing that goes along with it can be learned. Is it too much? Maybe consider upgrading or get hyped for the upgrade next year if you want to stick to xbox. Like it or not... xbox one's life cycle is coming to an end. The hardware is a bit dated and is why the new generation is coming.

You even state, it is challenging yet you can actually play along. It isn't some impossible feat that is insurmountable. Practice, play smart and execution can overcome the challenges set before you by the game and your own choices.

    • Need better graphic setting options, you have my support.
    • Need controller input model opt out, I can live with that. I might even use it on my PC to join others.
    • Need updates to combat, totally support it especially at the moment.
    • Need updates in spawn mechanics, we all do.
    • Need xbox only exclusive features to exclude me from the start... now that is where you lost my vote.
