Once you turn in a Athena Chest or a Captain Chest, what happens to the chests? The gold hoarders pick the locks and keep the gold but what happens to the empty chests? I propose that they start selling the chests to us.
The idea is simple, give us the option to buy collectors chests that look like different treasure chests in the sea of thieves. If you bought a Athena collectors chests, it could store 3 items in it and look like a Athena chests.
I would set up a shop on the outposts where you can buy custom collector’s chests. Like the pets, you could only have one chest in the world at a time and the chest would de spawn when you log out. And treasure inside would be left behind if it was stolen and you quit out of frustration. You could also recover the chest at the outpost but it would be empty every time you collect it from the outpost.
For players who don’t have a lot of money to waste on customization collectors chests, I would give the players an option to turn in a chests to this new merchant and he could turn it into a collectors chests. For example, if you turned in a chest of sorrows to this new merchant, he would give you a collectors chests that looks like a chest of sorrows
