fix the fire or get rid of it!

  • fire has basically ruined solo playing. just lost 5 hours worth of work all because an ember from a volcano hit my ship and it WOULD NOT GO OUT! i jumped off my ship, filled the bucket about 200 times and it just wouldnt go out! meanwhile i died every time because even though i wasnt standing in fire i would burn as soon as i would get back on my ship to put the fire out! i understand the point of having a burning effect but this makes it impossible to do any soloing, all it takes is your ship getting hit one time by fire and its a nightmare to get it put out. Quit doing things to deter solo players, especially since the playerbase is small enough as it is. sometimes people just want to get on and hunt some treasure. not lose everything in a blink of an eye because the fire is bugged!

  • First, ask yourself this question, should I have maybe cashed out sooner rather than wait 5 hours? Second, you have a water pump in your ship, no need to hop from water to deck over and over "200" times. Third, and finally, ships don't just burst into flames it takes like 5 minutes for it to actually spread and sink the ship, plenty of time to just sail near an island. At least there you could just pick the loot out of the water and stash in ashore for a later pick up. Over that 5 hour span, had the thought occurred to grab a row boat?

While maybe something went wrong with fire, but your actions certainly didn't aid the situation. If you are going to play solo, at least be smart about it, cash out often and plan for potential failure.

  • I have to agree with @nabberwar about the cash out situation. I solo almost exclusively, and I've learned a guideline that helps a lot: Periodically spread out your loot and look at it. Is it so much that you'd ragequit if you lost it all? If no: keep on keeping on. If yes: sell ASAP.

Side note: Aiming bucketed water is a bit tricky... if the fire didn't go out after you threw a bucketful, you missed. Adjust your ain higher or lower (the water will leave a momentary puddle where it lands on a ship to help you guage it).

  • Agree both sides here. I too play solo only but i have learned to go to the outposts very often.

I also just lost my ship from one lava hit. I tried everything i could to put out the fire but no good.

  • @screamthepoetry Oh, stop being so melodramatic, and listen to @Nabberwar - he's giving you sage advice. I suggest you heed it if you want to have better experiences.

  • @screamthepoetry Oh yay, it sounds like the Devil's Roar is finally hard and not just a nuisance. Wait you didn't know how to put the fire out and that a water pump exists so maybe it isn't :(. Putting out the fires is ridiculously easy.

  • Sailing solo in the Roar without a rowboat ? Why do you waste time & effort and put the loot on your ship ?

  • I find fire on a wooden ship that’s floating on water a real lesson in life. How one can can’t exist in the other but all that sets them apart is the material that is burning.

This sounds like a learning experience. Sorry about your luck. My next cup of grog I raise it is raised in your memory!

  • @nabberwar i cashed out way before i got there. the problem is when i finished chapter one of the voyage, chapter 2 was all the way on the opposite side of the map, so on the way there i dealt with; two other ships i had to fight with and get away from,a megalodon, & an undead ship. by the time i got over to where the voyage was taking me it was at least 2 hours. Then when i got over there before i got the treasure my ship was sunk by the fire, respawned me on the opposite side again, scuttled my ship to try to get put somewhere closer, didnt. finally made my way back to where the treasure was, avoided the lava, killed a captain, got my treasure. was heading back and got hit with one projectile from the volcano as i was escaping. and it engulfed my entire ship withing seconds, had it all put out but one little bit of flame on the steps but it WOULD NOT GO OUT. kept spreading and no matter what i did it just wouldnt go out on the steps so getting the rest of it was pointless.

@lem0n-curry said in fix the fire or get rid of it!:

Sailing solo in the Roar without a rowboat ? Why do you waste time & effort and put the loot on your ship ?

I had a rowboat. did me no good because i kept getting burnt alive because the fire wouldnt go out. Then it kept putting me on the opposite side of the map.

Like i said the problem isnt that there is fire, its that its bugged as hell and doesnt go out sometimes, and it just cost me a voyage.

  • @screamthepoetry bro fire is sooooo easy as a solo player, you have to be joking, and you know there is a water barrel on the ship now. this is sooo funny to me because i was literally talking to people last night about how this ballances solo slooping, vs galleons, it is easier for us solo sloopers to kill galleons, because the bigger the ship, the more fire, the harder it is to put it out. sloops is super easy to put out, it amazes me you say this, i feel like you musnt know about the water barrel, and maybe you dont know you have to left click the water onto it, also you can put yourself out, by right clicking. honestly mate you just have no clue what you are doing, you will learn tho

  • @screamthepoetry I had the same experience 3 ghost ships attacked me with an endless supply of fire canon balls between putting out the fires, patching my ship and bailing water. I spent 40 min trying to keep my boat a float, manged to sink one of the 3 that attacked me, but I could not shoot back because the amount of fire cannon balls the AI had were ridiculous. I would put a fire out to go get another bucket and by the time I returned they hit me with another fire cannon ball so I had to put out the same fire. I lasted 45 min before they killed me enough times to have my boat sink. They need to make some adjustments for sure at least to the number of fire canon balls the AI ships have at least. I probably will not solo anymore because of that. Felt like I was playing Sea of Firemen LOL.

  • @screamthepoetry
Fire spreads through the deck. When focusing only on one deck, it can seem like the fire never goes out and pops back up randomly, because chances are the deck below or above is fully engulfed. If you pour some water into the hull and fill it a bit, the entire lower deck will extinguish and become immune to more fire. Note that you will see a patch of smoke and sparks on the deck just before that spot sets alight, and throwing the water there will produce a large cloud of steam and cancel the fire starting. If these spots appear randomly on deck, another deck is on fire. Note that once confined to the top deck (and the middle deck on a galleon), you have as long as you need to put out the fire, as it can only break walls directly next to where it is burning. Fire on the bottom deck will quickly extinguish itself and provide a more accessible replenishing water source than the onboard water barrel. I recommend you leave a single hole for a small amount of time to help with the fire if needed, but be wary that all of the water you throw at the fire will flow back down to the bottom of the hull.
Also, no, fire wasn't introduced to deter soloing. Fire spreads faster on larger ships (the actual rate is faster, not just there being more to spread to), balancing out how many crew members should be available. The sloop appears to be tuned to somewhere between duo and solo, however that I am not sure on.

    @SlipShift
You sailed into the ashen skeleton fleet. It's a normal skeleton fleet in function, but the skeleton ships have fire bombs instead of cursed cannonballs. Sailing away from the red ship cloud will cause the attacking skeleton ships to abandon their chase and sail back to beneath the cloud. Normal skeleton ships do not spawn more than one at a time (causing a roaming ship to attack is another thing, however), and as of now do not seem to have fire bombs. Some may, but remember that skeleton ships are also susceptible to fire. It appears that fire bombs fired at a skeleton ship cause much more fire, however while the skeletons do not extinguish it the dampness of the ship will stem it eventually. One well-placed fire bomb can rid the deck of skeletons to fire back at you for some time.

  • @screamthepoetry bruh. Being on fire is like the best thing that can happen for a solo player. You know how easy it is to put fire out and bail a ship at the same time? Just throw the water from your hull onto the fire and you dont even have to toss it overboard. On a brig or galley its even better.

You can solo the red fleet clouds because of this and even go for boarding if you time things properly.

  • @slipshift the only. Way for you to get attacked by 3 skelly ships at the same time is that you went to the ashen skelly fleet.

This is a risk you took willingly because there is a flippin bright red ship cloud in the sky.

No this has no need being nerfed there are multiple people already succesfully soloing that.

  • @callmebackdraft ye they are easier now than before with cursed balls, anchor ball + dance ball or sleeping ball worst case(solo).even oos missions should be way easier now just throw firebombs on pistol skellis and they will die in seconds

  • There does appear to be a bug with the fire sometimes. Ocean water and leak water fails to extinguish the fire occasionally, while barrel water works fine. Throw a bucket of barrel water into your hull, and all the hull water becomes usable to extinguish.

For fleets, i intentionally ram the first ship to create a small hole, then immediately throw barrel water into the hull to 'activate' the leak water. This provides unlimited fire water, extinguishes burning pirates, and provides a workaround for the ocean water and leak water bug (until you repair and empty your ship).

  • @pomalotacusmk3 hasnt happened to me, are you sure its not just reigniting, cause that happens, the fire spreads, sometimes you put it out and it just lights back up right away

  • Last night my buddy and I set our sloop on fire at the end of our session just to watch it burn. For science! It took like 5 min to really get going and felt like forever to finally sink.

While this happend a solo sloop must have seen it in the distance and sailed up to us. We were in a good mood so we waited to see what he would do. He proceeded to set his ship on fire and we watched it burn whilst playing instruments.

Before it burned down, he started putting it out. So we decided to help. The sloop had a lot of holes and the mast had fallen. We patched her up put out all the fire and he sailed away with a newly blackened ship.

Point was, the fire was tough to extinguish even with three people, but we let it get out of control.

When the deck was struck by lightning, we put out the fire right away. I'm assuming an unattended fire will be harder and harder to extinguish. I like the mechanic so far.

Being solo is always difficult. Remember that. The world hates you. Prepare for the worst at all times. Make short runs if you want to minimize loss

  • @d4m0r3d do you not see the 'founder' title under my name..been playing this game since the alpha. How tf do you get that its easier for solo players?? a galleon can have one person steer the ship while others repair & put the fire out. as a solo player trying to get out of danger while putting fire out, especially when its bugged and the fire doesnt go out WHICH IS WHY MY TITLE SAYS TO FIX IT.

    reading comprehension..

  • @screamthepoetry
For someone with the Founders title, your stats certainly don't match a player whose played since beta. Your highest Faction loot is 179 GH. That's figuratively peanuts and could be accomplished in a week.

  • @screamthepoetry

Don't try to pull rank like that. Your title means nothing. Many pirate legends with Athena's Fortune level 10 are horrible at the game, because all they do is grind. I've beat players who played the alpha and have that same Founder's title, despite not having it myself. Fire spreads slower on smaller ships, and has less places to spread as well. Fire on the bottom deck will extinguish itself by breaking holes into the wall and covering itself in water. Water from flooding thrown at a fire will not flood back into the hull. Solo was meant to be the hard mode, but the only remaining difficult thing about it is other players due to the immense amount of nerfs given to PvE elements of the game, even on larger ships. Earlier I soloed a galleon and was successful, only eventually losing the ship to the combined efforts of a storm, kraken and skeleton galleon. It's very possible to do that kind of thing if you know the mechanics.

  • Once again, someone has to go complaining about how solo players have it so hard in a game that strongly encourages teamplay, when really it was their own lack of experience that led to the problems to begin with.

  • @screamthepoetry you did not specify that it was a bug, lol just said you couldnt put it out, sorry i didnt read your founder title, but the way you complained about it being a solo player made me think you were a noob. if its about the fire being bugged this isnt a solo problem and it doesnt matter how many people are on a galleon does it?? lol and its pretty easy as a solo player to sail your ship, just sail your ship to safety and then put it out, fire burns slowly on sloops, takes ages for fire to start putting holes in your ship, like i think i said in my first reply, i think you are just over estimating it. i have dealt with fire while fighting galleons, and while fighting skelly fleets, all solo, and it was pretty easy, half the time i just let it burn i mean on a sloop fire doesnt really do anything. anyways i havent run into an infinate fire bug, i have seen fire get put out and reignite, (fire spreads) if you could record the bug that would be cool. honestly im not sure how your ship would have sunk from the fire itself, i feel like you must have taken cannon hits and were too busy repairing fire to repair the ship? either way if you arent new to the game, you are new to fire, and players adapt to things at different speeds, and thats ok, if it is a bug, the devs will get to it eventually, and if it isnt a bug, you will get to the point where you can deal with it.

  • Tip if you have a bunch of fire on your ship and some holes, leave a back one open so you can keep getting water fast to
    extinguish the flames!

  • I solo and I know better to venture out near volcanoes with loot. Try sailing into a storm and lightning hits your ship.

  • I managed to not sink after catching several lava balls from a volcano. Lost my mast since I had a gpb. Got my wheel and capstan. I even got a red light from the ferry.

Saved my ship by myself. Bailed water onto the fires until I could get a couple of patches on. Bailed some more and fixed the capstan so I could get out of range. Bailed some more and got my mast up and fixed everything else on the fly.

    Fire is fine and fun.

  • I miss the old days when I would solo a Gally (pre-brig days) all by myself. Now the game has progressed to where Solo players are discouraged and as usual Rare is catering to the casual crowd which has to play in groups cuz they can't compete solo!

  • @pithyrumble really having a hard time trying to explain this to people..my title "Fix the fire or get rid of it" is because it bugs out too often and doesnt go out no matter how much water you throw at it. most people in the comments will sing a different tune when they lose everything because of a bug

  • @burnbacon the loot came from that area i didnt venture there with the loot

  • @d4m0r3d it was most definitely a bug, i didnt know they added the water barrel in the ship but still i had water and was throwing it on the fire and it just wasnt going out at all, because of that my ship sunk and put it on the opposite side of the map so getting back would have taken forever. tried scuttling it to get closer and it never put me any closer.

  • @nabberwar ....you realize you can do everything in the game without accepting any voyages from any factions right??? and i stopped playing for a while because it got boring because all of my friends quit playing because they hated the game. so pretty much i can only play solo.

  • @screamthepoetry never had fire not go out, but if you encountered a bug like that a founder like you should know that posting this on the forums fixes nothing.

A founder like you should know thatyou have to raise a support ticket.

Also the stats show chests cashed in, merchant cages sold and skulls sold those have nothing to do with being on a voyage just basic selling the thing:

Your stats show you are a novice at best:
    185 chests sold
    87 skulls sold
    59 merchant cargo sold

But most of all 615423 metres sailed, i have been playing from release and yes i got my founder badge too, i have never tried using it as rank because it means nothing just that you where here back then.

Meanwhile i sailed over 11.7 Million metres you are not even touching that

You never started or cleared a fort of the damned.

And best thing of all, you havent even eaten all pieces of fruit available to you since they where released months ago.

Now does this all matter ? No, but you are the one trying to pull rank with your “founder” title, not me.

Now if you discovered what you believe to be a bug go here: support.seaofthieves.com

And dont try to pull rank with something meaningless like the founders title, especially if you seemingly have taken a lengthy break from the game

  • @screamthepoetry was it water from inside the ship or outside the ship? i have used water that has leaked into the ship to put fires out, but maybe if it was water from outside the ship, that water just doesnt work on fire?

  • Where is this water pump .

  • On all ships. If a ship dosent have one, just tell me, but if they all do, im gonna try to find them all.
