Here's how and why we should have all guns and the sword equipped at once

  • As most of you know, we currently only have two weapons equipped at once. This can either be a Pistol, Blunderbuss, Eye of Reach, or a Sword. You get 6 shots in each gun you pick; The sword is unlimited, of course, but you can get up to 12 shots total if you pick two guns.

Currently, the pvp meta revolves around the balancing of these guns mainly because you can only have two. Each of the three guns and the sword have their own useful place, so the balancing would be easier. You wouldn't need the two best guns in the game equipped, you have them all. You use what would be expected. Medium range use the pistol, long range use the Eye of Reach, close range use the blunderbuss or sword. The sword is extremely useful for skellies and there's never enough ammo chests on islands. It's really unfun to go back and forth to your boat for ammo so you almost need the sword. PLUS what kind of pirate wouldn't keep a sword on them at all times. It should be a default melee weapon.

If we had all three guns, it would be more obvious when a weapon is OP if its being used outside of its intended use too much. We can further balance the multiple guns by maintaining the current ammo count of 12, but spreading it to 4 shots in 3 guns. This would still include the similarly radical change of keeping the sword permanent.

Most of all, this would just make the game feel way more fun and make you feel way more like a pirate. We should be decked out more like a pirate. It would encourage different fights and more varied engagements.

There's no balance problems that can arise from this other than making the current balance more obvious. Perhaps if the sword stuns too much, everyone may still sword. Maybe the blunderbuss trumps all deck fights. In either of those cases, we would be able to see that a certain gun is broken due to overuse. Currently, we overuse weapons that work in more situations like Eye of Reach and Sword. With the nerf of double shot, there's really no reason not to implement this.

  • It's 5 shots per gun for a total of 10, not 6 and 12.

Your idea would be OP, making the sword, weapon box, and ammo crate effectively obsolete. There would be no reason to effectively reload, since you could just switch guns, and with 15 shots across all 3 guns, why would anyone want to use a sword?

Every weapon has their place and purpose. Choose wisely, and switch as often as is necessary.

The reason you only have 2 is so you have to make tradeoffs to prepare for different situations.

  • If we remove all strategy, we don't have to balance anything. Brilliant!

  • I read this as "Expand the double-gun quickshot exploit to a triple-gun quickshot exploit and let them have a sword just in case they miss".

  • @huntthehunter

3 guns and a sword. The perfect pick for each situation and no decision making on the players end. No preference or specializations. The one good thing about the current system is that I don't always have the best option available and there is the choice; go now or maybe miss my opportunity to have the setup for the situation? Want two guns or the mobility of a sword? What is the tradeoff that one chooses based on their own style and the situation.

That would be a no brainer of a mistake from my point of view, as it would remove depth and would make the meta even less interesting, which already happened since they changed the sword combat to be more quick... or as I see it run and slash instead of a dance.

  • I WOULD RATHER NOT DIE INSTANTANEOUSLY TO PC PLAYERS THANKS!!!

  • Sword should be mandatory, with the selection of secondary weapon (either pistol, blundy, or sniper). Double-gunning has been broken since release and is still broken even after it was 'fixed' in February. Anyone who uses double gunning should be berated, IMHO; whether or not you're using the macro is of no consequence.

  • After all this time I'm still for having a bouldric of guns of the player's choosing equipable plus a sword. The balance is making it take as long as it took real muskets and blunderbusses to reload.

  • @treefittymonsta Those who choose to use double-guns shouldn't be punished. Those who choose to use the double-gun EXPLOIT, however, should be ashamed. There is nothing wrong with using 2 guns - it's a personal choice that adds variety to the game.

It is the blunderbuss that can kill instantaneously... the game server treats us all equally.

This is a thread about weapon loadout leave the crossplay hate in the appropriate conversations.

The issue is animation canceling in general, sword or gun.... it just is not something I believe should be in the game. The loadout choices are fine, it is the ability to put away the item and require it; be it a gun, shovel or sword, to speed up the game flow that is just bad.

Yes... sword animation canceling your punishment makes you hit in quicker succession and is just as bad as those that do it with guns.

  • I made a similar thread with opposing thoughts.

Because i think it would balance combat better.

  • @huntthehunter am i the only one that wants two swords then?
