Private servers will finally kill the game

  • @chris-houlden

Perhaps you’re looking at it the wrong way. With only 150 players at peek time looking for crews and servers that feel increasingly empty, Rare are trying to save the game by appealing to those wanting a PvE experience. If you’re a developer - players are players, regardless of game mode.

  • @dadiodude
But the game isn't dying. Look at their weekly contests in the community session, it's usually a fairly high number for the correct guess.

  • @chris-houlden the private servers he was talking about are specific for organising events like Sea of Champions and race of legends, not just for anyone and everyone

They have always stated on multiple venues to be against any sort of gold/rep grinding servers

  • @dadiodude what peak time ? Eu peak time ? US ? Asia ?

Oh wait there is no definite peak time... also game is still holding strong around 25th ranking in the monthly player statistics for xbox live...

Stop trying to fit your narrative to something it is not

    @closinghare208

    More exposure.
If a streamer or clan can video an event like a regatta, or a skullball tournament, or make a TV show with episodes, then it's free advertising.
No one is getting gold, faction reputation, doubloons, or ancient coins for being in there.

So if it helps create unique SoT content, that can go viral, Rare wants to support it.

    aye if it does mate

  • @chris-houlden I'm fine with private servers if only if its stuff that doesn't count toward adventure achievements. If it's used for things like races and competition I think it's a neat idea.
But other than that I am against them.

  • @callmebackdraft

A simple glance at the OP would have informed you that the thread is referring to GMT.

If Rare ever decide to publish player numbers then speculation will cease.

In the absence of actual numbers we each of us draw our conclusions from what evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) that we see. Some of us believe the game is on the decline, some don’t.

I guess you have no hard evidence to support your view therefore by your own measure you are trying to promote your own “narrative”. No need for hypocrisy is there?

    Time will tell.

  • @dadiodude no i have some statistics that endorse my view and the view of alot of people... its the statistics that www.trueachievements.com publish about the playernumbers overall on XBox Live.

SoT comfortably sits at about the 25th on those statistics and with spikes upward into the top 10 with updates.

I use numbers, then there is the numbers that we get from the “guess for gold” forum posts which show the following numbers in 24 hour periods the following has been achieved:

    • 1,976,230 skeletons killed
    • 19,128 skelly ships sunk
    • 2,869 skelly forts completed
    • 1,492,368,132 gold earned
    • 86,906 chests dug up
    • 6,441 megalodons killed
    • 11 shrouded ghosts killed
    • 19,744 pirate friends made
    • 2,057,035 cannonballs fired
    • 4,618 krakens defeated
    • 32,964 ruby splashtails caught

Now you can do some fancy maths and see that the numbers aren’t as dire as some of you might think

  • private servers are like a practice ground, you can train there more effectively.

  • Good! I hope it does! I am so sick of logging on just to be killed by other players even though I have no treasure, there is an Arena mode yet most players get their reward from ruining other players experiences who are just minding their own business doing PVE, Rare either needs to add PVE servers or they are going to lose over half of their player base if they haven’t already, and yes over half are casuals that just want to have a good time but we are all leaving because of toxic players [mod edit], i don’t play anymore because i cant get half way across the ocean without getting killed by other players, screw your “its a pirate game about being pirates” eventually you wont be a pirate anymore because the game WILL shut down because of YOU, if i cant have the right to enjoy it then neither can you. Great potential but full of [mod edit].

Arena is where you go to train for killing pirates in Adventure.

Pvp in both Adventure and Arena has different flavors, one does not replace the other.

Spend some significant time in Arena and learn how to kill your griefers in Adventure.

Grow a pair, or just give up.

  • @euphorium
This game is pvpve. Pvpers aren't griefing you, and how do they know you don't have treasure? Arena isn't for pvp.

  • @blazedrake100 you do realize those numbers they put out can be pulled from thin air

  • @fast-bike94 haha i love the doom thinking side of the community...

    “The game is dying”

And then you give numbers to counter the argument

“Those numbers can be pulled out of thin air”

I have been hearing this game is dying sonce it was released now over 1 and a half year ago and guess what its still here

  • @callmebackdraft plenty of games are still here but still considered dead, there are just people that keep playing those games no matter what until the servers go offline literally the only reason a game can say they aren't dead is because if those types of people.

  • @fast-bike94 however this game is still in xbox live’s top 25 every month with spikes every update...

And guess what that is dat they cannot screw with since there is investors behind it and that would be hmmmm how would you call it, oh yeah illegal...

And id dare to venture a guess that it would be the same for the guess for gold contests but i cannot be 100% sure if that would be unlawfull

  • Are you some kind of special kid? If anything, adding private servers or invite only to play with friends will only generate more money for the devs. Giving adults and grown folks the ability to come home after working 10-12 hour days and play a great game would be beneficial to the game. I myself would come back to play and possibly spend money for pets and cosmetics if more were to come.

I stop playing after coming on to play on a weekend night with family only to be briefed by trolling kids (generally with English European accents) and it gets old. Happens to frequent to be play a great game only to have kids prevent you from progressing in the game. YES ITS A PIRATE GAME.. we all get that. Games should accommodate all ages. Adding private mode with full game functionality (commendations, gold, rep gains, etc) means I and anyone else can enjoy the game with family and large group of friends with out trolls. Guaranteed many will come back and appreciate it more if the developers add this feature.

The KID that thinks this will end is dead wrong. You can still continue to grief working contributors to society so why complain about invite only?

Add more stuff to buy and let my fiends and family play and progress while enjoying the game without trolls, then you will start seeing more come back and support the game with purchases for cosmetics. Continue to add more content and I will play this game everyday solo and/or with family!!! Great game going to waste!! Allowing people to play the game all on their own in private only adds value to the game by giving the gamers options and ways to sail the seas without the trolls!!

  • @ultmateragnarok you are young and have much to learn about the gaming industry. Private servers with progression will only help players that have a life outside of gaming. My family and friends work and like to come on and enjoy a great game. Hard to progress with kids and trolls that prevent you from time sensitive commendations. You go work 10-12 hour days and find a couple hours here to play a game that takes several hours to achieve certain things and tell me how that works for ya kiddo. Look at GTA V and how much Rockstar brings in... game is still going strong. Your character online can level progress in private play so what’s the big deal saying it will ruin progression of private play? NOTHING. Rare will make a lot more money if allowing grown mature gamers like myself to come on and play a game to progress without the disruption. I myself will come back to play and several others I know would to and would most likely spend money on the buying cosmetics if more were to continually be added! Smart move for Rare if they want to add revenue and keep this game going!!

  • @r34p3r82

Private servers with progression will not only be used by those who have "a life outside of gaming". It will cause many of the players of the game to use them to gain every possible commendation and level up everything to max, then they will get bored and leave altogether, though they might as well have before going to private servers for anyone on the main ones. This game can't be compared to GTA, it isn't anywhere close to GTA. It's a completely different genre, style, marketed audience, and has a smaller fan base. Rockstar is a far larger company than Rare, of course they bring in more money from having so much done in so little time. Rare doesn't really care too much for revenue, they are funded, and it's more of an extra goal. Nice to have, not required to keep them afloat. Also, perhaps you should stop leaving after being prevented from progressing once. I've been sunk every time I've started doing anything recently, but after the first or occasionally second time I can tell where that crew is and just avoid them. If you want to progress easily and unhindered, try the Devil's Roar for a change: The only threat is the volcanoes and normal PvE threats, and you can survive those pretty easily, you get double the reward, you get to see that cave supported by kraken bones, and the place is all but abandoned by other players. Cosmetics do very badly need to be added upon, just more sets would be great to have for it, on this we do agree.

  • And when THIS doesn't kill the game... the next thing that WILL finally finally kill the game will be.........

  • Honestly seems pointless to play half the time outside of what could be a pve server anymore. my gf prefers to just run around and enjoy the pve aspect. and when youre fishing on a dock with a scuttled ship and people still come up and kill you? it gets old.

So, posted this after the last time we were attacked. got moved from ancient isles over to the wilds. we didn't even leave port and we're sunk. 0 loot or spare resources.

got moved to another Outpost and our ship was on fire prior to even loading in. Where is this fun? I could have more fun playing or teaching COD right now. I'd probably die less.

Alliancing is useless, Everyone is attack hungry. The best way I can currently describe this game is the GTA version of open seas.

I bought this game for a loved one (waste of money now) cause it seemed like the separation with adventure mode and arena made the game a little more chill, no. It seems to have just brought all the people that failed at arena, to come to adventure.
