New Gamemode - "Conquest"

  • Alright, before I start, I just want to give credit to @DaringClarky on their post: "Clan fights" for helping my brain come up with this idea.

This gamemode will consist of two teams (maybe 3) that are composed of 2 or 3 ships. The map size would range from 3 times the size of an Arena map to the entire SoT map (if there were more ships). Opposite sides of the map from each other.

Objective: to capture islands on the map for your team until you have taken over the entire map or the time runs out and your team has the most islands.

Capturing Islands: Every island has a flag pole that is on the ground, not standing up straight. To capture the island, your team must raise the flag pole all the way up which will put your team's flag at the top, showing that you've captured the island. Raising the flagpole will be the same as raising a fallen mast on a ship. If the enemy team wants to capture your island, they must fire their cannons at the flagpole until it falls down, then raise it back up again, but this time, with their flag on it. (To give it a more pirate feel, the flagpole could just be a mast stuck into the ground, and the flag could just be a sail with a design on it.)

Outposts: Unlike other islands, outposts will have a unique feature. When you capture an outpost, the outpost will passively generate a unique currency that can be used to buy low-level defense items from the shipwright. These include:

    • Gunpowder barrels
    • Ship Obstacles: Small, medium, or large buoys that have wooden spikes on them, which will create small, medium, or large holes respectively.
    • Volcano machine: spews out small volcanic rocks that would start fires on ships.

Forts: These islands also have unique features similar to outposts. When capturing a fort, they will always have skeletons on the cannons firing at you, but when you land on the island, there will only be 2 or 3 waves of skeletons. Once you defeat the skeletons and raise your flag, the forts will not generate any unique currency, but you can purchase new items not found at outposts:

    • Skeleton ships: sloops or galleons; They will not capture any islands, but they will attack enemy ships and enemy skeleton ships.
    • skeletons on islands: I'm debating whether or not you need to transport them manually.
    • Cannon towers (with skeletons)
    • Cannon towers with cursed cannonballs (with skeletons)

Respawning: When your ships sinks, your crew will vote on what island to respawn at. If your crew cannot decide in 20 seconds, the game will just choose a random outpost. (Maybe you should only be allowed to respawn at large islands.)

Alternatively, this gamemode can go on without a time limit by making the outposts also generate gold because I'm thinking it will literally take a few hrs to get to late game.

  • Oh yeah, don't say that this will never make it into the game because I already know it never will.

I could actually see this working, but it seems more like it'd be a seperate SoT-inspired RTS game or something. Perhaps if each side had an allied skeleton lord (perhaps these lords recruited pirates to assist in their own conflict) to explain the skeletons, it could work. I don't see a volcano machine working though, I'd more expect perhaps somehow cursing an island or rock to temporarily become a volcano, or it could just erupt an existing one for a Devil's Roar-specific round. I think the mast could also be an actual galleon, but with no fore or aft masts and no bottom deck, to provide a bit of cover and ammo for those attempting to fight around and in it. Also, each team would definitely need to start at an uncapturable island or outpost, I don't think spawning in the open sea would work too well or feel very good gameplay-wise.

  • I like it.

Thank you for giving me props too. You didnt have to do that but i appreciate the gesture. You're a top dude 😎😁

I like this, It sounds like a lot of fun! A mixture of PvP and PvE combat to capture objectives. I think the only problem RARE would have is increasing the numbers of people that are allowed on one server. Might cause them too much lag.

All great ideas. The reason I did a volcano machine was so that the items the shipwright sold did not include any magic because I think magic items should be found at forts, but maybe we could say the shipwrights "cooperated with the Order of Souls" to get magic volcano curses or something.

I was reading your post thinking "Wow, clan fights! What if clans could control territories and command fleets?" so I'm just thanking you for that initial spark of inspiration :)
