Over £20 for a ship set is beyond a joke, regardless of the "choice" you can literally buy the game for that amount of money. The "value" ratio is just way off.

That announcement stream was pure cringe as well, and not in a "I'm laughing with you" way, I got a really bad e-beg vibe from it.

It was desperate.

I'm sorry but when you are barely feeding scraps to the community on normal cosmetics at such a slow rate then want to charge for anything remotely desirable whilst still doing the former for normal cosmetics, that's a bit off.

"But they gave you all this content for free" I hear people say ? Let's be honest they had to otherwise SOT would have died 6 months after release because of the anemic state the game was released in, hence "no mans sea"

It by no means excuses what is going on and is just naive.

Yeah, the ship set prices are overpriced. That dissapointed me as well. Especially because the set only includes a quite simple designed sails and you have to pay extra, if you want the much better and better fitting "premium" sails.
I'm a little bit dissapointed how Ancient coins are handled as a premium currency in context with prices and availabilty. It's not complete fair or costumer friendly for sure. "Industry standard" some people would say. Sadly...
It's good to critisize prices and their business method. But I don't expect much. They are set now and there are enough people willing to buy it at these prices.
As someone whose first game they fell in love with was Banjo-Kazooie these prices were a bad pill to swallow. Especially because I love SoT as well and play it every weekend with my friends. And it's not that I'm not willing to support the game. Emotes and pets are quite fair priced or acceptable in my opinion. But the ship set clearly isn't...

I've said this before in [REDACTED] but I don't have a problem with the basic ship price. I do however dislike the addition of the "Premium" add-ons. It really feels like a kick in the teeth, and a cynical cash grab, to charge an addition 1598 coins total for two cosmetics which are not that much different to the base set ones.

I really don't have an issue with them charging €20 for a ship set if the quality is there - just those extra add-ons. It makes it seem like the base set isn't as good without them and actually made me decide not to get the ship at all. If I have to spend €20 to get a second tier ship set, I'd rather not have it and use more unique sets I already own.

I find it hilarious how some people will condemn something you will 100% receive by exchanging the sellers desired amount, but dismiss the absurdity of gacha and loot boxing mechanics which make you waste hundreds of dollars for something you will receive by chance. I for one personally appreciate what rare is offering and their honesty when it comes to encouraging children to gamble. Thanks guys at rare and John Neate for not doing that.

I think that's a very bad habit to get into; excusing someone for not doing something as bad as they could have.

Yes, loot boxes would have been far worse. But they don't get a pass for MTX prices because of that.

The pricing is definitely more expensive than I expected...but I doubt there'll be stuff I want in the shop every month. Stuff based on Rare's old games is the main thing I'm willing to shell out cash for.

In all honesty I think the pets and emotes are fairly priced.

It's this Banjo ship cosmetic and the legendary variant that takes Micky for me.

It's essentially pretty much the sea dog ship slightly reworked from what I can see, the effort or lack thereof that rare put in to it and the price they want is just stupid.

I hope they learn, but I ain't going to hold my breath on this one as we know rare has been itching to get this in since release but knew they couldn't because of the heat they would have received.

In my opinion these ship cosmetics should cost at least 50% less of what they currently are.

My biggest concerns is that 1. This just won't be IP themed ships, the well will run dry faster than people think & 2. They will start selling clothing, accessories and weapon cosmetics , which unfortunately I see them doing.

Just mix the BK figurehead (the one that was given out for free) with the seadog liveries and you have the same setup.
Minus the ugly sails! 🤣

The ships are tiny bit too expensive thats true though if they would include the collector sails and figurehead it would have been more decent.
For the clothing they have said that they wont do that because everything that you get from the emporium shop are things you can share like the pets ships and even the emotes for interaction but they wont add something that would make only you enjoy it.

I'm sorry but I still don't trust it, just because they supposedly one time said they wouldn't, doesn't mean they won't change their mind down the line.

Day 1 of this microtransaction nonsense and there is already a massive red flag on the pricing of ship cosmetics.

This is strike 1 for me.

Equally there is a move from publishers and developers regarding microtransactions that deliberately baits outrage by pricing items high on release, with the sole intent of causing the criticism we are seeing here, only to then reduce the price shortly after to give the perception to users that "they listened" & "are the good guy" in the knowledge that people will suddenly spend en masse because players think the developer has shown "good will" towards them, when in reality it is fake and they have just been manipulated, it's one of the oldest marketing tricks out there.

I think the ship package is too steep myself but even worse you have to pay more for the luxury figurehead and sails! No thanks.

I'm glad you feel positive, I'm sceptical though, & rightfully so.

Fact is rare have made plenty of mistakes and slip ups with this game, they absolutely do not have a near perfect record, like the blind faithful here want people believe, it just isn't the case. I wouldn't say they have earned this right when all the stuff they have added should've really been in there from day 1 and built on from there.

They've had over a year to plan this in their approach, they 100% aren't making honest mistakes, they are deliberate moves at this point.

This, combined with the state of the industry today with regards to microtransactions gives me plenty of credibility In my cause for concern.

Well, to clear things up a "quid" is the equivalent of "buck" in Britain and also here in Ireland. It's basically slang for a pound/euro.
