Change cooking indicator back

  • In the newest update, a change was made to eliminate the puff of smoke indicator for when your fish/ meat is properly cooked. Being color blind, I rely upon that puff of smoke to cook fish. It is incredibly frustrating to guess and then be under cooked or wait to long and you burn the meat. Please change it back.

  • @pe0plesrepublic couldn't agree more with that sentiment.

  • Yeah this needs to be fixed.

  • There was a puff of smoke? Hmm, I never noticed... Then again, I'm not colorblind - I can see the changing shades of color.

  • @galactic-geek good for you

  • There is also the audio cue of grease popping from the pan when meat is cooked.

Never noticed the puff of smoke myself, but frequently use my spyglass to look at the food cooking.

  • Yeah it used to be pretty easy to cook stuff only watching the smoke. It would start with what I call 'mid smoke' (or medium), then the smoke would almost completely stop, followed by a large puff of smoke.

'mid smoke, no smoke, big smoke, done'
is the mnemonic phrase I used to use. but sadly, no longer...

  • Or just change how the lighting effects food in the pan.

Example being pans over fire in the wild have the orange glow on the food. Shouldn’t the pan be blocking the light from the flame? Yeah lazy development.

Maybe they could make the pan glow with a red hue when the food is done. If they have popping sounds for when it’s done why not add in a neutral visual indicator.

  • I realised the puff of smoke was gone today as well.... I'm also colour blind, but I'm fine with seeing when the fish has been cooked perfectly. What I was struggling with was then the pork and snake was cooked right. Had to give up cooking the snake and leave it to someone else, as just couldn't tell. I was struggling with the meg and kraken meat yesterday as well. Please bring back the final puff.

  • I agree. I am pro-puff.

  • @pe0plesrepublic Isn't fish easier to cook than any other meat? Fish turns from colorful (different shades of grey I guess) to pale/light grey and then dark. They all look the same once they are done.

I'm not arguing against your request, just curious.

@meanafaerie I had problems with snake meat for weeks and I'm not even color blind.^^

  • Agreed, I'm hoping this is just a bug that made it's way into the game and will be fixed hopefully with the next update.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 I would not say Lazy dev . . . They have a tremendous task to implement so many changes in a short time. They are all very talented and I know they hate when they are responsible for a bug that makes it into the game.

This is why I rarely cook in the wild - it's so much harder to tell when it's done! If they bring back the smoke, I'll definitely use that in the wild if they don't also fix those.

  • @superpac Pro-puff for life

The puff of smoke appeared instantly when the food is done cooking, it's very noticable, and then after that smoke appears, the food itself gradually changes colour, slowly...

So basically, you're not colour blind, you're just blind. xD

I'm joking of course, though i am quite amazed by the difference in observation skills between people sometimes. Whenever i play with my friends i always seem to be the one that notices more details. o_.
