Twitch Rival's SoT Stream

  • Oh my, that's a nice green color. Makes me question why I decided to be a responsible adult and show up for work today.

  • @chronodusk
    Misfits?

  • @nabberwar

Yeah that whole thing, if you know what I mean.

  • @galactic-geek

I thought so. Well it's not worth watching day 2 then.

  • Am i the only one who is asking himself what is wrong with people showing themself playing a game?
Some of the streamers are pitiful individuals craving for attention.
Horrible, is that the new way of entertainment?
Heck i know why i am not into this streamer thing.
I like people doing lets plays and make it Tutorial and all that, but streamers...
Some of them are nice for sure, but...
Sorry i cannot help, when i saw sone of them what they were doing i couldnt any other than facepalm.
I'm too old for this, sorry.

  • @bugaboo-bill
It's like watching your fave sport on the tele.

Yeah, I can go out and do the thing. Maybe even really good. But this person may have a different approach I could learn from, or even enjoy someone doing something as good as me. Its why I like watching surf/skate videos. I can't do that precisely. I can get close but not the same...

Granted from the streams Ive watched my 12 yo accidental troll would be more entertaining... but y'know
    Lol

  • I might sound a bit blunt and rude here but I don’t mean it to come across that way.

But for me I have know interest in there streams what so ever. I’ve tried watching a few and I just find them soul crushingly boring.
I personally don’t think SoT is a fun game to watch, for me you have to be in the game.

In the whole streaming side in general, I personally wish they didn’t waste dev time trying to get people interested in it. I think they should spend there time and focus on other ways to engage with the community.

And they should definitely introduce different ways to get the cosmetics they hide behind watching there streams.
The streams I have watched to get cosmetics have been a nightmare.
I had issues with the Ebon Flintlock and the compass. Took me ages to get it sorted, I didn’t even attempt to try and get this ship skin.
It wasn’t worth it for me lol

  • I liked Twich stream it was interesting and full of actions Arena. Gamers were good and it will be cool if Rare would do such Arena Tournament and let it be ranked ladder with prizes, but at this moment we have only PC players playing Arena at comfortable level. I know that Joe Neate anonced Controller opt out - it is good, but will we have such Twitch competition for Xbox Controller players or we will be ignored?

    Don't do that either :-P
No interest in watching sports and never understood the hype about teams , especially not when 95% of the team of your city or whatever comes not from that said city XD
And we Cologne people are proud partypeople wit our soccer club. They aren't good , but they love them for the sake of Cologne itself . They could be completely trash they will have a party ^^

I'm more speaking of the "show" aside some do.
I mean I didn't watch a lot, but the bearded guys look like statues while some other are busy kissing her dog or make a fashion dance show in a gamer chair of it.
Who is seriously interested watching these people?
Ok I understand , same people watching the jungle camp and other things about exhibitionistic and voyeuristic stuff. I got it and i think its silly.
But i'm to old to rate about that.
I was excited for the internet 25-30 years ago,it has turned in many ways into something i doubt in it's potential , except from 3rd class entertainment and data garbage.

Granted from the streams Ive watched my 12 yo accidental troll would be more entertaining... but y'know
    Lol

Hehe, my 13yo girl facepalm over people craving for attention :-P

    1000% agree.

Maybe these promo cosmetics get into the shop , would like that .

But if it's a market to get money from ok, do it, but don't force me to watch these people :P
Ok not force me, I'm not forced for sure.
But these cosmetics belong to my pre-order set, well...

  • Rivals was not fun to watch, why whould you put die-hard pvp-ers against "casuals" in each bracket.

They should have made brackets with pvp-ers en casual seperate so it gives more action in both brackets and is more fun to watch imo.

You already knew who whould win the brackets before they had even started.

That's assuming you knew who anybody was - I certainly didn't know about any of them...

  • I'm hoping Twitch Rivals isn't Rare's attempt to put Sea of Thieves on the competitive scene. Maybe its some kind of feeler for the market to see if it would stick. I say this, because, how they went about it was all wrong, or at the very least lazily done. Many things could have been done differently to make the game more appealing as a spectator sport. If it weren't for rewards, I doubt this events would get viewership outside of what the fans of the individual streamers bring into it.

First reason is the announcers, they simply weren't knowledgeable about the game and the tactics at play. No fault of their own, they were Twitch people, not Sea of Thieves people. If you ever watch sports or other E-Sports, the announcers know their subject, and can elaborate on the strategies at play. I had more interest watching the individual streams over the actual Official Broadcast. Infact, I just muted the Official stream in another tab, and hopped on Pace's for the first day.

Second, how they went about broadcasting it wasn't designed for spectating. If you every watch E-Sports or actual sports, they have over-viewing spectator angles, statistics, or simply a way to display otherwise unknown information. For example how many chests are in play, who has the most on ship currently, what are supplies looking at, or is an ambush being laid out.

Third reason was the amount of ads, I get it, this broadcast is supposed to make money. However, they had sections of ads that rival TV. If you look at least at other E-Sports broadcasts, they don't do ads the same way, in fact sometimes not at all.

What they did right, at least for me was just joining in on individual broadcasts. I personally enjoy hearing player coms. It gives great insight on what is being planned as well as the thought process that goes into the plays. Its a great way to not only to improve your own play, but just entertaining especially if you have characters on the teams.

  • @galactic-geek
I knew of a good bit of them, Pace's/Summit I was familiar with. AshBacon and Guilty Gambit I'm aware of (but dislike). Gassymexican I knew more of as a Youtuber back in the day, and BeardedGuysGaming, of which, our crew met on the Seas and sunk twice. Last guys are a friendly bunch and were great sports about it. I might be able to find the vod of that last one if anyone is interested.

  • @lizalaroo

A beautiful set indeed. I just need the Blunderbuss, as that's all I'm missing from the currently released Obsidian items.

Now we just need a matching hook, fishing rod, cannons, capstan, and wheel!

  • except its cursed!!!

  • @nabberwar Regarding the ads, my eyes went wide at 1 point during day 2 as my screen said, and I kid you not, "ad 1 of 14." Really!?

  • @galactic-geek 1 of 14!!! 😂😂
Does EA host twitch rivals? The greed 😂

  • @knifelife
Nah, otherwise it would be $1.99 per match.

  • @nabberwar Pffft more like a min 😂

  • Now to wait until I'm given the sails, watched the whole stream yesterday and checked just now...nothing...nor a notification... 72 hour wait here I come! Already mad I missed the hull so I'd better get these damned sails
