Harpoon Aim and Hit Detection

    What is up with this thing? I feel like its all over the place.

    I can hit you in the eyepatch from 100 yards out with the cannon.
    But i cant use this harpoon to save my life.

    I knew i needed some practice, so i put a chest on a beach and with calm water tried to snatch it up.
    There are times we saw the harpoon go straight through the chest. It felt very random. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt. Same with grabbing a player.
    I saw it go straight through me while my friend was tryin to grab me with it.

    The aim feels all over the place also. Doesnt feel like it goes where im aiming most of the time.

    Anyone got any tips or tricks with this thing? Or maybe i just need more practice?

    Lemme kno how u feel about this cursed contraption. Do u struggle with it too?

    i just focus on the center of my screen. it works most of the time since i have the habit of turning off things like crossairs in some games (i recommend it, btw)

    that is the only tip i can think of. other than that, i agree with @Galactic-Geek

    @mysticdragon297 I know I have trouble hitting barrels in the water, but that's because distance+bouncing barrels+bouncing boat=a pain in the neck.

    Use the rivets on the back of the launcher as your iron sights. If you use that, don't forget to aim a little high. The harpoon flies straight, but a little lower than it looks.

    I have no special tips for you sorry... I just aim at the center of the screen. I rarely miss when in calm water + non-moving targets but without those two criteria combined, like when trying to get barrels in open water while moving... God, it's so difficult !

    You gotta aim a good bit low but centered. And you'll hit it every time.

    I do find that most of my friends will over-shoot by aiming too high. That's kind of the problem though - you almost have to blind yourself to what you're aiming at with the barrel of the harpoon gun itself.

    i took a tiny piece of blu-tack and stuck it to my screen exactly where my pistol ironsight is.
    to harpoon a chest, i put the blu-tack on top of the chest. to 'po:n a person, i put it on their head. i never miss.
    still problematic is trying to 'po:n bouncing barrels from a bouncing ship, due to the fact i have to anticipate where the barrel will be when the harpoon fully extends. but even then i still have more success than people that dont have the blu-tack.

    i aim directly at what i want to hit , then i lower a centimeter from where i sit , and i mostly , if the boat is not moving , hit and take my target...

    i think the big problem with the harpoon is that there's no physics involved.
    Unlike the cannonball, where once it leaves the cannon, it has it's own path, trajectory, speed, etc....separate from the ship.
    This makes more sense to our brains as it matches the natural physical world.

    Even after being fired, the harpoon and line continue to wherever the center of the screen is pointing at.

    The harpoon continues to rock and roll with whatever the ship does even after it's fired....as there's no physics to the harpoon. Notice that you can't pivot the harpoon gun after you've fired and must wait until the line and harpoon are fully retracted.
    They are attached or parented to one another....continuously.
    The harpoon doesn't drop due to gravity, doesn't fade due to reduction in speed...nothing.

    I have no tips for better use as I can't fire the damn thing neither.
    Except to hit the broadside of a gally. 😜😆🤣
