Teleportation while spawn camping

No videos exist of this sort of thing huh?

Where did he say that videos of this doesn't exist. Your arguing strawman of your own creations here. That and the video is old, like around a year. Their has been many patches and ban waves since then. No one here is denying they exist, we merely say they aren't as prominent as some think they are.

Once again, you are arguing claims that were never argued to begin with.

@winter-fritz44 so, not sure if you're looking at your post but I noticed nobody asked you this yet.

Did you record what was happening and send in a support ticket to Rare to help them track these said "hackers/cheaters?"

If not, I suggest you do this from now on when you see something happening in game and you're not sure if it's just lag or not when it comes to pvping.

No I didn't record the incident. It's not like I expected to see this.

Well you're not supposed to expect it to happen to be fair lol.

I understand your frustration and if something along the same nature of cheating next time you experience it, please record the living s*** out of it and send your best clip to Rare along with a support ticket.

I myself haven't seen anything like that but will surely record and report if I do in the future. As goes for all other games too. :)

  • @winter-fritz44 I know how cheats work.

Here's a video showing you how people call cheats when no cheats exist and the reasons behind "mysterious" cheat behavior are easily worked out as several people in the comments point out.

And here's one where the recorder is being called a cheater (using mods!!), when its clear that they aren't doing anything out of the ordinary (language from the salty pirates is NSFW):

  • How the hell did this thread end up becoming an argument as to whether some videos exist and an assertion that it’s a conspiracy by some opt out sect.

I don’t know if it’s tragic or pathetic.

I don’t know if it’s tragic or pathetic.

Not sure how it ends there, but it sure starts by being quick on calling WITCHCRAFT HAX0RZ on all and any unusual unexplained phenomenon in the game (or lapse of attention), and pinning it on a specific demographic.

Maybe next time OP can post a simple "Hey guys, ever encountered XYZ when facing another player?" and the conversation will probably be more civil than starting a rant about how them darn PC hacks shenanigans are ruinin' the gaem!

I've encountered plenty of weird bugs over the year, strangely enough the first thing that comes to my mind is never to get paranoid about how this is some nefarious doing from other players, simply a hiccup in the game that probably slipped the crack.

Got hit by a cannonball while reading the map on a brig, I ended up being blasted into THE brig, through the bars. OmG WaS iT a HaXx CurSeD bAll? No, it was a bug. Had to be actually voted in, to be then voted out, otherwise I was stuck. (could have been drowned to I guess).

During a fight I had my charge visually cancelled by taking damage, only to actually charge while looking immobile with no weapon. OMG was I hacking? No, it was a visual bug.

Had occurrences a long time ago where I could still hear the voice chat of a crew I had sunk, while standing where their mermaid was. Had I planted microphones on their ship? No, it was an audio bug.

Had a fight with a crew from new-Zealand (I'm Canadian) and we all blinked all over the place because of latency. Had someone phasing multiple steps at a time up my crow's nest, only to drop a keg... in the water next to my anchored ship while he was standing in the middle of my crow's nest. Was it hacks? No it was poor latency. During the fight, the guy asked to be my friend while on the ferry of the damned, and when I did the emote my game crashed!!! Was it hack? No, probably an unfortunate coincidence, I logged back to my crew and we continued fighting through time and space, blinking around like Tracer from overwatch. We ended up drinking at the inn describing all the weird stuff we saw while laughing.

I've managed to stay "hidden" in plain sight a good long while and * gasp *, COME OUT OF NOWHERE to other crews. Was I hacking? No. Where they blind? Most definitely.

Because you can't explain something doesn't mean it's cheating or hacking.

If you truly believe you witnessed cheating, report it, no need to come stir the pot over the forums.

  • @winter-fritz44

Everyone experiences lag but there are different types of lag.

Teleporting behind you when hes in front of you? yeah could be lag. He has already moved behind you before the game on your side registered his movement. I've surprised for someone whose experience lag, has never experienced rubber banding or teleporting lag.

Its the kind where the character moves in segments either because hes lagging like crazy or you are, might actually be the server.

    Its there however.

"mirroed every move I made perfectly" - Do you know the meta behind sword hopping? If hes lagging and sword hopping you then hes going to be hard to deal with.

You could have been lagging, he could have been lagging, it could have been a server issue.

SIDE NOTE Last thing, I've noticed that players who spend more time defending themselves versus trying to figure out what actually happened tend to exaggerate the actual event.

Like @BloodyBil said, ask about the "xyz" next time and ask for help understanding what happened. Most times when players wonder if they were actual hacked against they explain "xyz" and try to figure out what actually happened and the community works with them.

You on the other hand are spending more time lashing out at us and arguing which leads me to believe that some shenanigans are afoot and what you said of the events could be highly exaggerated.

Sorry but I don't think it was hacks.

  • The fact remains that hacks and cheats DO exist and are easily implemented on a PC.
You can attempt to debunk it all as lag, and perhaps on many occasions it is.. But cheating players are out there. There is no denying that.

Nobody said they didn't exist, just that there isn't a cheater under every rock and in every bush of every island as some claim.

Even if they are easier to implement on PC, doesn't mean it's okay to discriminate players and paint them all as cheaters because you heard that somebody said that they read on a forum that someone saw a video where somebody possibly cheated.

Most people of the forum probably never even encountered a hacker once, yet people are convincing eachother from rumors of others that it suddently explain why they lost an encounter and how somebody was better than them. Had to be cheaters! Makes so much sense now!

So many salty players jump at the "cheater" myth rather than accepting the truth, that's what is sad in this. @D3ADST1CK posted good examples, here's another funny one where people start making excuses, when you can clearly see the guy playing normally.

By all means, keep crying wolf though. Might want to back your claims up, people are getting sceptical at all those mysterious players who materialise out of nowhere. You can record your last 5 minutes played, knock yourselves out and back up your claims.

Its possible this was bad lag. You can see players "teleporting" during the Battle for LA event stream, but really its probably just really bad packet loss.

No. Even with severe networking performance issues players still have to get from A to B. The hack is quite well documented and widely available for PC.

Did a little research and found that X-box players can do this too..

I have not seen it take place to my knowledge, but this is an exploit / hack that RARE needs to squash fast.

  • @SwimPlatypus7

To hack an XBox is difficult and expensive. You can’t hack the XBox directly and need additional hardware. If someone has sufficient incentive and cash they could do it. The architecture means that any hack would probably only work until any update was applied.

So, whilst it’s possible it’s never really been a thing. The other point to consider is that by and large an XBox would spend any time online in the rarefied and heavily policed world of XBox Live.

It wasn’t always the case and the original and 360 were commonly modded.

You know, it’s plain to see from the thread the reaction of PC players who appear to have taken this as some personal attack. I’m sure the OP doesn’t care one bit who is on PC and who is on console, and neither do I.

Hacking exists, hacking exists for this game and a specific hack is available to enable teleporting. Both he and I believe we’ve witnessed it being used.

It’s interesting googling this topic. Obviously tons of cheats being advertised but also a few links to old threads on this very forum. Some more or less mirror this thread but without all of the angry denial. It looks as though things were actually discussed here a year ago. Shame it’s changed.

Well said. I don't see PC players as some sort of hated other tribe that I'm at war with. I just know full well that hacking and cheating is allot more prevalent on PC than on consoles.

I own a gaming PC myself. As a rule I prefer console for multi player but there are plenty of other games where PC vastly outshines consoles. My machine runs ED on ultra settings and also allows for VR immersion. The console version of the same game doesn't even begin to compare. Castlevania on PC with a controller is downright awesome.

The crazy defensive responses make no sense. These people aren't negatively impacted by the option to not cross play because they're dedicated to the whole weird PC tribalism thing anyway. I really wouldn't care what system anyone was using to pay the same game if hacking weren't more prevalent with PC.

The original post didn't attack anyone. I literally asked if other players had experienced what I posted about. The instant reaction was an overly defensive flame war from supposedly marginalized PC players.

Yes, hacking is more prevalent on PC than console. No, PC owners are not a marginalized class of people being victimized by console owners. (I own a gaming PC myself). No, normal people really don't care what platform another player is using. Without the prevalence of hacking PC would actually be better than any console on the market.

Yes, there really are aimbots, wall hacks, teleportation hacks, invincibility hacks, unlimited ammo hacks, etc... They have been an issue for every multi-player game over the years. Believing that hacks don't exist is very misinformed.

So far on SOT I only count two encounters with likely hackers (thankfully).

I posted those videos as a counter to the claim that there aren't actually any hackers and that lag explains everything. Both videos I posted are old enough to no longer be a programming threat to your product. By now those programs and methods are outdated. I believe that I encountered a wall hack being used against me months ago. One of these videos serves as proof that such hacks do exist. The other player was downright psychic (a total scientific impossibility).

The videos were only posted as a means of countering a claim.

I most especially didn't paint all PC players as cheaters. I simply said that cheating is more common on PC. (Because it is) What is it with this weird tribal identity politicking? Anyone can buy a PC (I did). I don't feel marginalized throughout my life because of my purchase.

Yes, hacks have infected SOT just like any other multi-player game. The good news is that I have only had two encounters with cheaters on this particular game. The first could most definitely see me through hills, walls, large rocks, etc....

My original post asked if others had encountered the same unusual activity. The overly defensive responses are ridiculous. Nobody is attacking all PC owners everywhere. Nobody has ever suggested that all PC owners are cheaters. Nobody really cares about what system you choose to play games on. Since buying my gaming rig I have never been discriminated against in any walk of life at all.

Nobody is claiming that lag isn't a common issue. Nobody is suggesting that losing automatically means the other guy cheated.

  • @winter-fritz44 said in Teleportation while spawn camping:

    No one ever said this.

  • @dadiodude

I was pointing out that I have never seen this hack since I started playing at launch but its something I have been able to find some info on for both the PC and X-Box.

As for the X-Box, its a Microsoft product and as such is more than likely using a stripped down Win10 build and as a result not all that complicated to hack.

So I believe the claims of people hacking the Xbox 1 series machines.

  • @swimplatypus7

There are some good resources online if you have an interest. I can’t/won’t link due to nature but go do a little reading. You’ll learn that MS built a great deal of security into the XB1 and you simply can’t directly hack one. It’s a very complicated business trying to run unsigned code on them. Even when you succeed it will only run the unsigned code until the program or app is updated.

Can it be done - yes
Do people do it - maybe but possibly not really.

If you search you’ll probably not find a genuine XB hack for this game. There’ll be the odd usb nonsense and claims from dodgy sites but I doubt any know hack sites claim to have them.

And I’m glad. People spend enough money on gaming and some take it way too seriously to have a handful of boneheads spoil the show.

  • @dadiodude

Agreed, only a bone head would hack or exploit a game.. I despise those people.

  • Its much easier to sniff data packets. There are radar hacks for a popular shooter on XBox One that uses this technique to display player locations, drops, etc... on a second tv/monitor for example. No hardware modification required, no unsigned code is being run and its likely not detectable.

  • @d3adst1ck

It’s not a second monitor, it’s a second PC or VM you need, but you’re right, you don’t have to try insert code. Because you don’t change or add to the software you can’t get things like aimbots or teleportation etc.

The good news is that they can be detected. No idea how but people can be banned using them.

  • @dadiodude said in Teleportation while spawn camping:

I probably should have been more explicit, but yes you display it on a second monitor which is obviously run from a second PC.

I don't think it would be detectable because there is no indication that the packets are being interfered with they are only being cloned and read by another device.

As I said before. It wasn't mere lag that any SoT player should be used to by now. The event was unusual enough to be worth mentioning. Further research and posted YouTube videos that were yanked from this thread by the moderators suggests that I'm not really the first player in the whole universe to see a teleporter or a wall hack cheater. I've had video games since prior to Atari kid. Games have gotten world's better ever since but the one problem that never goes away are the cheaters. They were around in the beginning and they'll still be around ten thousand years from now.

  • The pc hacking has gotten worse! Absolute shambles.

Three instances I went into and it happened in all three, teleporting, super speed, shotgun sniper, aimbot sniper. Unsinkable ships!

It's a joke, console players don't want to play with pc, fact! Oh wheres this toggle off cross play? all I see is play with other controller players, absolute joke!
