Increase the Payment of fish, it's just not enough.

  • I found it quite hard to level up the Hunters call company. You only get 25-250 gold per fish, which is super bad in my Opinion. The megalodon fish only gave me 125 gold. It will take ages to get to level 50.

  • Whole heartedly agree

  • @janikspielt I think Missions would be amazing. Like, get 2x Blue fish and 3x yellow big fish and you get 3k gold.

  • @janikspielt would be interesting however fish catching Is random and more often than anything it’s a god dang splash tale

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r You're right.

I made a suggestion on that today in a different thread, I'll put it here just to get it out.

    THE HUNTER'S CALL QUESTS
Despite the title, the new Hunter's Call company does not seem to have any voyages. I think it would fit well for them to issue two different types of angling themed quests to keep players like me "hooked" on the fishing mechanic.

    1. To catch a certain list of different fish varieties, like the merchant animal quests. Example:
You must catch one Ruby Splashtail, one Olive Plentifin, and one Moss Islandhopper and bring them to ___ seapost by ___ date & time. This could also be done for the other meats that were added, like chicken, snake, pork, shark, and even the kraken and meg meat.
    2. A voyage where you get sent for a specific trophy fish, not minding of color, IE just a Trophy Splashtail instead of a Trophy Ruby Splashtail. This voyage should give out much more than the trophy fish would by itself.
Both of these voyages would start out by requesting more common species, like Splashtails and Plentifins, and begin asking for the more uncommon catches as you level up your reputation with The Hunter's Call.
  • This faction doesn't need missions in my opinion.
As you can progress this faction while doing virtually anything else in the game, they don't need dedicated mission.

However, After playing a bit last night, a SMALL bump to rep gains is needed for some of the more rare fish.

  • Are you cooking them before turning in? That does affect the value. Also if you're lucky enough to get a rare fish that isn't a splashtail, those are worth quite a bit more.
I do think kraken and meg meat needs a buff. I provided a lot of feedback about that on insider but apparently to no effect.

  • @heavyreaper102 This sounds more intresting. I would like to see the kraken and meg meat to be more worth. So it is worth farming these

  • @janikspielt it should take ages to reach 50. It's not a thing we have to do. Just an extra bonus for little work. Do a mission and fish between islands then turn it in. You will be there in no time. My crew and I reached lvl 10 in less than 3 hrs. The more people fishing and turning in the better.

  • @inboundbomb It is still way to cheap. Like, 25 gold for a fish?

  • @geoffman72 I find no increase in value compared to raw or cooked

  • I got 450 or so for Dory.

  • @janikspielt 25 gold for the lowest of the low fish. Like turning in a white chicken. Cook it and it is 35 gold. We turned in trophy fish for almost 500 gold. Storm ones I believe or maybe it was a wrecker trophy. Cook everything unless you don't care for the full reward.

  • I really don't agree, because these serve more of a purpose then just selling for cash and rep. These serve as consumables as well, put too much value on them, and no one will want to use them. Look at the Mega-Keg as an example it is worth more sold then it is to be used against another ship.

I mean we can agree and disagree, but this faction in my eyes isn't meant to be a gold farming faction, but a low risk faction to be an alternative to Pirate Legend. The risk should match the rewards, and fishing has very little risk to deserve more of a reward.

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r there is an increase in value in cooked food and even undercooked is worth more than raw.

  • @inboundbomb ehh I just didn’t see much an increase

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r it depends on what you turn in.

  • @inboundbomb I figure fish is moot whether it’s raw or cooked but the general snake , pigs, chicken , kraken , meg and shark cooked for sure

I don't think anyone is going to use this as an alternative to get to Pirate Legend with the low rep you get for the time spent fishing. At the very least, this needs to be adjusted.

  • @d3adst1ck Agreed. They said they want to make another way and get variaty to achieve Pirate Legend. Right now its nearly impossible.

  • Shoot I’d be happy if the lowest fish was at least 100 trophy fish should be 500 and really rare 1000. But agreed it is a low risk faction and rep is pretty balanced. More rep with more risk and vice versa

  • @d3adst1ck it really depends on how it will be adjusted. I made lvl 10 in less than 3 hrs last night. Now given the entire crew was fishing cooking and turning in helps...... also we fished for different kinds of fish as well with the correct bait used and so forth. Heck, we done a fort with one person solely fishing for battle hills the entire time to get all the different types.

  • @inboundbomb I agree with you more is better. Granted level 10 is easy to get in any faction once ya start hitting in the 30s I feel it will be a grind

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r This may be true and Rare needs to tread carefully so we don't have players burning through it all again in a week.

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r YES!

  • @d3adst1ck

Pirate Legend requires max rep in three of five factions. This is an alternative to Pirate Legend, some may go this route others won't. It still remains a valid route however. I think you underestimate how much people despise player interaction, for some reason some of the PvE crowd like ultra casual relaxation. This seems to fit right up their ally. Easy to keep hidden, doesn't require a boat, and can ultimately avoid interacting with people.

Although I'm with you on this in the sense of not going this route to Pirate Legend, had I not been a Pirate Legend. However, I think the risk should relate to the reward, and what risk is their fishing? You don't risk transportation on the seas like cargo or Gold Hoarders. You don't kill skeletons like Order of Souls. You don't compete against other players like the Arena or Skull Forts. Little risk gets you little reward.

  • @janikspielt The higher the level/promotion, the better fish you will catch. @Hynieth recommended selling mermaid gems to the hunters call reps, which will help you level up past those initial low levels much quicker, so no need to spend time obtaining and cooking meat to sell or catching low-level fish.

Obviously, a 4-man galleon dedicated solely to fishing is going to rank up much faster, but I’m personally quite alright doing it all on a sloop. I did everything else on a sloop, I’ll do this on a sloop!

  • It's gonna take ages to get to 50? As in it's not quite easy and takes a grind?

Good. It's fine the way it is.

  • @they-sank never thought to sell mermaid jems to them can u if so that’s pretty brilliant good idea man

  • @nabberwar said in Increase the Payment of fish, it's just not enough.:

There is always risk in Sea of Thieves. You can get waylaid by skeleton ships or other players. Some fish require you to fish in an active fort area. Some fish require bait to catch, and there is a risk that you'll lose it.

The way that reputation for this trading company works does not match with the other ones in terms of time spent and difficulty. Is fishing any less risky than finding a captain chest at the first island you visit and turning that in? I don't really think so, but the chest will give you a level by itself while fish will take much longer.

  • @fuzzyh1ghland3r absolutely you can. I'm close to 11 at the end of last night's session. We sold several mermaid gems. Also travelled all over the map completing the commendations. The commendations you complete will give you a decent little bump as well. Try for different varieties, travel to different areas of the map to catch the different types, kill every shark/meg/Karen/chicken/pig/snake you see and cook it up.

  • I love the hunters call faction and I hope it never ends :)

To be clear I'm not trying to say their is zero risk, but its quite minimum. Unlike a chest, I can't store it on my person. While limited in how much I can hold, a minor safety net can be applied to the more valuable pieces I have. I also don't need a boat to do fishing, and the boat can be a dead giveaway on your location. I could essentially fish anywhere and players will have no clue I'm there. Only by accident could they come up on me. I could even stash the fish in a barrel for later pick up. Difficulty is non-existent, its a little minigame with no variance on the level of fish. At most it cost time, however people complain already that their is too much free time on the seas.

At most a minor buff wouldn't mean the end of the world, I will survive had they did it. However, only a very little minor buff, nowhere near 2nd tier loot.
