I can not count the number of times I've shot at another pirate and got a hit confirmation but have it do no damage.
Hit detection for guns is really bad.
This is a combination of the hit markers being client side (meaning they are based on what you see and not what the server is recording), some cases of faulty hit detection or mismatch between rendered player model and actual hitbox location, and problems with low server fps (poor performance).
They've needed to work on these issues for a long time.

@d3adst1ck They really need to work on this for the arena
What makes you think that they aren't?
You'd think it's probably the kind of internet lag that has been present in computer gaming since the dawn of time.
Since this game has no damage modifiers, and Rare says everyone has the same hitbox, I'm guessing that hitbox is the player skeleton.
But what do I know, I'm just here because the water looks cool.
I'm not sure how Rare thinks they're going to bring back players with Arena, when the hit markets are client side and projectile ballistics are far from realistic. This is the only game where all projectile shots make no sense to me, not even cannons. For cannons, every shot is mostly luck and trail and error. Something seriously should be done. Also please increase the projectile speeds, they're WAYYYY too slow. Rare overdid themselves with sailing, but put together shooting mechanics that are far worse than the included tutorial you get from Unreal Engine.
@betsill I would say no to the health bar floating above another pirates head with their name already in the way. This idea however points out one of the flaws of this games design. Instead of a health bar a visual indicator that at first glance to some one who doesn’t play would say hey that pirate looks injured. Say they lean to the side with the arm limp or grasping at their abdomen.
As with other things in the game. Instead of a hud better and more punchy animations from your pirates hands would give your brain information to process. This allows for more information gathering on top of other indicators helping with reflex’s and muscle memory. The reload animations look amateur, there isn’t even any projectile being loaded just a hand swooshing by the muzzle. The sword draw is boring, why can’t it be drawn up onto the screen from across the body.
And yes. Hit indication sucks
@k1lroyw4sh3r3 While it would probably be optimal to have animations or something that clearly display when pirates are at a certain HP threshold. Rare has shone time and time again that they prefer to take the easy way out. It's a year after launch and we still don't have animations for running with tools, guns swapping, swords, etc. An HP bar is both very easy to implement and doesn't conflict with the games design. It's very hard to argue that we shouldn't have HP bars above players heads when we have bright gamer-tags and titles above our heads. I really don't understand why the game wasn't launched with HP bars, but I think i've probably said that about 30+ different things since this game launched.
@betsill I disagree - I think an HP bar is very much against the game's design philosophy. The names of players are there because they have to be - with so few cosmetic options, you can easily confuse who is who. The same can't be said of a player's health - it's so easy to kill someone in this game, that you don't really need to check their health, because all you need to know is when they're dead. If they're not turning into a green, ghostly pallor, then you're not done. Have trouble killing players? Then team up with your crew and outnumber them!
That said, it would be nice to have actual running animations with whatever's in your hands...

That's not always true. I've had many times where I've committed to attacking someone (or group of people) while I had low health expecting them to have low health but, then find out that gunshot didn't actually hit so I get caught with a disadvantage that the game told me didn't exist.
I agree that there shouldn't be a health bar but, that doesn't mean there couldn't be some why of displaying injury (like the broken leg limp).

The problem is that the visual indicator (the hitmarker) displays completely independently from whatever the server is recording.
That sounds like it should be an easy fix then. So, why has it not been fixed yet?
@zaannox I already stopped playing because of this reason, and this reason alone.
70% of my shots aren't registering anymore. It gets worse with every update.
They won't fix it. It has existed since day 1. Along with many other day 1 bugs. Rare is good at making this game worse as time goes on. Now Sloop players need to find a new game. And the PVP mode is directed against PVP combat and aimed toward... MORE Chest digging.... Rare is absolutely stupid. This game is for mom's and dad's to play with their children.
