Add shake hands/hug/cuddle/kiss interaction (which can't be interrupted)

  • The idea is that you can initiate shaking hands with another player, hug another player, cuddle with another player or kiss with another player.

    How it works:
You select it like you would select dancing and your view changes to third person similarly like when you dance. Your stance changes into putting your hand out, opening your arms or putting your head forward with your eyes slightly closed. When another player is then in close proximity he or she sees a prompt like how you can take a banana when one is offered. If another player accepts then you get both locked into an animation in which you shake hands, hug, cuddle or kiss for a short amount of time. If your offer for such an interaction isn't accepted your character shows slight disappointment through some funny animation and perhaps shrugs shoulders or performs an eye roll.

    Important:
When you are both locked into the interaction you both cannot move and are vulnerable until the interaction has finished.

    Reasoning:
When you play solo you can use this to express surrender of trust towards another bigger crew, or just show off that you are very brave, crazy or have nothing to loose. Because if you shake hands with the captain then the other crew members can kill you during the handshake.

When you are with a crew of two and are near a solo player you could also give each other a hug as a form of taunting. "We are so not impressed by you, that we even dare to go into this vulnerable state while you approach.", or it could be to show the other players that you don't have any violent intentions (at the moment at least).

Right now you can choose to be threatening to other players in your appearance, show it by drawing your sword. You threaten them with the unethical act of killing them. When you offer a kiss or cuddling then seduction comes into play. It can be an expression of affection and friendship like dancing or drinking grog, but it can also be used to distract someone while other crew members do something mischievous (like suddenly appearing and killing the person you're kissing with). "I am all alone on this island and just want a hug..."

It would also be nice to hug crew members as celebration when you completed a dangerous voyage.

Or imagine being on your sloop with your loved one after you just found treasure. The sun sets as you sail to the outpost. Then nothing is more romantic then kissing each other. (And nothing is more funny then when another ship or the kraken appears at precisely that moment.)

What I absolutely love about of Sea of Thieves is that there is complete freedom to be friendly or not. Whatever someone chooses is special, in the sense that it is not just always chosen because it is the most logical thing to do in the game. (I tried to be a pacifist in Halo Slayer matches for laughs. There wasn't a lot to do then besides getting killed.) This adds another option to be friendly, and because of the mechanic that both players get locked into a vulnerable situation for a short amount of time also opportunities to not be friendly.

And of course also just for laughs! grabs speaking trumpet: "Kisses for bananas".

  • While I'm all for more emotes, I'm not sure of the technical nature of putting this together (mostly because it involves two people). I think I'd rather see different dances or taunts or something before I would be hugging or kissing another pirate. I also say that knowing my fiancee is my other half on a sloop and we'd probably more likely set a keg off on each other rather than kiss while watching a sunset (still a game after all and probably since she can't actually b*****e up in real life).

Lol, thanks for your reply! It made me think of something. How it works is that once you choose 'kiss' or 'hug' or 'shake hands' or whatever (like how you choose 'dance') you will get into a pose showing the other player that you want to start the interaction. Like sticking out your hand if you want to shake hands. When the other player is then close enough he or she can accept. (Like how you accept an offered banana.) But your story about you and your fiancee blowing each other up, lol, imagine that when you want to initiate the kiss your character closes his eyes. And now imagine that then your screen actually goes black. (As soon as you move get out of the accepting pose just how you would stop a dance, the lock only happens when another player accepts the interaction.) But now with the screen black you have to wait and wonder if the other player will accept or not. Hahaha can you imagine another player waiting for a kiss with his or her eyes closed and then you lighting that keg? Haha

Your remark about the technical nature made me also wonder of how it would be if one or both players are drunk. "Come buddy, give your mate a hug", and then the other player keeps missing the prompt to accept haha. It would also be awesome if the accepting pose would change when you're drunk. Your character with open arms just barely able to stand haha

When two players are near the first player in the pose to start a hug, the hug will happen with the player who accepts first. Imagine someone standing with open arms, two players running up to him or her and one getting turned down. It would be funny if the game responded to the player who pressed too late by putting him or her in a disappointed stance haha

  • Portal Co-op had some shared emots, I'm sure rare can pull off something similar to that.

  • O and something else which could be fun perhaps, is that when you throw a bucket of bucket of water over two people kissing, cuddling or hugging it would stop the interaction. "Cut it out, we have serious work to do", haha. And maybe when you throw puke over them, they break up and puke at each other. omg haha

@urihamrayne thank you for bringing up Portal coop! So many good memories!

  • @urihamrayne True, I was trying to think of a game that had those but couldn't come up with one. But if I remember correctly it wasn't required for both people to participate. One character engaged the emote while near the other one and it just kinda happened. It's been about 6 years since I've played that one though.

  • I'd like them to add a smack emote, where I can walk up to a crew member and smack them for turning the sails against the wind for the 1 millionth time lol.

    Lol!

With this idea engaging the emote is an emote in itself. You perform an emote that you want to shake hands, which is in itself just like dancing but now you stick your hand out. You can cancel this anytime just like to can stop dancing anytyime. But while you do this another player who is near you sees a prompt like "Take banana", but instead it is "Shake hands". As soon as the other player then presses X you both go into a handshake (in which you both are locked and vulnerable) until the animation is finished. What you also can do is go out of the "I want a handshake"-emote just before the other player can accept the prompt to make them look silly haha. "Come shake my hand -- not!"

  • @muzackmann this exists in TF2 as well, this stuff is on Source 1, this thing is decades old now, can't be difficult to do the same on UE4.

  • @urihamrayne Thats the problem sometimes is that things that seem simple can be awful to code (been a long time since I've done any coding but I still hold the appreciation of how much work it takes). Sadly probably not high on the priority list either but would be great if it were possible.

The most undervalued idea ever. You are a saint.

  • Kissing, hugging, and cuddling emotes? Now you've gone too far!

  • @galactic-geek don’t worry we’ll add a slapping emote for good measure

  • @weststormborn We're pirates! The only slapping I will be doing will be with my sword! Avast!
