Argh! You conquer one of the greatest foes the sea has ever known! Treasure, titles, rewards? Nope, keep sailing.

  • So, if you decide to defeat the Kraken, you get nothing. Hmm. Earning a title like "Kraken Slayer", or finding a kraken tooth bobbing on the water to be sold, or ANYTHING, would sure spice that encounter up. And as for Megaladon, when this event is over (with its measly reward of no gold, just a figurehead), will that behemoth too result in nothing but wasted time? I'm guessing Rare just wants these encounters to be fun, but why no rewards?

  • You get an achievement for the kraken and the figurehead and title for the mega.

Although the experience is far greater than the both. I don't see why we should get any gold for either. What's wrong with just playing a game for fun?

Because of the time investment. Fun is not enough. :p

  • @lucky-13-x If you're doing it for anything else than fun or money, it's wasted time.

  • @warmedxmints I agree with you partly: the initial experience is fun, but as time goes on and we and many other pirates keep playing, who will feel their heart race and say, "Oh boy, this is my 5th megaladon/kraken this week!" Yes, it is fun. But fun is not enough for many people, when it is detached from reward or progression. Now, if a faction sent you out to hunt the kraken or megaladon...

  • You get a new instrument, a way to talk to ships at long distance, a figure head, tattoos, a title, and a shark bite scar. Pretty good if you ask me. I agree though, there should be a hunting faction or reward at the end of the hunt to keep people interested.

  • If you complete the whole quest, you get:

    A speaking horn.
    A nice drum.
A set of shark hunter tattoos.
    A set of shark scars.
Access to shark hunter flags, sails and hulls (for a price, at the shipwright shop).
A shark figurehead for the bow of your ship (free).
Two new titles, Shark Hunter and Shark Slayer (get them at the clothier shop).

    Not bad, really.

  • @genuine-heather totally agree! I'm proper happy with all the stuff we got from this quest plus it's was all the fun!

  • @genuine-heather Didn't know about tattoos and flags, but horn and drum will be available after event... My main point was future megaladon encounters, for they have said they will keep the AI threat in the game. Will it continue to be the just-as-difficult battle, with no reward? The chance of these AI threats is amazing, and I love it, but I'm just saying there is a lot to do with it- hunt them down on purpose, quests involving them, artifacts from them, etc.

  • I'm with you. It is a fun event but I feel the need for the mega to drop a tooth and the kraken an eye that you can turn into Tina or tavern keeps or one of the alliances for around 2,500 at least. That would also give people an inclination to not just sail away.

edit Also it would be cool if they gave you a megatooth shovel after slaying them 10-15 times.

  • @ii-novik Horns and drums will be available after the event, yes, but the shark themed ones will not.

  • None of the trinkets like flags scars tattoos is really all that great to keep people really grinding and consistently excited to get into the game
    More ships.
Like world of tanks - people pay$10-$60 PER TANK because they want them that bad...
    Because they are that cool
This game has an enormous amount of potential to either make a sh*t ton of money selling ships or just keeping people into it by regularly adding varying ships

  • @ii-novik For the Kraken to have teeth, it first needs a body or a head. You might get a lovely suction cup you can use to keep your grog in hand though?

  • Nothing wrong with an encounter simply being for fun. Though it would be nice to have a commendation that tracks each time you defeat these beasties.

    I like numbers.

The hull, sail, flag and the "normal" shark figurehead is buyable for everyone, you don't need to do the campaign...

But for everything else I think it's totally worthit and makes a lot of fun

Horns and drums are available after the event, BUT not those 2!! Some different ones

I guess the shark appears after the 2 weeks every now and then like the kraken

  • just keep sailing just keep sailing just keep sailing sailing sailing~

  • I don't want to rehash what's already been said above, but I would like to note that the limited time only, event specific, reward figurehead is worth at least 70k gold based on the gray shark figurehead openly available (140k if you consider it a higher level than the gray shark figurehead).

While it's not gold, I think that it's value is a considerable amount of grinding that a player can avoid doing in order to buy a figurehead...also it serves as a in game trophy and bragging rights to later players who may not have the chance to get the hungering one figurehead at all.

  • this content is barly a content. u clear it and there is nothing else to do... what the game realy needs pretty bad is real content u can do again... compare it with gta. we need missions not events!

  • @thealcani
The occasional event like the shark hunt def helps the game
But I agree that it need ongoing additions to keep the grind interesting
    More kinds of raids
More kinds of treasure/ ie more specials chests and variations of the quests to take to get them
    How about bounties
I had a great idea for a new chest check out this post: Awesome idea for new chest

  • @ii-novik I mean, they could at least add 10 different scars per monster right, like, every time you defeat them you get a new scar available, I would be thrilled like "yes! the kraken! I'm gonna get a new scar cosmetic!

  • I believe the OP is referring to what the Megalodon will become once the campaign is over. There will be no reward for killing it then. But, you have to look at it like an intense version of random skeletons on islands, you don’t get rewards for those, either. We still don’t know what the Megalodon experience will be post-campaign. We’ll have to wait and see.
