This game has a serious bully problem.

  • @cavemancronch said in This game has a serious bully problem.:

@cinnumann maybe we should all download hacks then because you know pirates,

Yeah pirates cheat. And this is pirate game. So lets all be as pirate as we can.

  • @x1-two sagte in This game has a serious bully problem.:

The cause of the bully problem is the lack of interesting content. Fix that, fix the bully problem.

Sorry but that is nonsense. People are doing that because they can. There are no rules or consequences.
    That's the point.

  • @d0wnt0wn711 "I feel a big problem is people talking about the "circle around and jump off with chests to turn them in" strategy, like why do i have to cheese the game mechanics to complete missions?"

You're not cheesing any game mechanics... You're trying to outsmart players... If you can't see the point in that, in the PvP aspect, you honestly chose the wrong game to play... It's a PvPvE game... Not just a PvE game.

"i should be able to dock my ship and go about my business at port (like a real pirate)"

Real pirates were never safe... They could make port, sure... But they always had to risk their life and their ships in the process... They are outlaws, criminals, murderers, thieves... They don't suddenly become gentlemen when they make port, bro, that's not what pirates are. xD

"and another post somewhere mentioned how you can't be a "pirate" with no authority to evade which is very true."

That's why these people, lorewise, came to the sea of thieves... Where there are no laws, no authority to evade, where pirates can do... whatever... they... want.

"Real pirates were more scavengers than fighters"

This isn't about real pirates, this game is about ROMANTICIZED pirates, the FANTASY behind pirates.

"no pirates were going around waging war against the east-india company, sorry kids but PotC is a movie."

The East-India Trading Company wasn't just one single ship though... By all means, gather like-minded individuals together and create fleets and make any bloodthirsty scallywag regret messing with your trading company, l**o, that would be awesome. xD

But seeing as you aren't doing that, the argument is moot. Also there is a kraken, so this game has more similarities with PotC than it does with any realistic pirate history you could pull out of your a**e. : /

  • @gigglesnarf unfortunately I do think that this problem is symptomatic of the greater issue this game has:

    Nothing was fully baked.

(other than the graphics and sound design)

I feel as though everyone's issues at the moment are just a result of rare never having actually locked in a proper design brief and a focussed plan.
I suppose they have rookie project management, or are just generally useless or something, but most functions - from the way you crew up and its lack of private ships, vote kicking, reporting etc, to the fact that there are four outfits - these functions are poorly implemented and poorly designed.

I think the pvp is a result of this, and will be yet another crack in the hull, that sinks this ship before she's got far from Jamestown.

I'm sad because I really loved the tech alpha, and truly thought that with some proper care and direction, we could have the ultimate multiplayer pirate sim.
Unfortunately, the game will be dominated by angry kids and aggressive douches, because those of us who were either wanting a goonies style bro-operative adventure, or a 1st person sid meier's meets monkey island, will have moved on.

  • I always run a galleon since it’s always more satisfied and I’m good at it. Well. I usually shoot any sloops that come close to my cannon range so. . umm, yeah. Don’t afk leaving your sloop on a beach.
Also you can report any toxic players that use radical slurs. They will get banned for 60days or for good.

  • @mcdoll it's pointless, the children on these forums argue in circular logic and aren't intelligent enough to realize it. This is probably a bigger contributing factor to the problem of this game failing than most people would like to admit. this community has good people that want to play the game and go on adventures with the occasional tussle but as it stands it's a deathmatch game with boats since no one cares about the loot anymore (except players who want to play the game it was meant to be played)

  • @sweltering-nick wow such thoughtful arguments, it's almost like you considered my point of view before spewing all that worthless drivel. maybe you'll get there eventually champ.

  • Darn sounds like no fun! I haven't experienced any grieving/bullying yet but I only play a few hours daily.

  • Hasn't been my experience at all......lol and if your in a sloop you shouldnt be getting caught by galleons.

  • @x1-two thats one of the most stupid things I have ever read damn

  • @gigglesnarf I really don't get why people get offended by others around videogames or internet. if you get offended that badly just mute the other crews. It sucks that in videogames some people just insult and get annoying but if you can't deal with that, you cant deal with that in many multiplayer games either. there is no way to stop toxic players and every game knows that, they are there, it sucks, deal with it.
you cry about bullying if some little kids shout at you with slurs, then mute them. move on

  • @x1-two said in This game has a serious bully problem.:

The cause of the bully problem is the lack of interesting content. Fix that, fix the bully problem.

You have more faith in the human race than anyone I know. Bullies exist in many online games, content or not.

  • @d0wnt0wn711 "wow such thoughtful arguments, it's almost like you considered my point of view before spewing all that worthless drivel. maybe you'll get there eventually champ."

This comment is wildly hypocritical, bro...

I have considered your point of view, thoroughly, in many freaking threads dude, you're not the first player to feel frustrated over the PvP... But just because you don't understand the game doesn't mean you can dismiss opposing peoples argument by calling it worthless drivel.

If you read my argument with an unbiased mindset from an objective perspective, you'd quickly understand what i'm talking about... But seeing as you didn't even try, i'm going to assume you are biased against a core aspect of the game, one of its main selling points, on a fundamental level because you personally want it removed, so you wont have to deal with it, so you can enjoy the PvE aspect of the game uninterrupted.

Thing is, you don't have the privilege to enjoy this game uninterrupted, PvP breathes life into the game, it gives meaning to the PvE aspect, the whole point of the game is risk vs reward... What would the complishment of cashing in your treasure be, if there werent bloodthirsty pirates giving you a hard time? That's the entire premise of the game, dude, if the entire premise of the game p****s you off... Don't play the game.

This isn't a PvE game where you can prance around and do whatever the hell you want, this is a pirate fantasy game... Harassment is part of the game, harassment is part of PvP in fact.

You can't have PvP without Harassment, that's not how PvP works, mate. You think i'm not considering your viewpoint? Of course i have, i find your viewpoint NAIVE, and i have explained why.

If that isn't acceptable according to your standards, you have personal issues of which neither Rare, nor the SoT community can help you with.

  • @cavemancronch said in This game has a serious bully problem.:

@pleasantcarnage no need for the racist abuse though. and dont give me well pirates did that as well, this is a game and if everything is fare game because you use the word pirates tehn maybe we should all download game hacks and cheat because you know "pirates"

and pirates were never the blood thirsty killers people thought they were, they never fought each other as it was to costly and they ran away like alot, pirate tactics were swoop in sink the stragler lagging behind and run of before the east india trading companies ships could turn round and blast them to hell.

most big pirates were legendary not because of how many ships they sunk but for how long they never got caught. (usually because they ran away)

everybody's idea of blood thirsty no good cheating pirates come from movies and tv shows

Well some pirates where very blood thirsty. There is a reason they called blackbeard the devils brother--1717 in the Caribbean, Teach's crew landed in Charleston, South Carolina, in the spring of 1718. With three other pirate sloops (small, one-masted ships), the pirates blockaded the city's harbor and attacked any ship that attempted to leave or enter

Teach's actions also contributed to his reputation as a monster. He disemboweled captives and fed their entrails to the sharks. He cut off the fingers of victims who were too slow to hand over their rings. He sliced up a prisoner's ears—and then forced him to eat them. What's more, he turned on his crew with no forewarning. He shot randomly at the pirates on his ship and marooned them when he didn't feel like sharing the bounty

  • I am considering this, but right now i rather put my money into getting the pre-release for JWE.

I just sat at port minding my own business and wham some jerk came along and started firing for no reason. Come on rare take a leap out of perfect world & cryptics book they have been doing star trek online 8 years and its a great online title it has pve in a controlled and fair way and it works theres very few trolling or griefing incidents.

  • @d0wnt0wn711 The loot is only there to give people something worth stealing.

If the game was meant to be played as a PvE RPG then why didn't they add more than one quest, any kind of storyline, developed any sort of characters, or provide some kind of vertical progression? Why does that portion of the game feel so half-baked and ultra simplistic?

Because it's not meant to be played that way.

Why did they focus on realistic water, weather, incredibly complicated ship management mechanics, from operation to supply to repair? And then make it so that you really needed a team to operate it well?

Because it's supposed to be played on the water.

The only reason you have a treasure map is to get you out there on the way from point A to point B so that you can meet someone on the water to fight/run away from.

  • This is exactly why the game need some form of the reputation system from Red Dead Redemption.

The deeds you do should effect game play. In RDR if you constantly robbed people NPC would be more hostile. If you you were more heroic NPC would help you and if you happened to do something a bit dirty they would look the other way. There were some benefits to being bad also bug the player had to decide what role to embrace.

Something like that here would help people identify the trouble makers and possibly incentify people not to be asshats for the hell of it.

  • Just the other day we had 2 people on a sloop trying to stop us win a fort, they were mocking us and claiming we dont know how to fight because we were using blunderbusses yet so were they and we managed to kill and sink them continuously untill they came back begging us to split the loot and help us. They met the same fate as before and eventually left for good.

  • I don't really think that the issue is a bullying problem and while brutally camping isn't right, I think the issue is more of a ship balancing problem. Earlier today, I was doing a voyage solo, out on the sea, when a full galleon comes and kills me and camps me until I quit. The issue is that a sloop is far less equipped than the galleon, not to mention that there is 4 times the players on the galleon. Overall the ships need to be balanced or galleons will be the only ship anyone uses in sea of thieves.

  • @cavemancronch "no need for the racist abuse though."

That goes against the terms of conduct or something, report those players and rare will deal with them.

Personally, i think pirates should be allowed to swear, it's a big part of what they are, but... Rare says it's not allowed so...

"and dont give me well pirates did that as well, this is a game and if everything is fare game because you use the word pirates tehn maybe we should all download game hacks and cheat because you know "pirates""

You seem to have a hard time separating In-Character from Out-Of-Character.

As long as you're a pirate in the game, it's fine... You can break pacts, decline parlay, pull whatever unsportsman like move you want, it's all fair game... But using hacks is an IRL crime and you could be fined for it at it breaches terms of service etc.

Learn to know the difference between real life, and game life, bro.

  • I completely agree, if people are using racial slurs and name calling thats them as human beings, absolutely nothing to do with this game.
The pvp is broken, now not completely sold on pve only servers, however making outposts safe zones and harsh punishments for verbal abuse is a must.
Also crossplay needs to go! Asblong as theres cross play there will always be cheaters.
(Not calling all pc players cheaters thats stupid)

  • @mrtimboy Ive had the same type thing happen. All trash talk until they lose a few times then turn into little kids... Can I have some too ?????

  • @gigglesnarf I only read your title, but in experience this game has created the bullypocalypse itself!

I dont know how it came to be but i know that in experience of the game it rips any sense of conscience or morals away from you.

When ever i set sail i never had ill intent most times we would venture off course to help a sloop vs galleon, i would keep my crew in check but after sailing these harsh seas i found it was a dog eat dog world.

When i pass a sloop heading toward the galleon that was shooting him down and he opens fire at my crew while the galleon makes an anchor now we are caught in a crossfire taking shots from both sides i realize i would rather be making the first shot than be taking the first shot.

Long story short Hate creates hate... an eye for an eye leaves the world blind! It is not to late to create a community that can help others.

My crew is bloodthirsty from are battles and all they see is red! I have not yet fallen into the land of no return and i know there are others out there that feel the same.

I understand SoT is pretty bland as of know and all it really has is PvP but we can prepare for the future... hopefully there is one.

So I would challenge the higher tier player to make friends instead of shipwrecks, dont fire unless fired upon first. Lets try a social experiment and see if we can make a change.

    Thanks for reading!

  • @mostlyjustokay except no one care about treasure, just about sinking ships. no one takes maps or voyages, and come on players ADMIT THAT IN THE FORUMS i have read countless posts of "well treasure is dumb and worthless so i just sink ships and kill people" and again this was sold as a game where there was dynamic encounters, that does not mean every pirate is out to kill you, i will agree that PvE is lacking but that is Rares problem. They should have forseen this and this has been a problem since before the official release. no one seems to want to challenge my point when i say that PvP players would be happier in a full on PvP setting, because all they want to do is sink ships. Why even have the PvE elements at all? so players who play passively can be chattel for players who only do Ship-to-Ship combat? there needs to be a balance somewhere, there needs to be incentive for passive solo players/groups to actually go adventuring, and conversely there needs to be more incentive for PvP players to seek other ships that like PvP, sure there's always the danger of other pirates but the shoot first shoot last shoot everything mindset will kill this game. Players will openly say things like "if i see another ship or player i will kill them again and again until they leave server cause that's the kind of pirate i am." w*f kind of community feeling does that foster? certainly not a good one.

  • @cameron-buckeye PvP is a big part of the game, and it is important. However the players who are going around sinking ships for the hell of it are an issue. Only due to how many there are.

  • I'd rather eat parrot sh** then play this joke- I mean demo.

  • As I said before, the community will ultimately decide the fate of this game. Either a fun, welcoming environment, or RUST: pirate edition.

  • I agree there is a bully problem. Everytime i play im relentlessly hunted and attacked. This game really needs a "passive option" in the crew menu, to enable to disable taking/giving damage to/from other crews. For those who just want to play the missions without harrassment.

  • I have so far been trying to play for 2 hours now. Ive tried to join a 4 man gally, and no one does anything. Everyone just sits on the ship.

Ive tried to go solo, people find and kill me (they dont sink my ship) before i finish my first captain, or find my first chest.

Due to all this PVP, all my friends have already left. When they first left, i could spend half the day out alone and have no problem. I cant even finish a mission now. Everyone just spawn kills you in your ship.

Ive gotten to the point where i dont load my ship, i just start a mission and hope i can finish it.

  • Racial slur and abusive chat? Yeah that needs to be sorted. As for the rest, I see no problem with letting people in an open world pirate sandbox play how they choose....They didn't tell you how to play did they?

  • Weekend got "bullied" 4 times from the same Crew . So what i cashed in all my stuff bevor they sunk me . I could cash in all my stuff 4 times wow they killed me congratz to them .
Also congratz for sinking my ship and getting that shipwreck chest (for 80-100gold) while i cashed in a Captains chest (for 1175)and other stuff in the other 3 runs. Bullies pff . LOL .
So my profit been 3k something and thiers killing me 4 times and 80-100 Gold . WoW those bullies must feel cool now they realy rock dont they ? They are the best . I just hope they do the same pain gain math in RL .Would help humanity alot .

  • @d0wnt0wn711 said in This game has a serious bully problem.:

@cavemancronch this, they should add godmode and no-clip as options in the menu if "there's no rules, everyone is out for themselves"

@d0wnt0wn711 they did, but that version is only available on PC.

  • ghbdtn13223

  • @gigglesnarf Ahoy! Now in my experience playing SoT actually met really nice people or people who do try to steal my stuff but don't scream racial slurs or anything like that. Now if it is truly that bad then I suggest you turn off voice chat in the options menu. Hopefully, Rare will try to decrease the amount of toxic players in this wonderful game. Just keep doing what you're doing and it may get better.I hope I've helped you out, have a nice day!
