Embarrassing and Lazy game design...

  • Why are there duplicates of the same figurehead with slight color variations that you cant really tell unless you squint? And the bad versions cost double.

I am sorry Rare but this is just lazy design at best and you should be embarrassed with yourself.

At-least put some effort into making the more expensive ones stand out. For example, on the Ceremonial Admiral Figurehead, the designers could have given Poseidon a different stance, a more menacing hair and beard combo, and a bigger crown and trident.

Edit: i wouldn't mind if you could change out the color combinations on the figureheads. But, It should be an add on after you buy the original figurehead. Go to the shipwright and change out the color scheme for another 10-20k.

But for rare to pad their lack of content with duplicates like this is just lazy.

See examples for the lazy designs below..

    Bilge Rat Figurehead - 70k

Scurvy Bilge Rat Figurehead - 140k

  • Yeah, we need way more options soon, in a game where atm this is all you can spend your hard earned gold on it is really not a lot, we need way more variation and choises!

Soon most players will have them unlocked and everyone will still mostly look the same cause there only a few options :(

I have faith they will adress this tho, hopefully!

Very Soon! I think most of the players already have 2/3 of the things they wanted to have. They need to implement new stuff b4 the players start to leave

Yep exacly, i played all alpha's and the beta, and there isnt really any more clothing options then what was there, not many anyway, i expected waay more at least.

Instead of adding more clothing options they increased the prices by a crazy amount that it would just take longer to get them all :S i found that kinda lame, i would not mind the crazy prices if there was more options i gues but now it felt kinda iffy.

  • What about the fact that you can carry 10 cannon balls but only 5 bananas...????, lack of common sense is what comes to mind here, whoever made this decision is not very bright to say the least or didn't think it through, infact i dare to say they didn't think at all.

Then there's the voyages for 2 man, it's pretty much identical to one man ships where you only get one captain per voyage, this alone makes it very unrewarding to sail in 2 man ships since all rewards are matched for solo ships. They kinda copied and pasted ship design along with all the rest from solo ships to two man.

  • @cma1978 no no m8 this was a decision of Game Design. How many bananas do you need in a normal fight? - yea about 5. How many Cannonballs do you need in a normal fight? - yea about 10. This is not about being realistic, its about giving players the ability to play and have fun with enough amount of items.

  • @klon54 Oh, i'm sure this was a clever design to limit players from using more than 5 bananas(right:P). But when you break that down it still makes no sense, it takes 3 bananas to give you full health so why not 3 instead of 5 ? 3 is enough to fill your health once and should be enough otherwise you're spamming bananas anyway at strongholds for example, but we can also not escape the fact that 10 cannon balls will always weight more than 10 bananas.

  • the whole game stinks of lazy.
RARE that we all know from yester'year, is in the past.

5 Bananas gives a clever person the ability to fight and heal for a set amount of time before they need to retreat and look for more bananas. If you had more banana storage on your player, it could turn fort fights into never ending battles with clever kiters. It also gives a person the ability to stay underwater for a long amount of time, which is a massive stealth advantage.

I personally think 5 is a good number.

Ok, now I am getting annoyed all over again. Do you go through cannon balls or Bananas faster? Hmm? Did it ever occur to you that the amount you can carry has more to do with how those items are used?

2 Man sloop trips can be very profitable and take less time to complete too.

  • @realbadhor5e Having options is not lazy. I would prefer some of the more expensive ones or the base ones just because of color.

Is it lazy for Dodge or Kia or (insert manufacturer here) to make more than one color car? Is it lazy for Overwatch to have 8 skin variations for the base outfit in the game?

    No. It's not.

Would I like more choices? Yes. Will there be more? Of course.

If you have ever played an MMO before then you know there is more around the corner.

I'm sure there are more pressing concerns for Rare at this moment, but those concerns don't invalidate your opinion. Just keep in mind an opinion doesn't make someone lazy or stupid or what have you. However, calling game devs lazy is a laughable offense. Have you worked in the industry? It's quite grueling.

Maybe try putting a positive spin on a suggestion rather than use reductive negative thoughts.

  • for me looks like nobody seriously thinked how this game would be playd on a long term. Rare has ( imo) to come up with some decent changes or the adding of a ingame store will be there last action for there so called ,beloved game. ( that said, im a bit angry about it too)

still i got hope. its possible to fix this lack of motivation. and adding more cosmetic content is just a part of this solution. but a necessary one. and maybe then we woundt need to discuss the ( also for me crazzy ) price difference in the same item with two color cheme.

  • @october yeah it's pretty lazy when you can't tell the difference between the regular bilge rat and the scurvy bilge rate figurehead and one costs double.

I am not against different color choices. It doesn't take much to change the color once the basic 3d model is finished. So for them to pad their lack of content with a different shades of color is laughable. Then, have them put that model in a different tier and higher price is just funny.

Also please stop using analogies, they are a bad way to get your point across. Do it with valid points and arugments. Basic color changes on a car doesn't double the price...

Rare needs to be called out on this so they don't repeat it for their next content update. I gave examples on how to do it a better way as well.

If color variety is the goal, why not have one base figurehead/hull/sail model and the option to change the color scheme at the shipwright for an additional 10k-70k gold?
