Remove Time-Limited Events/ Items, reduce FOMO practices

  • Other games do it and it gets a very positive reaction: rather than making items and events limited time exclusives, either add things back into the game permanently or into a rotation so they come back around semi-frequently. A rotation of time-limited events would not only reduce Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) which is not a great tool to get players engaged in your game, but it would probably encourage players to stick around knowing events they are looking forward to are forthcoming. "Sunset" and "Legacy" items also may make newer players feel as though they've already missed out on a bunch of content, and ultimately those cosmetics Rare worked so to create would get more chances to shine (not to mention it would add even more variety to the cosmetics we get to see in-game)

  • and after 3 months, those once popular events become...boring and "tedious" to some who want newer stuff to be added.

  • The amount of content and cosmetics in the vault that most players wont experience that took months of dev time to make is a really gross practice. But of course when other games try to move away from FOMO or offer better solutions none of them seem to apply to SoT.

  • Time Limited Events can be fun and definitely have a place in the schedule. Increased engagement and hype, more encounters.
Any rewards need to be carefully balanced to ensure it is achievable by crews of all sizes - which to the devs credit they have done with the Molten Sands Event.

  • I aggree, something like a different compedative voyage/event for one week, every second week. Four to five of these would keep it freash and people coming back. Case in point "Skull of Siren Song". Some of the best PVP I ever had, now, missing in action b/c 99 times out of 100, when you vote on it, no one is doing it. Infact, if they had done that with Arena, maybe the player base would have hung around rather than taking it for granted. Not that Arena should come back, that ship has sunk.

    General mechanic

Step 1: A map appears on the mast like it does for the current Skull of Siren Song. You vote on it, and pirate lord appears does this dialogue.

"Hello there, I have need of your services. There is <insert event name> on the horizon. I am still collecting information on the location. Once I have my emmsiary contact you to ask for your aid, till then keep a watchful eye on your mast for a red map."

Once enough crews sign up, the map turns red.

Step 2: Map turns red, you vote on it again and the intro to the current event is done, and you dive to the server where it is happening.

If there is already enough players, then it skips straight to step 2.

    Events in the cycle.

Skull of Siren Song: same as now but diver only.

Sull of the banished. This one starts by a Reaper diving to start the quest on a server with 2-3 other ships. Once they have completed the first pillar the game will start dropping new ships into the server between them and reapers.

Last ship standing: dive like in HG, ships held underwater until the required number is reached.

Drunken Sailor: Takes each ship to a large island in the sea of the dammend. Each ship is anchored in its own side, the ship can not be moved as the anchor is stuck. There are small forts overlooking each ship with cannons aimed at one ship each. These forts are locked and guarded by an NPC. To gain access you have to digg up and return a chest of gorg to a NPC to bribe them to open that fort. Once they do, access to those cannons are open to all crews, a new chest of Grog spawns. Players have to balance defending their fort, if open, opening another fort, or usings an opened fort to secure the sink. Reward is your ship getting released to play again.

  • Curious if the rotation includes complete sets or single items. Probably the latter so you can hop in the game and grind in preparation.

I've only done the fortress on insider. Anything interesting besides gold?

  • @shenlongkazama

Its the same event as Insider - worth doing if you want the ship crests in Retail.

I quite enjoy it with throwing knife and full storage crate.
My meta is a raid voyage to sea fort and you can get all the supps from there with a purchased storage crate.
