Add a Visible Anchor and Chain Mechanism to Ships

  • A thing that can make Sea of Thieves more inclusive, funny and detailed is add an anchor on the ships, because now if you raise up the capstain you are raising the anchor but in the ships there isn’t the anchor, and this is a big error because the anchor is one one the most important things of a ship, i know that it can be a very big weight for the ping or fps but if you can make a more detailed anchor can be a very big update, it can make sea of thieves more realistic and if you think da it doesn’t change the gameplay, you maybe have right but a lot of player if they see an anchor that raise up from the see can say “wow this is the most realistic game ever” and it will be very cool,
Thanks if you have read this suggestion

  • it can make sea of thieves more realistic

    Why make it realistic? Benefits?

  • There isn't really an ocean floor for it to anchor onto, plus the animations and timings wouldn't make sense when you are in shallow areas vs deeper ones. If you are near a beach, the anchor would realistically take less time to raise than if you were in the middle of the ocean. Looking at ocean depth maps, it also wouldn't be realistic to just be able to anchor anywhere. The lowest you can swim in SoT is about 100 meters under the surface, real life ocean depths are generally between 2 and 6 km for the most part, and when you use an anchor you actually need far more than the depth you are trying to anchor in, because you don't actually want an anchor to have the line straight up and down, otherwise it might pull your ship under the water or your anchor out of the ground. No one is realistically carrying 4000-16000 meters of rope/chain strong enough to hold the ship. Ocean going ships also just straight up don't anchor in deep waters because of this.

In summary, if you want anchor realism in SoT, you could only anchor near islands. It would ruin the anchor as we know it

Because in a pirate game with pirate ship you can’t see an achor, is a unrealistic error, and the benefit is a ve et cool mechanic of the ship

  • @potatosord
I know that in the real life you can’t anchor everywhere, but if in SoT we make a medium lenght of the chain? And if you see the anchor underwater, that doesn’t touch the floor, i know that is unrealistic but is cool to, how its cool see the anchor that raise up from the depht? It is too cool for me, think about the last scene of pirate the carribean in the 5ª film, when the black pearl raise the anchor from the depths, this scene is so cool, and if you think that an anchor that dorsn’t touch the floor is unrealistic, is more unrealistic a ship without a visible anchor like now.
Thanks you veru much for have reply to my suggestion!

  • @capt-revenge561 Pirate stuff is one of my big special interests. You talk about realism being something people would want to see, but then say you're ok with it being unrealistic because there's no ocean floor and we realistically shouldn't be able to anchor anywhere but near islands. Again, it doesn't really make gameplay sense, because if they do that it also has to change how long it takes to anchor at different places. Near islands your anchor would either have to be raised unrealistically slow, or you would always have advantage in anchoring next to islands/anchorballing people would have no effect in deep water and next to no effect in shallow water because they could raise anchor super fast.

  • If they havn't added before, it just means maybe they "cant" due to engine complaints or rather...visually it serves just a waste of animation.

  • More inclusive to who? Anchor enthusiasts? With any realism a balance has to be drawn, as mentioned by others generally underwater detail is lacking, and its certainly not worth adding at expense of server performance. I'm not seeing enough of any benefit to actually warrant this personally.

  • @capt-revenge561
In another game I used to play, we managed to glitch under the map, and discovered that they saved game space by not adding realistic details under vehicles, since players wouldn't be seeing it anyway and adding pointless details wouldn't help.
Perhaps the same is true for Sea of Thieves?
