Why Twitch drops and not IN GAME drops?

    Hi all,

    SO I have to ask, why are so many cosmetics & ship sets only accessible via Twitch drops?
    It seems veteran pirates have only a few things to unlock via playing the game, without visiting the emporium.

    The Mutinous Fist ship items, for example, was given to players when they logged in during a certain time. Others are given when you complete certain tasks during a time period. I would like to see Rare do this more often.
    So it feels odd to me, that Rare releases rewards via Twitch for NOT PLAYING THE GAME.

    Can someone explain here, why Rare chooses not to release that same content in the game, for people who play the game, who don't follow Twitch?

    @smuntface I hate it too but the simplest answer is advertising. If they give people incentive to watch it, that boosts their numbers and makes them look good to those who don't yet sail the Seas.

    My fomo instinct is getting a little too acclimated for this to keep working 😕

    (Goes and bowls obsessively on switch sports to get all the cosmetics)

    @smuntface i dont really mind twitch drops for certain items.

    And personally i feel like sets like Mutinous Fist ship isnt that great of an example, these are ship sets that are made in conjunction with and to honor other games

    • Mutinous Fist ship (bleeding edge)
    • omen ship (gears of war)
    • Blighted ship (state of decay)
    • mayhem ship (borderlands)
    • spartan ship (halo)

    And a couple more, these make sense to me to have other requirements outside of the game.

    however i do feel that Rare seems to forget the regular shops every so often in favour of emporium and the like

    Honestly for a game about nothing, but cosmetics it lacks a ton of cosmetics. Even New World has better customization for houses than they gave us for ships, and they've had how long to implement it?

    No I'm comparing the customization of the house in New World and the Ships in Sea Of Thieves. Yes New World is a dumpster fire, but so was Sea Of Thieves on release. They've had years to give us something to do with cosmetics in a game solely about cosmetics, and it's just kinda lame.

    Some people can’t play during certain times but they can watch/not watch a streamer.

    Yeah. It's kind of pain - especially when you have to choose between playing the game yourself or watching someone else to get the cosmetic for poor internet. I wish Rare could switch to the model that Twitch drops are added to the regular game after a month or two. The amount of incomplete sets I have "thanks" to their daily item distribution... sigh.

    Honestly, I don't mind this but would it hurt them if they added these items into the game after a year has passed? Have you seen the frozen horizon pirate clothing set? ... I was only able to unlock parts of it and it hurts... especially during the holidays :(

    I share your pain - it's the only Twitch drop set I didn't complete, and only because how it was dropped was communicated poorly (I missed the belt and gloves); otherwise, I could have had it!

    I'm still genuinely shocked we haven't seen it reappear the following year's winter season...

    Imo they should be both. Either you watch on twitch for an hour or you complete different daily challenges in game.

    I would be on board with this - give multiple ways to earn 1 thing. Why not?

    I totally agree here. If you missed a non-exclusive (example: you had to buy a board game), I don't see why it should be locked away forever. Please Rare
