Having Fun and Progression System

  • Hi, im not sure how to properly start a thread so i guess i will just start typing my ideas and what i wish would change in game.

    There are few main flaws that were extremely annoying when me and my friends started playing Sea of Thieves:

    1.The time it takes to get from point A to point B (at the start its not a problem but the longer u play the more u just swim back and forth). Like i said at the start its fine, ur going on adventure u travel for 10mins and your friends are beeing silly, playing shanties pushing each other of ship (all that good stuff), but it quickly just becomes 1 preson drives others go AFK, watch YT or go make Food. Also things u do are very repetitive (except story) and content added everymonth makes me enternained for like 2/4h the thought of swiming for 10 mins haveing fun for 20 then packing stuff on ship for another 10, swiming back for 10 and giving back loot for 30 makes me feel like not starting the game in the beggining
    2. Second thing is how slow ur selling your loot even with friends. It makes me not even want to have lots of loot just to sell it for gold that doesnt even matter.(Second one is short idk what else to add)
    3.Gold doesnt matter. You cant even buy cannon balls, planks or food. I guess some people like to collect every single skin in the game, but i dont think it should be the main reason to play the game (other than just having fun)
    4.If the main "thing" of the game is to just have fun and adventures i dont think grind is the way to go(also u grind for gold that gives u nothing which makes even less sense to even play the game).

    Now to the things that i would add/change

    1. Adding cards and dice in taverns and on ships, (or overall adding minigames like armwrestling) it would also be fun if u could gamble your gold with friends and maybe adding daily limit like 500gold (some people might say that its game for kids and therefore there shouldnt be gambling in it, i dont agree with that i just doubt the poeople that are accually addicted started at age of 8 playing poker on miniclip, but ok it doesnt even have to be for gold just for fun )
      2.Probably the most unrealistic thing to ask for, but also something that most people wish for, which is some sort fo progression system. My idea of doing so would be adding another playmode, so Sandbox mode, PvP mode and Progression/Rpg mode where u could gain new weapons upgrade your ship. I honestly dont even think that would be such a big deal if thay added progresion system and lvling to the sandbox mode cause u rarly even encounter another player and even more a hostile player

    My conclusions are that this game has a lot of potencial and could be extreamly fun even without the progression system and after reading few posts i also think that the community also has tons and tons of fun ideas.I havent played this game for like a year and after playing it a week ago i didnt see any major difference except 1 new event.

  • Idk if devs just dont have ideas for this game or have small team(or maybe im jsut dumb and they acually doing a lot what im not noticing) but the last big thing they added was teh pvp mode other than that its just bux fixes and boring events which last only for 1 month then the new one is added and the game is how it was just with 1 more and also 1 less thing to do. At the top of my head i can name many fun activities that woudnt be "game breaking" and make is way more anyoable 1:Pig racing island(cause why not) u hop on a boar race with your friend win price once a day, 2: Puzzle island or Jump Puzzle island where u discover some cool new type of guest or just have a simple chest. Theres just so many possibilities and if ur scared something will break teh game just make it an event for like a moth then delete it and watch if people enjoyed it

  • Customable inside of a ship for example: Fishing or killing a monster achivments which gives u heads or tentacles of the creature and u can have a trphy of them somwhere on the ship. So many things yet nothing is added, its like minecraft where the game had a lot of potencial and they started adding stuff after 10 years(i know its cause it was bought but still)

  • Adding water trading paths where your ship swims faster so u dont have to waste 30 mins just to get from point A to point B and they might change after time

  • Currents would be neat, unfortunately like the wind, you would always be going the opposite way.

  • True. Idk even ship desing itself is bad in my opinion, its thing that u spend 50% of the time while playing the game yet there is not much to do on it. The pets is also wasted oportunity, they could add some quest or achivments and if u did them u could have pets and add some quest over time and events where u unlock different skins(but also leave the pet skins that u can buy), most of the skins that look dope are not collectable but buyable(the skeleton santa was amazing). The battlepass they added is a big step i think (it adds the feeling of progression, gives playes lots of cool new stuff and gives devs heathy way to earn money). The spawning islands could be improved theres, literally no point stayin on them yet before u can sail and have fun u need to gather resources from whole island(u dont rly have to but they drain quickly when u fight)

  • All of your suggestions are nonsensical.

    The time you spend sailing to distant destinations, and the time you spend loading and unloading treasure, are both intended. If you have crewmates going AFK, you're not getting from place to place efficiently; you're no longer adjusting sails so you're always at maximum possible speed. Loading and unloading treasure is also intended to be a time you're vulnerable.

    Additionally, vertical progression is something the Dev team has REPEATEDLY said they wanted to avoid at all costs. The point of the game is for everyone to be on the same playing field from the moment they start; changing this goes against the spirit of the game.

  • @MatrialMan I agree a lot with @Blam320 . Adding something like vertical progression wold be detrimental to the game. It would give us pirate legends and other high level and experience players an unfair advantage in combat. Its meant to be fair for everyone out of the gate. Also did you not hear about the EA lawsuit for their use of loot crates in a game marketed for younger audiences. There is a reason we don't have a system like that, it's because its illegal for a game marketed to children to have any sort of addictive gambling system. The game already has its progression system. To get to pirate legend. Yes, I do agree that Pirate Legend should have more added for us that grinded to that level. It's a game that you have to work for what you want.

  • @psyche-titan Yea, while writing this i wasnt aware of the battle pass system they added, which adds nice feel of progression, also the gambling thing yea havent thought that through. Still think it would be nice if they added some card game like Macao. I also still stand by that u should be albe to have fun as soon as u hop in the game and not be spawned on the boring island then hoping on ship where theres bearly anything to do on it just to drive somewhere where fun is allowed.
