First of all, let me say that I absolutely LOVE this new update. The Devils Roar area and islands are amazing! I am having a blast sailing around from island to island dodging lava rocks, geysers, etc.. And I know others are too (Despite what the forums may say.)
Now then, before I get into the bulk of this post, let me just say, everyone has their own opinion about things, myself included and that’s perfectly fine. Opinions are not what this post is about, all though all of this post can be considered my opinion (since it was wrote by me) and again that’s okay. Anyways, feel free to criticize anything I say in this post, after all, we all have our own opinions on things, and this is meant to be a discussion.
Now then, as the title says, I have a message for people complaining about the Forsaken Shores update. When I say that, I don’t mean the people who are making helpful, reasonable suggestions about things such as balancing. This post is directed at everyone who is needlessly raging over this update.
I am just going to be blunt, the update isn’t terrible, you are. Now then, let me explain, the update is 100% doable, you can argue with me all you want about that, but the fact is that a lot players, myself included are able to traverse the Devil’s Roar area, with relative ease. The reason the update is so hard for you isn’t something on Rare’s end, they didn’t make it extremely overpowered like some of you want to believe, your skills (or lack of) as a pirate are the reason you are having such a hard time in the Devils Roar. Hence the statement; the update isn’t terrible, you are. (Please Note: When I say terrible I don’t mean at the game, I mean at traversing the Devil’s Roar area.) This is 100% okay, it’s alright to have a hard time sailing the Devil’s Roar area, after all it’s only day two. The problem is this; you want Rare to completely change the game because of your lack of skills. People poured their hearts and souls into this update and worked countless hours to make a new enjoyable area, and you want them to change it all because of your lack of skill... It’s sad, and I feel sorry for the people who worked h*****n this update. Just because an update is too hard for you doesn’t give you the right to bash the company who worked so hard to make it. The Devil’s Roar is meant to be a hard area, it isn’t meant to be EASY, you are meant to sink, die, and loose all of your progress. That’s literally the update. Stop complaining and start learning, instead of expected everything to fall onto your skill level, learn how to deal with the area. Learn the tricks and tactics of the area. It may take a while, and it may be frustrating, but if you don’t try, then nothing will change. You will continue to sink and rage over and over. I’ll say it again, stop raging about how the update is terrible, and start learning how to sail in the Devil’s Roar, because in the end, the update isn’t terrible, you are.
Now that I have said what I wanted to say, I have one more thing I want to talk about. The following is a small guide for players having issues in the Devil’s Roar area.
Volcanoes
If you are having problems with Volcanoes sinking your ship, there’s here some advice.
Ship Parking:
There are a lot of different ways you can park your ship in Devil’s Roar, all of them have their advantages so I’ll just list the few I personally know about. The first method I want to talk about is parking your ship at a Devil’s Roar island. Personally this is the method I use because I rarely use rowboats. Now then, for this method you simply park your ship at the island and go about your business. If you do practice this method, you should keep one person on ship at all times, have the anchor raised and the sails raised. This allows you to move away quickly if you need to, and the one person on ship allows you to avoid situations where everyone is dead at the same time. This method is pretty straight forward.
The next method I am going to talk about is the rowboat method, this one is also pretty simple. Sail your ship out of the volcanoes’ range, then take a rowboat to the island. Personally I don’t like this method for the following reasons: your ship is vulnerable to attack while it is sitting out at sea, if someone dies they have to fire out of a cannon and swim over to the island, if your rowboat breaks then you have to sail your ship to the island anyways. You should raise sails and anchor for this method (to allow for quick get aways) and you can keep someone on ship like the last method, that way they can sail the ship away from any other attacking ships, patch holes, etc.. The way you park your ship directly plays into the affect of this next part of Volacnoes.
Eruptions:
I have noticed that a LOT of people are having trouble with eruptions, so here are some times. If you are at an island when an eruption starts, do NOT sail your ship away unless you have virtually no supplies. A lot of people’s first instinct is to try and get away from the volcano but this hurts more then it helps. When you are moving you have to worry about the direction you are going and other factors. You are also MORE likely to be hit by debris (at least from what I have seen). Your safest bet is to stay where you are, and focus all of your attention on patching and bucketing. As long as you have adequate supplies, you should be able to stay afloat without any problems. While the volcano is erupting you and your crew (If you have one) should stay BELOW deck at all times and have bananas on you. The damage you take from falling rocks while in the ship is considerably less than the damage you take when you are hit on the outside of the ship. When you are hit, immediately eat bananas, this may seem like a waste, but if you don’t you face the possibility of being killed by the next blast. You should also try to stand near the middle of the ship, and spread your crew out (if you have one) to avoid being killed all at once. If your ship is away from the island, you don’t really have to worry about most of these things, but you should watch out for neighboring volcanoes (they can hit your ship if you are close enough). These are pretty much all of the tips I have for dealing with volcanoes.
(PLEASE NOTE: Volcanoes give off smoke and make a sound when they are about to erupt, if you see this occurring then you should head back to your ship and be prepared.)
Geysers:
Geysers, while I think they are fun, some people are having some trouble with them from what I can tell, so here are some tips to deal with them.
Spotting a Geyser:
Geysers are pretty easy to spot, the spot where one will go off has slightly raised dirt, steam coming off of it, and magma in the dirt.
Avoiding a Geyser:
There are multiple ways to do this, if you want to avoid Geysers entirely, stand on a rock or something else where they can’t form and wait them out. If you want to avoid being shot in the air by one, keep moving and look at the ground.
There are times when Geysers are extremely active, during these times be especially careful.
If you are on a volcanic island, I recommend taking a surplus of bananas just in case you are shot into the sky by a geyser. Geysers can be also used to kill skeletons for those of you who don’t know. If a skeleton walks over a Geyser, and said Geyser goes off, the skeleton will die. These are pretty much all of the times I have for Geysers.
Earthquakes:
Earthquakes are the last, and least deadly threat volcanic islands pose. If you are having trouble with earthquakes simply wait for said quake to stop, it’s that simple. If your ship starts to then drop anchor, and when the earthquake stops, pull it back up again.
These are pretty much all of the tips and tricks I have found for the Devil’s Roar area so far. I hope they can help you in someway.
Anyways, this is the end of my post. Like I said in the beginning this is all my opinion because it was written by me. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask me/talk to me about them on this thread. Or feel free to criticize everything I have said here, because I am open to criticism and feedback, this is a discussion after all.
