I would love to see an actual "Fake Pirate Legend" title in SoT

    I'm serious.
    After a few days reading "True Pirate Legends" on this forum proclaim in salt laden posts that no matter what Rare has said, the fact that they didn't wait for any other way to progress to exist makes any other means of progression somehow less valid than how they did it...

    I think they are right that a "fake pirate legend" title should exist. It should only be able to be purchased via doubloons along with a fake legends coat and hat in purple with a big gold F on them for fake. Say 5 doubloons each.

    That way when one of these oh so amazing "true legends" who "actually earned" the title by meeting the singular requirement that everyone who has it has met is felled by me in combat they know that they've lost to a "fake legend" who was "lazy and entitled".

    That would be great.

    And it's not like they gained 20 levels with it

    Don't get me wrong this wouldn't change pirate legend at all. The real title would still be earned exactly as it is now.

    This would just be an additional "gag title" for those who think the gatekeeping from some of the "legends" on this forum is ridiculous.

    Actually... I like your idea! I would love to see a "Fake Pirate Legend" coat made of old rugs with some "Quite but not almost purple" paint on it. Can be funny!

    @crazyjuan I have mixed emotions on this topic.
    In one hand I can feel for those who have honestly reached pirate legend status the default way.
    In the other hand just buying the last one or two rep points isn't such a bad thing as you still had to climb your way within reach then earn those doubloons.

    I think the only difference is that the option to buy rep levels wasn't introduced at game launch.

    I don't know if Rare has statistics on those who fort / server hopped or cheesed their way through faction quests so that isn't much different than earning the doubloons to buy your progress.

    I personally will continue to progress in the traditional way but even that is slightly hampered by doing Athena voyages as my regular partner is a pirate legend now and it's nice to sail with someone of the same mindset, someone who has become a true friend.

    So how would the standard of a "true pirate legend" be set?

    • Someone who has never been in a crew that has cashed in it's stronghold loot?
    • Someone who has never played a part in an Athena voyage?
    • Someone who has never canceled a quest simply because it didn't list enough gold animals or it only had one chest?
    • Someone who has never bought the remaining level(s)? It's not much different than being rewarded with rep after an event.

    Really except for the last option all of the first three were available with the default game launched several months ago. Therefore they may be overlooked as being shortcuts to legendary status.
    However to exclude one shortcut to pirate legend you would need to exclude all four.
    That being the case we're probably only left with the first person to become "pirate legend" being that streamer who had everyone else do the work for him. :/

    @admiral-rrrsole you misunderstand me.

    No change to Pirate Legend at all. Stays exactly the same. There is no "true pirate legend" only PL.

    "Fake PL" would only exist as a gag. An actually purchaseable (cheap) PL knock off. A play on the insane gatekeeping some PLs on this forum exhibit.

    Yep, I'd definitely rock this. There's all kind of fun they could have with mock titles. Accident prone for falling deaths, sharkbait for a number of deaths by shark, ect.

    @tre-oni There isn't anyone angry here. People are joking around in this thread and it is quite light hearted. The forum doesn't need multiple posts about the update today, but on the front page alone, it has 3. There's no harm in multiples and if the mods wish, they can just merge em anyways.

    @CrazyJuan I think you have a point here. I'd love that title and coat and everything. I'd buy it for I'm one of those people who has to have EVERYTHING!

    But can we make it not look like a purple tracksuit with gold trimming like some kind of person who is the boss of several ladies of the night?

    @Crimsonraziel I know right? I've been running around with my Sailor title hoping noone would notice my legend status for a loooong time. Fake legend would be so cool for me :-)

    I feel some pirate legends who feel they have the exclusive right to mandate how people earn a title is toxic behaviour. This is satire of that fact.

    Hell I'd sport it. In my mind, nobody is legendary outside of us forum regulars. The rest are all fake legends. And I would love to sport a fake, stitched together outfit and title.

    Very disingenuous. I don't think I saw anyone complain that they added new ways to progress towards pirate legend. The complaints were about how much more efficient the new way is than the original. I used to agree, but have changed my opinion after seeing what a large chunk of doubloons you have to pay to get the level. In fact, I think the cost should scale down. It's pointless for a level 10 to buy a letter of recommendation.

    Nah, largely what I've seen is people insisting on creating sub classes of pirate legend to set themselves apart from those who have more options on how to get there, derisively labeling those players as fake. Its toxic AF and it keeps coming back on this forum despite rare putting the kibosh on it. I'm just poking fun at that toxicity.

    That said the possibilities here are endless, a "sharpshooter" title for connecting on 20 hits without a miss with the EoR, ect.

    There were several exploits that people used to level fast. At least one big one, merchant exploit, was not fixed for weeks. Every pirate legend I have ever met used some form of exploit to level. Let's not forget that the rewards for experience were changed also. It takes a special kind of person to be mad that others have reached legend after they bought a level or two.

    I agree, but what kind of "Gag titles" would you like to see "human cannonball" for your friends who just cant stay on the ship and shoot themselves at everything?

    @crazyjuan chicken chaser, pig lover, b***y trapper. Cliff diver, rescue swimmer, s*************r, blunder buster, yellow stripe ( for cowards). Shallow water pirate, bad shot, stoner ( for those that hit lots of rocks; ). Kracken kills, shark bait, shovel head. I am sure I can come up with more.

    I am a Pirate Legend and I don't believe in this whole "Fake/True Pirate Legend" fiasco. I do however believe in "Good/Bad Pirate Legends" meaning someone who is Good at PVP and someone how is Bad at PVP. A Pirate Legend should be good at PVP because they spent so many hours playing the game.

    This is just my two cents.
