since there will be no Gachapon (lootcrates) does that mean the supposed pets will have a life span and die?

  • basically the appeal of lootcrates to developers is that they're easy to make filled with c**p and people will willing shell out for 100's of them at a time

its why a lot of MMO's stopped selling pets and clothing cosmetics directly in their cash shop and instead opted to put these items into a gachapon

    they make way more money

but RARE has stated they will not be doing gachas but instead be selling pets, but that makes me wonder will they have durations and bonuses that will make players want to buy 100's of them at a time?

  • @splatulated this game is family friendly and it's illegal in some countries to offer lootcrates for money (because of the addictiveness to children): This is considered gambling.

I actually don't know if Rare stated any other information about pets except that they'll be coming with the MTX (microtransactions) add-on which will probably be arriving about 3 months after launch (unconfirmed afaik).

  • I'm not certain about the life span of pets. I'm sure that they will be purely cosmetic items, because Pay To Win would not be an attractive thing for sales. I'm glad they opted to not use loot crates. Rare knows what they are doing, and they are doing it well.

  • Rare made it very clear that they want us to know what we're buying. Loot crates are becoming more and more of a legal issue. Rare has promised that we will know what we're buying and will never have to pay more for DLC and such. Their revenue will most likely be generated by selling more cosmetics. In their writing about animal purchases, they did not note a lifespan for them. The implicit is that your pet will be with you forever. They can always sell more types of pets.

  • “Well, I’m keeping my pet forever. Even if he is big, ugly, has one eye, an his mother dresses him funny.”

    ...so said the pug.
