Re-adding the Old Hitmarker aka. Preseason 10 Hitmarker

  • While the game devolopers, team etc. focusing on a smooth, faster and more fluent gameplay, in addition they could re-add the Old hitmarker, which was way less clunky and disappearing faster from the screen (not blocking the screen for 1-2 seconds).
Some people may not agree with it affecting gameplay/feeling clunky, but adding it as a toggle makes everyone happy, as there are many who prefer the old hitmarker, and adding a toggle means that everyone has a choice, especially seeing as there's no gameplay advantage to a hitmarker.
In my opinion this change would make the game feeling less clunkier and would make many players happy.

  • Yes! Adding it as a togglable option would be great and everyone would be happy! It would really add to the OG smooth feel of combat,

  • @saeblmaestro I totally agree with your point. Bringing back the old hitmarker as an optional toggle would definitely improve the overall experience, since it gives players more freedom without creating any unfair advantage.

  • @gehruber how would a hitmarker give an unfair advantage either way? The older one just looks better no advantage to it.

  • I completely agree, I think it would be nice to have an option to change hitmarker's shape (you could also add old hitmarker shape with red color when killing)

  • 100%. No reason not to add it. No advantage, and shouldnt be that time consuming to add anyway

  • it should be a option to pick so people are not forced to use it

  • @pcgaymerts yeah i think thats the idea

  • this one is actually a really easy job like there's not even stuff that could over complicate it like the fov increase where they had to change some zoom values. In this one it's literally a toggle switch and like 10 lines of code at max. could code make this in like 5 minutes if you're fast

  • this would be a really good addition

  • +rep i agree

  • I completely agree, I think it would be nice to have an option to change hitmarker's shape (you could also add old hitmarker shape with red color when killing)

  • Would love to see this return, I feel the art style of the sea of thieves have drifted too far away from its roots and the new hitmarkers really do not fit, they just remind me of overwatch. As I mainly pve, small things like this really improve the feel of the game and the immersions.

  • To add on to this farther why not just let us make our own hit markers? As i enjoy both the old and the new, but also think it would be cool to have a shorter hit marker with different coloring and maybe even a boarder of some kind.

  • Yes, yes, yes! I have been preaching this forever! As soon as hit markers were changed I wondered why they didn’t add an option to change to the older one, you could even make it red to accomodate for the red marker change.

  • @saeblmaestro very little change for a bigger positive response in the community

  • With the recent addition of 110 fov, and announcement of reintroducing quick swap (faster weapon switching), an option for old hit markers, as well as the modern ones, would be perfect to see come along with the new quick swap update. The community has shown appreciation of all that rare is doing right now for the PvP side of the game, and the option to toggle between preferred hit markers would be nice.

  • I feel adding the old hitmarker or at least an option for it will make you feel more satisfied for when you hit shots as someone who has been playing sea of thieves since 2020 I have felt like the game has been missing something without it i really do appreciate the new fov changes and the fixes on weapon switching but i still feel like something will be missing without the old hit marker being apart of the good pvp changes

  • this would become a really good addition, being able to pick between legacy and current hit / kill marker would be very nice

  • I really think this will be an excellent quality of life change for the community as they still do have access to the new hitmarkers rare added while also being able to switch the old hitmarkers (better ones)

  • I think bringing back the Old Hitmarker would be a great addition to the Game since you guys are currently working on making a smoother gameplay experience and in my opinion the old hitmarker was way smoother than the current one.
This doesnt mean that you should just replace the current one with the old one tho.I think it would be better to just add it as an option so people are able to choose what they prefer.
This would make the game feel much smoother and original.

  • I completely agree – the old hitmarker felt cleaner and less intrusive. Having it as a toggle would be the perfect compromise, letting players choose what feels best for them without impacting balance.

  • Yes, bringing back the old hitmarker as an option would make a huge difference. It kept the screen clear and didn’t distract from the action, which really helps with keeping gameplay smooth.

  • I think this is a great idea. Since hitmarkers don’t change actual gameplay, adding a toggle for the older style just gives players more freedom without creating any unfair advantage.

  • This makes a lot of sense. Player choice is always a good thing, and since the old hitmarker was less obstructive, reintroducing it as an option would make the game feel more fluid for many of us.

  • I think re-adding the old hitmarker as an optional toggle would be a great improvement for Sea of Thieves. Right now, the newer hitmarker feels a bit clunky and lingers on the screen too long, sometimes blocking visibility for a second or two. In a game that’s all about fast reactions, situational awareness, and fluid combat, that extra visual clutter can break immersion and make encounters feel less smooth. The older hitmarker was much more subtle, disappeared quickly, and blended naturally into the flow of gameplay. By giving players the choice between the old and new versions, Rare wouldn’t be removing anything—just offering flexibility. Since hitmarkers don’t affect actual gameplay or provide any competitive advantage, this would simply be a quality-of-life change that lets players decide what feels more comfortable. It’s a small tweak, but one that could make the overall experience feel sharper and more enjoyable for a lot of us.

  • Yes! Bringing back the old style of the hitmarker would be awesome. Making it toggable even better, so theres no reason why to not add it.

  • least boosted forum post

  • would be a very good option to have. 0% of the player base is going to be mad about it and a 100% of the player base is going to like it or dont care about it. + there is noway it can be a hard to implement.

  • I think the "og" combat feel was it just feeling smoother because the game engine was not bloated trying to run more things then it was designed for back in the day. While adding old hit markers would be great and I support it and would suggest you add even more custom options for the hit markers like other games have, I just hope they actually focus on optimization of the actual game play, making it feels smooth and run better... You know less lag, rubber banding and "server issues".
