Thoughts on a safe zone?

  • Hey all, was thinking about reasons for/how to add a safe zone. Would love to hear thoughts.

    What:
-a place within port merrick or a similar island/building/area as a safe zone for all world players to interact
    -player damage output disabled
-ships would also have to remain safe, so perhaps a crew docking feature could be enabled

    Why:
-remove incentives to sink others before getting to know them + lessen toxic behavior/promote assistance
-in this designated zone, players could easily engage to make friends and/or form alliances
-perhaps players could scuttle to join crews or guilds via invites
-players can leave karma crates, gifts, etc.
-perhaps there could be a trading mechanic???

    Concerns:
-people would spend too much time here and it would lessen player engagement on the seas (I know some may not agree + servers would likely implode, but I always hope for larger player counts on servers to provide additional life and interaction)

  • I mean this genuinely as someone that has played this game daily for significant amounts of time for a long amount of time,

High seas darn near already has safe zones as the game has shifted to being less intense.

A lot of the players these days would rather alliance at a fotd than fight over it.

As the more experienced players have moved on the newer generations of pirates are far less aggressive. Diluting out a lot of the more serious threat on the sea.

Tuckers are nearly non existent compared to how common they were a few years ago.

The game has changed significantly more towards people farming than true organic risk/reward.

Setting aside their "no safe zone" posts, this game is a lot more safe as an adventurer than it once was.

Safe zones wouldn't stop people from trolling or clashing anyway.

The times that the cof is in the fotd it's just alliance server season, people farm those things all the time.

  • No.

    • Players who want to PvP would sit outside the safe zone, and fire inwards, while people inside could not fire back.
    • If someone was losing a fight, and they were near the safe zone; They would sail into it to repair and rearm worry-free. Essentially resetting the battle. They would do this repeatedly until they were winning.
    • Players would camp outside the safe zone to jump anyone leaving.
    • Players would steal off other player's ships inside the safe zone, since other players cannot fight back to protect their treasure. Remember: It's not yours until you sell it!
    • If treasure cannot be stolen (Somehow); All players would go here to drop off treasure without a chance of it being stolen.

This idea gets suggested every few months, and it would never work.

  • Safer Seas....

  • This will only create more dead servers. It reminds me of GTA online when half of the players waited in their "safe zone" apartments until the server was empty.

  • We already have the Ferry. A no ship sinking zone. Feel free to get to know other pirates. Just like year 1 days

  • @burnbacon Lolol

  • @el-c4pitano all good points, thanks all

  • @metal-ravage yeh :/ feel that

  • @wolfmanbush yep, I hear you. Same here on countless hours. Thanks for the feedback, helpful and agree with most

  • @th3-tater haha yeh you’re probably right. I wouldn’t touch that game mode on my own accord.

  • @guildar9194 well said, great points. I don’t really see a workaround. Case dismissed on this one.

  • @burnbacon you there often?

  • @el-c4pitano

Am when waiting for passing souls to ask, "What brings you here"

  • Guildar has a point and plus that would probably be it to where we couldn’t dive when we do hourglass

  • As the topic has come to a close from the OP we will go ahead and drop anchor on it to prevent any chance of spiraling towards unhelpful or demeaning comments. Fair winds and calm seas. Thank you.
