Post-curse faction commendations

    Hi,

    I'm wondering if there ever going to be a change related to season 8 faction commendations like: Rack Them Up, Risk It All, His Favourite Crew, Running the Risk, Exemplary Captain, Too Many to Count

    These commendations only count against rival faction, 2 of them requires us to fly grade V emissary which is atleast 2 wins as guardian, maybe 1 as servant if the opponent has a lot of crates which is usually not the case. Same goes for the commendations which require to sink rival faction ships while wearing the curse, but thats not a big deal because we only need 50 for grade V, however the rest takes a huge playtime since we can't choose to look for same faction ships in the queue or not, and we are matching against them really often which makes the progression painfully slow, especially if we lose the fight against them and have to start over as grade I emissary.

    I see that I'm getting pop-ups for rival faction sinks for milestones even though they are the same faction, so can we expect that it will work the same way with these commendations in the near future?

    I agree to an extent, we shouldn't be punished for fighting same faction that we haven't chosen to do. But I think we need to let recent updates settle, with cross stamp now in it could be that you get more consistent matches against 'correct ' faction, I believe it was stated that same faction battles are last priority to find matchmaking, I guess it depends on priority order and also players don't always know what they actually want in terms of will feel best when playing.

    Say we prioritise opposite faction battles over the skill based matchmaking. Means you go against other faction but lots of unbalanced fight where there's a clear better crew and the other has no chance of winning.

    They fixed the milestones?

    Not to deviate from your main point, but this is something I was waiting on for the last, however many weeks it's been since same-faction matches were added.

    Unfortunate that the commendations still don't count and I agree with you. If you won a battle, you won a battle. Let it count.

    They fixed the milestones?

    I can't confirm if the milestones are working perfectly but I'm sure that I've seen pop-ups for sinking guardians while I was also servant just as my opponent for example

    Edit: as you can see I sunk a guardian here(I was also guardian) and got notification for winning against servant

    I see your point, but a better crew can also run the same faction at the same time which means we risk all for no reward at all commendation-wise(except for streak, but if you are already done with those commendations it's really just nothing..).

    @molnaramy00 it’s likely they’ll change it in the near future since you can’t choose your fight, as you mentioned.

    The thing is : why didn't they do it when they introduced same-faction battles ? They never go to the end of things it seems....

    This is essentially what made me quit the grind (and the game, kind of).

    How long has it been ? 3 months ? Maybe this mode will work in s11...

    @jolly-ol-yep Rare are pretty reactive to the community and what it wants and looks for than be proactive, so changes take time.

    Are they ? They launched the content then took holidays.
    First thing they did, one month in, when everyone complained about the grind being too much ? They nerfed allegiance gained after lvl 100.
    2 months in, still no cross-stamp matchmaking, but same faction battles. (I started the EXACT same thread one month ago)
    3 months in, commendations not fixed.

    Sorry, I don't know which other games you play, but I really wouldn't call that "pretty reactive". They just listened to streamers, as usual

    @jolly-ol-yep oh I don’t mean reactive as a good thing, just they react to the bad things going on in the game and rush to fix it, instead of thinking ahead if it’s a bad idea or not.

    @jolly-ol-yep Not only did they nerf allegiance gain but then ran a bonus weekend on x-mas weekend. But yea when this game first launched, like most games, they were patching constantly. Then it became weekly, Then bi-weekly, Now it seems 1-1.5 months per patch. So when they do something like break the harpoon at sovereigns were stuck with that bug for an unacceptable amount of time. Similarly the hourglass system was full of bugs and exploits and needed a lot of TLC after launch. Didn't even get a word from the devs. Exploits all over the place. They finally addressed some issues after a lot of people had abandoned the system. I missed out on half the commendation progress I could have gotten because there were bugs preventing you from getting credit. Either due to captaincy or what I was theorizing was that it was being in a crew with someone who didn't have the curse because they second that person left I started getting credit.

    But yea for sure they are kinda setting the system up to fail when they have transitioned to this less frequent update schedule, they knew they were taking 1 month off for the holidays... Which is 100% fine... If they didn't release the hourglass. But they did. Skull & Bones is all about naval combat and the reason season8 was slotted for a November release is because that's when Skull & Bones was set to release. So it was at least party to bring naval combat to the forefront of SoT while a competing game would be on the market. But months before Season8 dropped we got the news Skull & Bones was delayed. They could have shifted gears for season8 and put out something easier that wouldn't need a lot of fixing and balancing. Instead we get a season8 which is both one of the "best seasons" according to streamers like HitboTC and also stated by HitboTC "it might be to late to save it" changes have been to slow, grind is too long and unrewarding for casual people, which as much as pvpers have this elitist attitude they need the casual people to feed them the wins and keep the system alive. Basically you farm your way to 200 then rewards from lvls stop and you got a few rewards that unlock from commendations which follow the same flawed system as arena. You know all that stuff you just did to get these arena cosmetics? Ok well now wear the cosmetics and do the grind all over again to get a 2nd cosmetic.

    I think they need someone who thinks like a gamer from the perspective of rewarding gameplay. Because the hourglass system doesn't feel rewarding at all. They also tend to go overboard on commendation numbers. Like I have been working on opening 100 treasure vaults for a while... But why should I even play the game when I am caught up with my ledger rewards? 2 new ledger rewards per season isn't enough especially when a season is going to last 5+ months. And having played the game since year one I have learned there's no need to rush most commendations because they will add something to make you need to regrind that old stuff anyway. Though captaincy was a bit much. That hurt my soul. Pretty much all past progress being meaningless and knowing even if past progress was counter you still had one heck of a grind ahead of you to unlock the golden cosmetics.

    Found some polls on Reddit:

    Some players have not gotten the curses yet, which is the requirement to start these commendations. For example, it took me a while to get one of the basic commendations to Grade V because I was getting a lot of battle of honors during community day.
    I hope that same faction battles become less common by the time I get the curses.

    Another thing makes progressing harder - I just realized that you won't get credit for the commendation Rack Them Up and Too Many to Count in case the opponent ragequits before the fight ends..
