Waypoint Marker [New feature]

  • Hello Rare, I was wondering if you could implement a system where when you place a marker on the map it will also display it in the real world on your hud and your crews hud. I think this would greatly make the game easier to navigate for new players that might get lost and/or tired of having to constatly check the map table.

This feature would not clutter the hud interface as it is only active when you have a waypoint set. Then once you arrive at the destination the waypoint will be removed to keep the hud clean for the players. Alternativly the waypoint could look more like the reaper chest flare/beacon thingy. The benefit of doing it this way is that it would not be apart of the hud but still be able to let the player know where he/she is going without having to leave the ships deck.

I think this feature will help keep new players from quiting prematurly before they get to experiance the great parts of sea of thieves. Also, it would generally remove the repetitive actions of running and checking the map over and over again which eventually becomes monotonus. Once you looked at the map to figure out the islands you have to go to, you should now be immersed in deeper sea of thieves experiance of sailing, exploring, and combat.

    Thank you

  • I think the idea of placing a marker (as a flag or something like that) could be interesting, but extremely unnecessary, as we have many landmarks on the maps. Sea of Thieves is a game made for many things to be done as a pirate, of course, with a touch of fantasy, putting a marker, depending on how it will be placed, even gets into the theme, but anything in the hud is not the best way.

  • This game tries to go for a minimalist approach with replacing common HUD like features with physical tools. An an example would be no compass rose on the HUD replaced with a physical compass one needs to pull out. I personally would rather have a Flare Gun. It acts in the purpose you describe, while keeping to that minimalist approach. The Flare would cause no fire, limited to one shot only re-loadable at a resupply. A physical flare adds dimension to the game, it has limitless utility for communicating. One could signal an attack, mark a dig spot, mark a bounty location, or something along the lines of communicating with another crew. Plenty more as well.

  • No offence but I really don’t like this idea due to the fact that it would get rid of the hole pirate aspect of sailing because a waypoint would make it be a go-to-island-get-loot-sell and I believe little aspects like these should stay

  • Cartography is a thing.

A pirate's life is not about convenience.

  • The sailing isnt supposed to be easy it is another obstacle

  • This would detract from pirate immersion. I think this would be the opposite of the games hashtag BeMorePirate
