Pre-ordered the game for my son, he can't download/play from Xbox Insider Hub

  • i just now preordered the game for my son and he can not play. everytime he tried to launch the xbox insider hub it says he has to be over 18. he's 19... what gives? also, tried to register him on here as an insider and said he wasn't old enough.

  • I have been seriously trying to purchase 2 more copies of this game for both my kids. I have spent almost 4 hours trying to get the game on their computer using Xbox Insider Hub to no availability because you have to be 18+ to use it. Even changing their ages doesnt work. Even creating new accounts and trying to use those, didn't work.

    I do not think at this point that I can spend my money on 2 more copies because I can not get them in to play with me in the preorder. I was not even going to cancel their preorders as I promised them the dlc, etc.

    I've been working with Microsoft support all night and they have been trying to be helpful and this has been a total and completely failure tonight. I just wanted to enjoy a game with all my kids at the same time. 4 players!

    I really don't think this is fair. I'm just trying to support the game and look what is happening.

  • @vipeness Although this is an issue that would have to be resolved by the Microsoft Support team in regards to the ages of the accounts (as far as I know this cannot be changed), you can try and contact the Sea of Thieves support team here at the top of your page and see if they have any other suggestions for you.

  • @VipeNess Piggy-backing off of what @DHG-IXxRMACxXI said, likely what the issue happening is that when you created the accounts for your kids (likely before they were 18) as Family accounts, that Xbox has not recognized that they are now over 18. There is a way to "graduate" the account to be recognized as over 18, which you can find through the Xbox Support page. This video might also help:

    As the game up to this point required an NDA, which you had to be over 18 to authorize, this is likely why this issue occurred in the first place. We can pass this on to the team at Rare for future builds, but the overall issue is an Xbox account issue and not necessarily a game issue. Hope this helps!

  • To mirror the above posts, this is more of a Microsoft issue, and how your accounts are set up, and not Rare.

    Saying a minor inconvenience has "ruined your night" seems like a stretch. You could've easily done something else with your time. It's a c****y situation, but I bet the resolve is simple enough that you'll realize this is a lot of grief over spilled milk.

    Thanks for linking to this. Before you posted this, we did try this method with making a brand new account that was set it as 39 years old and it still didn't work. The problem is at the moment with the Xbox Insider Hub application. The representative over the phone has confirmed that the Xbox Insider Hub should not have been used as the game is currently rated as T for Teen. Also, there is a huge issue (permanent issue) that can't access the game/download related to the Xbox Insider Hub with children accounts.

  • Same here, very frustrating. I bought a 2nd copy so I could play the game with my daughter but I can't install the Insider Hub in order to install the game because it says she's under 18.

    I've changed her MS account to adult and changed her birthday to be 30 years old, removed her and added her back to the family as an adult. Everything Microsoft now confirms she is over 18 except the stupid Insider Hub.

    Get the hub out of the way and fix this.

  • Same issue here - bought the game on my son account and no matter how I have adjusted his profile and updated his account to an adult he is still unable to play... nothing like sinking hours into administrate profile adjusments to still not be able to play... big disappointment. I'll take a refund thx!

  • I am having a similar issue but I am 28 lol. It's so frustrating I spent 3 hours trying to fix it but ended up giving up and using a different account. Xbox insider hub can't do math. TBH the whole Microsoft Account system is an abomination. It pains me that such a good game chose such a terrible platform to launch from (I.e. Microsoft store).

  • Well, since the CLOSED BETA is now over... the game will not be in the Xbox Insider App ever again for final release. It will fix the issue immediately... but we weren't able to test the game on our kid's computers so now we are at the mercy of a final purchase...

  • @vipeness It has not been resolved and likely will not be resolved as it's a restriction of the Xbox Insider App/Programme itself in which Microsoft can't remove the age restriction on it.

    Side note: the Rare Employee tag does not work, only the Deckhands tag works

  • @vipeness So double checked with the team and while the hope was that this was resolved, apparently it is still an issue with the Hub for the Beta. Sorry this isn't helpful at this time.

  • Submit a support ticket and the team can take a closer look.
