Male or female character option!

  • My girlfriend started playing last week and as she got to pick her pirate, she wanted a goodlooking female pirate, this took her VERY long to find, wouldnt it safe alot of time if you could pick the gender before scrolling through the options?

Making it much easier to find a pirate suited for you!

    Let me know!

  • You do have some good points but I believe the game save file has many different characters set up in an array and with the game file being as big as it is; the ability to choose between male and female (and other) would create more lag in the game because it has to read two more arrays the size of a third world country.

Basicly it would be more lagy to add this feature. Not too lagy I might add, its still a good idea.

I dont think the developers at Rare really thought this would be an issue when they first introduced the feature to choose your character.

  • Sadly, any changes to character customisation, the IPG or whatever, isn't something that Rare is currently prioritising. Many, many people have asked for such a feature and many more have asked for even more options.

Most of us are sure that it will come eventually but for all of those Pirates out there (myself included) who are unhappy with their Pirate, this comes as little comfort, knowing that our only recourse is to wipe all of our progress and have to start fresh, losing all of our time limited items etc.

I would however, highly recommend that players search the forums for this subject before creating a new post asking for it again, as perhaps a long post, with many responses MIGHT get noticed by one or more devs, as opposed to so many smaller posts, all with only a few replies.

In game lagg because of the new players choosing their pirates with the option to have only male or female characters rendered? Is that a thing? :o

they should add an option to change appearance, i would pay irl money to change mine!!!

  • @baftnation Great idea. This is a really simple suggestion that would save a lot of time in character selection. I spent a couple hours trying to find the "perfect" avatar, and even then never felt 100% happy with my eventual choice. Reducing the pool by half would have sped up the process considerably and probably resulted in a more favorable choice.

  • I'm guessing this will be offered once they implemented microtransactions.

  • Rare should also add more female sounding breathing and drowning sounds. Currently, every sound a female pirate makes sounds like a man.

The Infinite Pirate Generator (IPG) just creates pirates from different parts, those different pirates aren't all saved in a file. It should be trivial to add filters to limit the IPG to only select from a certain list of parts so that you only get female looking pirates, for example.

Since Rare wants to try to get randomized pirates so that players don't begin to look similar, I don't know if they'll ever introduce the ability to pick your pirate down to the finest detail but they can certainly provide some basic filters to make it quicker to select something you are happy with rather than generate set after set to get what you are looking for.

At the very least, they could use characters you've "locked" as a guideline to try to figure out what you are looking for and generate the new variations based on those.

The "Lock character details" part is about the most genius thing about this subject ive ever heard!
