The Pirate Code, Why do we have it if people aren't going to follow it?

    So, I'll keep this short.

    This has been something that OUR community has been getting away from.

    Case in point I witnessed the most messed up sh** I've seen in a while from a SOT Pioneer none the less.

    A person that will remain nameless killed brand new players to SOT over and over again.

    Even went as far as bailing water on the other ship to keep it afloat so they could keep killing the other players.

    Mind you this whole crew were also Pirate Legends. So why would they act like this? Aren't we supposed to be the ones helping the newbies? Smh

    Now, some may say "why do you care?"

    I care because we are slowly getting away from what we said this game could and would be, a game free of bullies and people who just play to grief other people.

    I think some should go back and read up on the code Is this a reach or should i just let people deal with their own battles?

    Some players, a minority one hopes, are like that. The problem is the way the game is configured to mix and match crews is something Rare have completely ignored. It is ruining what has potential to be a fun family game by allowing such 'bullying and thuggery'. No, the old 'pirate game' answer does not suffice.

    @draconumkingx As Captain Teague said when a question of ethics came up,quite emphatically I recall, 'The code is The Law'. So sorry, no that response doesn't cut it. :)

    @cptbartroberts Agree, therefore to allow a wider range of players to enjoy the game manage extremes. Life without balancing such extremes can be miserable in reality so we don't need to create an environment to promote it that it become a norm in reality even in a game.

    I had spawned in on my game and there was a galleon over the far side on an island they may had treasure they may not have I wouldn't know I got some voyages and was just about to set out on my boat when they had docked and jumped on my ship and killed me there was 3 of them in my ship and as I spawned in they sliced me to bits with their swords and killed me again. and again after the 4th time of being on the ghost ship I decided to scuttle my ship. they sent me abusive messages telling me i need to learn to fight and need to get gud and learn to play the game and learn to fight and not scuttle my ship like a ( inset insults ) I reported the messages on my xbox and blocked them. how the hell do they expect 1 person to be able to beat 3 who kill them as they spawn in.

    @crimsonraziel The pirate code in SoT is a definition of rules, not just guidelines. This isn't Pirates of the Caribbean.
    At some point @khaleesibot pointed that out already, i just can't find the statement right now.

    SoT is not a game to make friends...its a game to bring your friends.

    And after you made it to legend, there is nothing you can do that is fun. And dont tell me legendary voyages are fun...

    This is a damned if you do damned if you dont situation.

    You cant police people. You cant tell them what to do and what not to do.
    You've got a game with the freedom to do whatever you want within the confines of its rules. Noone is stopping you from blowing holes in every ship you see and noone is forcing you to do so.

    If you take away this freedom you're taking away everything that makes this game great. But there are people who revel in other people's misery. I have to say I've yet to encounter such people in my many hours of playtime, I've seen people who go full agression I've seen spawn campers I've seen people who'll chase you across the world and back. But never have I seen someone hunt for me or bother me too much. I've always had the option to just give up, scuttle ship etc.

    If new players get into the game and get spawn camped into oblivion that's a shame but the one doing the spawncamping cant be sure it's a new player. The Objective might be for the player to buy some time to loot the ship, make it scuttle to make safe passage to an island/ port possible etc. It's the campee's fault for going into it over and over expecting to somehow win. The ferry and loading screens have a pretty obvious message to scuttle.

    Also if someone leaves a game after one bad experience I don't think they game often. Gaming is all about setbacks and overcoming said odds, learning from it to improve and get better. That's part of the enjoyment.

    The code is for the most part followed. In Fleet of Thieves we pretty much give you every last chance you can get to not get sunk when we are sailing. Unless you straight out come up to us guns blazing were are going to give you a chance to send an Ahoy our way and cross paths unscathed. Just yesterday when I was trying to get Mega in before it went away we crossed paths with a sloop with one measly castaway chest on it. We called out and asked if they wanted or needed to do mega. They were silent so we sailed on. The second we were in gun range they opened up on us. We called out hey we don't want to sink you cease fire and we will go on. They kept firing so crewmate cannoned to their deck. killed them and we sank their ship. We took our bountiful 100g castaway chest and added it to our overloaded ship and went on our merry way.

    I think the problem here is in trying to balance the new player experience with the veteran player experience.

    The current problem being that there's not enough to keep veteran players occupied at present so many of them resort to getting their kicks from sinking other ships.

    The new player is still learning the ropes. If they get seal clubbed by veterans too much it might drive them away from the game. On the other hand if the veterans get too bored, they'll leave and newer players will have nobody to play with/against and will get bored and leave too eventually.

    I hope that the Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores add more things for higher level players to do, but I think this is going to continue to be a constant balancing act for as long as Rare keep the servers running.

    This detail was discussed quite a while ago, as it was misleading. In the end this just means you keep the conflict in the game, it doesn't mean you are not allowed to fight on land.

    The "pirate code", guidelines or not, IS a guide for the community, by the community, on the proper way to conduct themselves with others.

    Its purpose is to help foster a more friendly community.

    This is a shared world pirate adventure game. This was NEVER a "fun family game"

    @eric4bz The majority of people don't accept aggressive and vile people day to day, so why permit it in a game.

    I suggest you read Rare's own published aims of the game. I have posted ideas to address and retain the game ethos of PvPvE but to address the undoubted minority aggressive types that hound new players both intentionally AND unintentionally. The link is in the thread above. At present they aren't living up to their stated aims.

    New or experienced players have the same simple way to move on from this. Scuttle. Dang! That was hard! Problem solved in two minutes or less! There is no “need” whatsoever to address this. The “pirate code” is fake code in a video game. Give me a break. People will victimize you if you let them. Scuttle and move on jeez. I guess people can’t feel all like victims and wronged if they simply scuttle, and within two minutes can be “free” of this “victimization”.

    I just imagine the original "Mad Max" movie with a person in between stating that "it was not nice to chop off that guy's fingers with a sharpened boomerang".

    Open World, no rules except the ones you make!

    In society we have laws, those laws are broken both misdemeanor and felony, despite the consequences. Why would yo
    u expect anything different in a world in which there are little to no consequences

    @mr-kaluta I think you put your comment in with the quote because I didn't say ALL that.

    As to why I would expect the game to be different to 'misdamena' or 'felony'. I don't but I do expect Rare to live up to their own published intent which I reffered to in my feedback to them referenced above.

    @murkedymurk Okay, I see your 5 and raise you ten. I watched this go on why should you have to scuttle YOUR ship mess up your game because of another group of people want to be a*****s?

    and again I wasn't the one on the receiving end of this, plus I know how to handle myself WITHOUT sinking my own ship.

    Uh.. you do know that is from a movie script, and has jack sh*t to do with this game. The developers "code of conduct" overruled by a movie character.....yeah...
