What's the point of handing items?

@rdizz Well, it might be done in preparation, more useful for items that are coming up later.

I do agree that in the future this feature may play more of a role. Right now though, giving someone a banana in a pinch is the only true usefulness of this feature in the games current state.

I just feel like it could have been held back for when it is useful and more cosmetics or even emotes could have been added instead. Unless this feature is essential for content in hungering deep (I have no idea) but as it stands now I feel like it was a total waste of resources atm.

I am a fair person, and you won't catch me telling you or anyone who feels that way that they are wrong. A cool feature, while also being unnecessary at the moment.

  • @mr-spiderhead Isn’t that the whole game? Wait to see if something could be done later... This whole game is waiting for maybe something to do...

  • I would guess it would come in handy, let’s say one of your crew mates is a really adept sword fighter, able to stay alive longer. If another teammate runs out of bananas keeping people alive would be a bonus...

  • I don't know how many times I've said, "Oh there's five bananas here!..... which I just took....sorry!"

  • I believe in an earlier video Rare said that this feature was largely being handled by one member of the team in their spare time. I am sure at this point they have more people on it, but I am curious to know how many people are working on this feature now as well. The only usefulness I can see is handing a banana.

It is most definitely a cool feature for sure.... it just doesnt really have much of a use ATM.

  • I'll give bananas to strangers on the ferry of the damned.

It gives software engineers an excuse not to work on connectivity issues and grey screen.

  • @lil-fokker 2 people down fir one cannon? Hard pass on that.

  • @twiztedkarrtoon lol I'd rather use c****y players as a bullet sponge than a banana vacuum.

you can look at it that way.
    Or
one player devoted to the cannon....never ceasing fire to run back and forth for balls....cuz they can simply shout for supplies from the deckhand who's also running sails or fixing holes.

Especially if you're surrounded by several other galleons and ya need two or more players on cannons and one running supplies.....could make the difference.

  • @rdizz 1 word "Immersion" any step to make the world more immersive isn't a bad one.

  • It would be odd to drop supply items as we don't see cannon balls without them being held or in flight when fired, then to think of them rolling around on the ship deck could would be annoying.

To load someone's inventory with cannon balls would be cool as they are still firing the cannon and to return between bailing with more planks for whoever is patching damages would also work to everyone's benefit.

Of course offering a source of health pick-up is not uncommon in games so yeah, I can see the use of giving / receiving all three supply items being implemented.

  • @lil-fokker sounds like your comms and situational awareness need work.

Except it doesnt work like that. There is a cooldown and a timer to get it. It is much much much faster to just turn around on a sloop and refill.

Because nothing helps pass those lonely nights on the sea better than firmly placing your banana into your crewmates hand.

    Ohh matron!

  • The thing that upsets me about this feature is that I believe we will see far less items washed up on shores. Because they will likely need the space in the world for bananas to appear as an item in your hand.
Hope that's not the case as I like the random things you find much better than being able to hand a banana or cannonball to someone instead of just switching places with that player and letting them run for supplies.

  • Hopefully they plan to have a more robust item economy and this is the start of them preparing the game to have more co op features like this, I imagine they intended this feature to be used more often when you parlay another crew than Among your own, and if they do add in a lot more items or change the way artifacts are held or something, the ability to pass and trade items could be huge for a pirate game. I’ve always said genuine economics and commerce would
Be amazing in a pirate game.

Like your first reply though to the guy saying they are preparing for future updates with this, I’m not holding my breath. It would be nice if they added in some freeform content with more depth than fetch quests that revolve around a pirate economy though. Have minigames for the various steps of preparing items for merchanting by making them skill and teamwork based , harvest tobbaco, you can sell as is or do the cigar minigame and increase the value, but have to watch your back and physically bring the tobacco to the “cigar factory” making it more of a risk. Gameplay like this would keep me playing for hundreds more hours. Fetch quests won’t.

  • @rdizz
For sure...i'm not describing what IS.....I'm dreaming about what SHOULD be.

RARE needs these little kicks of creativity. I think they're great artists and decent game developers.....but they're def missing the big dreamers.

    That's where we come in.
