Sea of Thieves is a Cross Platforming Masterpiece - Thank You Rare & Microsoft

  • RARE and Microsoft - THANK YOU!

I can finally game with some of my friends and family that don’t play on PC!

Sea of Thieves is the first real cross-platform game that has come out, that has truly bridged the gap between XBox and PC gamers. This has opened the door for all of our gaming circles, allowing for them to merge, and we absolutely couldn't be happier!

Some players have expressed some frustration and discontent with cross-platforming; however, we are not among them. In fact our circle of 20 Plus friends and family that are now finally able to play together are absolutely stoked with what what RARE and Microsoft have done for us.

It is such an awesome privilege and blessing to finally be able to play with friends and family regardless of what device we own or prefer to game on. We can't say enough to show our appreciation for taking the time to program the cross-platforming in and for making it all possible.

    You guys rock!

The potential for our future as gamers, XBox and PC alike, is limitless! It's like the first real ceasefire between the console/pc war has been made, and a desperately desired treaty is about to finally be drafted. Hooray! Instead of arguing over which system is better, we can turn from enemies into gaming buddies!

The only suggestion I have for the Devs, and/or Microsoft techs is to update the X-Box so that it can also be allowed to use a Keyboard and Mouse for Sea of Thieves. I can use an X-Box controller on my PC, thus it is only fair that the X-Box gamers should be able to use a mouse and keyboard too if they'd like.

Either way - Thrilled at what you guys have created and we will continue to show our support as our circle of gaming friends continues to grow all because of you.

Keep up the good work Rare!

  • I'll upvote that mate! Bang on!

  • I am confused now. Some hate it, some love it. What do i make of this, as a pc player?

But good for you mate. Glad to see ppl getting to play together.

  • Well said yo! Ditto to the max!

  • Absolutely bloody right. Rock on Rare.

  • "I can finally game with some of my friends and family that don’t play on PC!"

You could already do that for a while with a few games that already offer Cross Platforming options. And me thinks ye knew this before ye posted, but thanks for another crossplay thread. Visibility is key. Rare is gonna have to address it soon. Cheers!

  • SoT is certainly not the first cross-platform game and is purposely limited to xbox and windows10 because Microsoft decided so, while many other titles support a wider range of platforms.

I'm glad you can play with your circle of friends (at the end of the day, that's really all that matters), but there's really nothing special or groundbreaking about what they did: it's just a marketing move.

  • I couldn't agree more, that this game is amazing! What Rare and Microsoft has done has made it possible for so many of us to now start playing together, on an engine that is modern and fun! I am thrilled to finally be able to play with my friends and family that don't use the same platform that I do.

  • Shock horror, pc player likes crossplay, stop the presses!!

  • I love it, first Xbox game I own and loving it. I've played with people from all over the world with little to no lag. I've already played with over a dozen nations so far and I love meeting people and having a good time learning about each other. What an experience!

    yes.

  • I still appreciate having a fun modern release be cross-platform that actually works this well! Marketing ploy or not, does it matter? What matters is they have made a game that is a lot of fun and lets me play with my friends and family on PC and X-Box alike. As far as I am concerned, it's a win!

    Here here!

  • @shackelfourd Absolutely! And when they add the crossplay option, nothing will change for you. Isn't that comforting?

  • @slim-shanty
You mean MKB support for Xbox, right? :)

    You guys rock!

Cross Platform as stated before, has been around for quite some time now, but by no means has Rare done something amazing on that front... XBox and Windows 10 share a lot of the same capabilities and Software.

CCP Games, best known for their Sci-Fi MMO "Eve Online" on the PC around 4 years ago released a First Person Shooter "Dust 514" for the PC and PlayStation 3/4 that was Cross Platform, but the real achievement to this wasn't a simple Cross Platform for 1 Game with 2 Systems, but it was the fact Dust 514, a First Person Shooter, was Merged into the Eve Online World, a completely Separate, and different Game to each other, allowing not only 2 different Systems to play 1 Game, but 2 different Games to play alongside each other.

Not saying what Rare have done, isn't nice having Cross Platform, just saying, they are far from the first to do such a thing, and no one has done, or even attempted to do what CCP Games did.

I agree 120% !!!!!! Thanks microsoft and rare you guys are doin pioneer work here and keep going crossplatforming is the future dispite what some may argue ... maybe let the vision of crossplay be a major influence on the next console generation to get something playstation does not support as much as microsoft can

  • @genereder
Crossplay will only be the future for a little while.
Once the rest of the xbox community wise up & realise that they are at a disadvantage when playing against pc players & they stop buying crossplay games, it'll just leave the pc players who love it, back with their own kind!!
You guys make me laugh!! You have nothing but disdain for console players & wouldn't wee on them if they were on fire.
But as soon as you realise you are at an advantage then crossplay becomes the best thing since sliced bread.
    Hypocrites!!

Nope. Not even close. If I wanted to sit at a desk & use a keyboard & mouse, I would have spent $5,000+ on a gaming rig, but since I chose to put that money towards a 65" OLED 4K TV, X1X and Dolbly Atmos receiver to play comfortably in my living room instead, I'll stick to what I've been using for decades... a controller.

Why should I change the way I'm accustomed to playing on a service I've been subscribing to for over a decade for a few new kids on the block, who don't even pay rent?

I am playing on xbox thank you!

Why does microsoft not see the trend and develop a perfect mouse/keyboard-input device/software for next console generation?

    Maybe they already are?!

But only they will if there is money in it

How can there be money in it? With more people that like the idea of crossplay supporting this! I like it! Is has to start somewhere and if there is a game that can tolerate crossplay it is not overwatch, not call of duty,.... it is sea of thieves....

Believe me i am a bloodthursty pvp addict on my sea of thieves xbox and i dont mind encountering pc players. Actually i like them either as friend or foe because i think of myself as a better controller used player.

If you want to argue about PC vs Xbox then let me add that that xbox might have a slight disadvantage input device wise but PC has a big disadvantage with way more people experiencing technical issues like disconnects and its usually easier and more common to find xbox players using party chat and xbox clubs etc while PC masterrace is not as social thus more often to be found on sloops .... so its in my opinion the PC players who have disadvantages because it is way more frustrating to play the game alone and having disconnects losing all your treasure every other hour then having buddies and a stabile software

  • @slim-shanty
You don't have to do anything m8 :)

You're right, I don't, which is why they'll introduce the *Crossplay option. Glad we agree on this :)

  • @slim-shanty
We will see about that. :)
I predict the new XMouse will be announced soon and Xbros will have no excuse anymore :)

  • @logansdadtoo Out of all the companies, i thought they have handled it pretty bad to be honest l**o. Literally every other Xbox cross platform game has that beautiful button "Disable Crossplay" exept this one.

Like dont get me wrong its brilliant that communities are finally allowed to play together, its been way overdue. But it shouldnt be at the behest of one side, especially if they dont get a choice in the matter.

Unless they are going to add it to mobile and force them to play against Xbox players. I will then be a stern advocate of not giving a choice because i will be at the advantage then and it wont effect me/s

@Nebenkuh The only thing about that is, i still would like it to be a choice personally. So if they added K&M i think if you use it you should be matched with other people using them, or once again have an option to play with people on a level playing field. For me personally i hate K&M, just cant get used to it, its why i bought an Xbox so i dont have to deal with all that lol.

You think the majority really cares? I have met tons of Xbox players and literally noone has even mentioned anything negative about it, they tend to think its cool that we can play together. You are making the mistake of thinking that everyone cares just as much as you do, which they don't. Check the sub reddit, hardly any mention of it being a problem. You make me laugh, and I'm so glad that Rare isn't going to do anything to change it, just because I am imagine you getting more and more angry and the chip growing larger and larger on your shoulder.

"Nothing but disdain". Why are you so dramatic? Next you will be posting #ConsoleLivesMatter

  • @logansdadtoo

Shock horror, casual xboner doesn't like crossplay, stop the presses.

    Yours truly,
    A non-casual xboner

  • @nebenkuh I will never choose to use keyboard and mouse on my xbox. I love using the controller because I like the mobility and freedom that comes with using one. I can even lie down and play if I chose to.

"They will have no excuse" isn't exactly fair in that sense. I don't know where exactly I stand with this whole crossplay issue but I personally wouldn't want to be forced to play with a keyboard and mouse just to compete - if in fact that is the case and the crossplay argument isn't just an exaggerated argument.

  • @legandj
You speaking on behalf of the majority now then?
Funnily enough most xbox players i've spoken to about the subject seem to agree with me!
I don't use reddit at all, full of complete idiots, if you listen to opinions over there that's your choice!
Again, the crystal ball comes out & you can tell the future & what Rare's plans are!
I'm not getting angry at all m8, if i was, i would just leave. I'm disappointed, not angry.

Not being dramatic at all, you pc 'master racers' all treat console players like 2nd rate citizens, but now it's all 'i want to be able to play with my console friends' & 'crossplay is amazing' why the sudden change of heart??
Oh yeah, it's because of the advantage you don't have!!

  • @subaqueousreach
But if you're an xboner, you are a casual player!!
    If you don't own a pc you're a 2nd rate casual gamer, don't think otherwise ;)

  • Clearly he just started to play, first few hours are amazing

  • @logansdadtoo Well you seem to think you speak for the entire console playerbase with your dramatic claims of the xbox community stopping buying crossplay games, so I can do the same.

Honestly, Xbox will probably end up getting kb/m support and coming loaded with W10 lite, kind of like a cheap gaming PC/console hybrid. I'd get used to it if I were you, this is probably the last 'controller only' generation. People want options. Why limit yourself to a single control scheme? Pointless.

  • @evasive-envy
If you have the choice, you're not forced to do anything.
You can choose the more comfortable option, or the more competitive one. If both options exist, it's your choice and your consequences to deal with. Of course, both options should be as similar as possible, but that seems hard to accomplish because of their very different nature.

    @LogansDadToo
"Oh yeah, it's because of the advantage you don't have!!"
Honestly, there are so many bad PC players as well as Xboxers that it makes no difference. The majority of engagements are not decided by twitch reactions or turning speeds, but by positioning, awareness and tactics.

Also, an argument could be made that if you choose the cheaper, more convenient gaming platform (these points are subjective btw), you are in fact more of a casual gamer than someone who goes the extra mile, financially or otherwise, to better enjoy his hobby.

For example, I like coffee, but I'm not a connoisseur. I just got one of those machines where you put capsules in and get coffee out. Opposed to someone who carefully selects his coffee beans, pays attention to how they're ground and roasted and prepares his coffee with an expensive french press, I'm just a casual coffee drinker. If I want to enhance my coffee drinking experience, I will have to upgrade my equipment and put in the effort to learn about the subject. That's just how life works tbh.

  • @knifelife
    Totally agree bud.
Quite why they insist on making crossplay forced without even attempting to balance the controls properly is almost unbelievable!

I'm the same as you, love playing with my pc buddies & wouldn't change that at all, but for when i'm solo i want to know i died because of a better skilled player, not because he has a mouse!

Now, i know crossplay has been a part of this game since the beginning & during alpha testing the kb+m vs controller issue didn't seem to be that big an issue. Yeah, our most deadly pirate @Capta1n-Cr0ss was a pc player, that should've been the warning right there!
I wonder how many others in the top 20 were also pc players?

If there is no issue between kb+m & controller why don't Rare come out & say so??
It would stop all these types of posts, all the bickering about balance & parity would stop & we'd know one way or the other.
But they have done neither, they have not said a word on the subject, which again i think is poor form on their part!!

  • @nebenkuh
Skill does come into it to a point, but only to a point!
If you had 2 identical twins, 1 xbox (controller) & 1 pc player (kb+m) of equal skill & you forced them to fight on the deck of a galleon, i guarantee that the pc player will win more!
That's my point, an equally skilled pc player has a few milliseconds/seconds advantage in turn & aim speed over his xbox counterpart. So in a straight fight he will more often than not lose.
Yes again, situational awareness, positioning & tactics also come into play, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that xbox has inferior controls when against pc!

  • @shackelfourd

Nope if u want Mouse and Keyboard buy a PC !
