Sinking, robbing, and killing you isnt griefing, trolling, or toxic

  • Its being a pirate.

Also, if you are being spawn camped, its because you kept coming back. dont do that. just scuttle your ship as their tip says, or leave the server. #protip

  • @lowbei exactly. I just made a post about this. this is a pirate game which means it should be all about what some call griefing. Stealing, sinking and killing is what its all about and why I really want to play. if you want to play a peaceful game then you should maybe play no mans sky.

  • exactly. ive never seen people buy a pvp game then immediately demand an entirely new game mode.

i wonder if these same people buy CoD and go to the forums demanding a dating sim mode.

  • Pirates didn't attack other pirates though, so it's not really 'being a pirate'. #justsaying.

  • @tobyonekenobe Didn't they?.....got any facts to back that up? You ever hear of a Mutiny?

Please list the references your using to state your factual statement I would really like to read them.

Here's a nice reddit post that includes a reference.

  • Players can get stuck in a die-respawn-die cycle if another crew stays around on their ship.

Work in progress: A short-term mitigation for this is to make more players aware of the Scuttle option as a way of getting out of this scenario. We are adding information on this to the loading screen on the way back from the Ferry of the Damned, and also adding a reminder on the Ferry of the Damned itself that this option is available.

Our plan is to measure whether this makes a significant difference. Are people using the Scuttle option more, is it a solution that works for the majority of scenarios? We'll assess this before taking further steps.

Investigating: We are also considering options around moving ships to other world instances if they are caught in a griefing situation. This is a slightly more complex change, so we are currently investigating this to understand exactly what it would take, and the value.

i guess rare are wrong about its own game then?

  • @tresrottn Thanks for the info.

Maybe because it's not a PvP game? You keep spreading this c**p around every chance you get.

It's not advertised as a PvP game either. Or are you in fact saying full refunds are in order?

Game description on the official website mostly talks about the amazing PvE adventures and at a point talks a little tiny bit about added PvP danger.

Right. Pirates attack commercial ships. This is actually a ship/sailor combat simulator rather than anything to do with "pirates."

    no :)

  • This is a storytelling social game, with PvE AND PvP both required to create the story. Let's get this right folks.

  • @lowbei

COD has an offline, single player campaign and continues to be one of the most popular and widely played online games. That was a horrible example.

    This is not COD.

  • @tgirgis

    Read the thread man

  • @haltingstream22

    Stay on topic, man.

  • @tgirgis

I am directly referring to a comment that the OP made. If that's not on topic than what is?

My bad, I didn't realize lowbei used the CoD example.

  • @lowbei being on PC, its easy enough to hold A or D and whip around and blast the spawn killer in the face. its even easier if they are just standing their, still, and waiting.

  • @tresrottn there arnt merchant ships in the game tho and the closest it comes to it are the players who dont like pvp. so I guess attacking and looting the pve players is the pirate way.

  • Regardless, there is no way Rare can take out one element of the game, such as the PvP. That will collapse the entire structure.

  • Well the thread says it all, but you are going to have a hard time convincing some of this notion. I robbed a guys boat today while he was on an island, then he shot at me. Does that mean we are both griefers or is it just me? lol

To be fair I didn't even kill him he just scuttled his boat and left. He could clearly see I was sailing away. I think some people really just don't like the idea of pvp in anyway. I suppose there is little that can be done to change that.

  • @lowbei Good thing I bought an adventure game and not a PVP game since that is how Rare describes it. Unless of course you think the game designers don't get to determine what they made.

  • @mcstabbypants You bought a game that has elements of both.

I don't think Rare knows or ever knew what the game is. They are just as baffled as we are.

  • @tgirgis idk, but you made me laugh lol. If you read this forum long enough your sanity starts to slip away. I think its starting to affect me. lol

  • I reckon most the people who complain about it don't have a clue what pirates were like.

I'm not gonna lie to you bro, but when I realized that Rare thinks grog was a type of beer I lost it. They did no actual leg work on pirates.

  • I don't think griefing is an issue. I think people don't know what to call it so they use griefing to describe it.

I will say this, there is way more PvP going on than there needs to be. I know it's a part of the game, but it's become so common that a lot of the people who like the Pve more have a lot of trouble enjoying their favorite part of the game.

I empathize with both halves of the community. I have no interest in separating people into pve servers or anything. I am however concerned about the longevity of this title.

  • @tgirgis You have a great point there. A bit like the lack of a skull and crossbones flag.

  • @lowbei I get it. Its a pirate game so yeah. HOWEVER, There should be honor among thieves. There is a right and wrong way to be a pirate. Here are some examples of the wrong ways that if I see you doing it I WILL block you...

    1. Killing and spawn killing without reason. If I am already at an outpost and turned everything in or just starting up you have no reason to be an $%# hole and kill me over and over. Your getting nothing for it except blocked.
    2. If you are a 4 man gallon and you roll up on a 2 man sloop minding there own business and destroy them there is no honor in that. What chance did they have? How can you feel good about that take? It was not a fair fight! This comes down to who you are as a person and if your a complete #$%$ #%$% and have no honor then I will block you fast.
    3. If you have already taken my treasure and sunk my ship what reason do you have to keep spawn killing me? This will also get you blocked.
    4. My opinion may change with Gallon VS Sloop IF They make the sloops much faster. Then at least it would be hard for gallons to take a sloop out or steal their treasure because they can get away easy. Then Gallons would need to be very sneaky to take down a sloop and that is fair.
  • I do scuttle in those situations, but what benefit is there to spawn killing someone other than being a troll? Take their stuff and go. Or sink them. Spawn killing for no reason is absolutely griefing.

  • @thinkmcfly88 The reason is to see if they can p**s someone off enough to make a forum post about it.

  • @zep-darkwater I bought an adventure game that is what Rare calls it and that is what it is.
