@ecoelf Best tip I have for you is to play with friends so they can hold your spot for you when you crash.
Are AMD Crashes Going to be Fixed by Launch?
@samu3lmumm Same here. Been trouble shooting all day. Called Microsoft only to deal with idiots Googleing on the opposite end of the line. I guess we just wait it out at this point. If not, I'm going to be demanding a refund.
@kojiro-nakamura With minimum settings it's more stable for me, it crashed a couple times after 4h and after 10 min just after. The crashes also seem to mess up the desktop view, being a driver issue it's probably messing with other things too
@xxbonfi96xx well i changed my GPU driver to 17.10.2 turned off Shader Cache and turned down Lightning and Shadows to teh lowest setting (moved the rest to Legendary). So far for me no crashes.
Gona see how it goes and test it more. Radeon settings/Gaming/Global graphics and turn "Shader Cache" off if anyone wants to give it a go.I've been wondering for a few weeks now if this game was going to be playable at launch for AMD GPU's. It sure wasn't playable during last closed beta sessions and scale tests. The answer is still no, it seems. My brother's crashes anywhere from 5 minutes to 60 minutes and he's using an R9 280x. Mine has not crashed, I'm using Nvidia though. Hard to believe people are actually paying $60 for this game that feels like it's not even finished, and doesn't even work for a lot of people. We're both trying a 14 day game pass trial, so luckily we haven't spent any money on it.
@d4r4ki4n my brother's 280x gpu pc crashes usually while he's steering the ship at a random number of minutes in game
Sometimes its jumping into the water and sometimes its something else. Once it was running around at an outpost.
I can safely say its not my video card since every other game works perfectly. Even tho i see many people are using the same video card just like i am (R9 280x).
If it can run ARK and everything else with no problems on high settings it should be able to run this...The issue happens randomly and is Shader Cache related. It does not matter which graphic adjustments you will do. E.A. has the same problem with Star Wars Gambling Front... it is an Unreal Engine Issue, that needs Bugfixing since 2011.
But as AMD cards seem to remove themselves from the market of gamers, to krypto miners, NVIDIA seems to be the only manufacturer to have taken care of this.
AMD always was c****y with their drivers, but this is an AAA priced title, so I want an AAA fix! Heck, I can play PUBGs on highest settings and the game is UNREAL ENGINE to. They fixed the stuff.
I want this fixed or will demand a refund too.
@thenightmare21 I think that the trigger for that is the LOD shift from the low poly model to the fully detailed model. I'm pretty sure loading the shadows of the full model all at once is actually overloading and crashing the drivers, due to whatever fix they had to apply for UE4 shadows on AMD drivers in the past. If you play on lowest lighting and shadows you have the best chance at not crashing at each LOD shift.

Lighting on cursed and disabling shader cache in Radeon settings did the trick for me. My game used to crash every 5 minutes it was literally unplayable. I did the steps mentioned above and it's all good now. Remember to download AMD Clean Uninstall Utility before you install the newest drivers.
@Samu3lMumm have you tried all of these steps?
Of course I did. Sorry I am just tired ot explaining this over and over... I had these issues with the E.A. support too and they were telling me to do a clean windows install... I self build my rig and it is only a couple of weeks old. If only two games are not working it is not the users fault.
However the latest driver 18.3.3 is a bit more stable but not much. Now the water only disappears, making the game ugly...
Just want to share with you AMD GPU users that it is not an AMD issue. 4 people including myslef are having the random crashed. All Nvidia GPU. Our specs are as followed:
AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
NVIDIA 970 GTX
16GB RAM
Crashes every 10 hours or soAMD Ryzen 5 1600
NVIDIA 770
8GB RAM
Crashes every 20-30 minutesIntell i7
NVIDIA 780TI
16GB RAM
Crashes every 8-10 minutes (on the clock)Intell i7
NVIDIA 1080
16GB RAM
Crashes every 8-10 minutes (on the clock)We are sharing a digital copy with the four of us (don't know if it makes the diffrence). All four of us are having this issue. All W10, all updated drivers, disabled xbox dvr, xbox overlay. Nothing works. Both AMD and Intell CPU, NVIDIA GPU. Doesn't seem to make a diffrence. We have tried lowering settings, changing regedit values, opening NAT, disabling, enabling firewalls. Nothing works.
Really starting to get desprerate since we have been troubleshooting since launch. Any update would be appreciated.
Interesting, not just an AMD GPU thing or CPU thing for that matter. All I know is that I'm using an i7 and gtx 1070, my brother is on an amd 8350 with r9 280x. His crashes randomly, mine does not. I haven't seen any updates on this from anyone that works on the game and my ticket I made several days ago still hasn't been assigned.
I've been noticing freezes again. I've experienced zero crashes during the final beta but now I crash every 30-60 minutes. I'm still on 18.2.2 (as it worked 100%) but updating to 18.3.3 at the very moment. I still have lighting set to cursed and shader cache turned off. This is a little bit disappointing as I thought it was finally fixed.
@icStatic could you please tell us the state of this currently? There seems to be a lot of people having freezes even on 18.3.3 so I don't get my hopes very high.
@tutorialchimp Hey there. Are you getting a GPU hang (where Windows tells you the driver is being reset) with the game (normally) telling you with an error message, or is the game outright crashing?
We've identified another way to trigger the GPU hang and are talking to AMD about this issue.
As a workaround most people find that setting the lighting to Common will help.
If you are still seeing the game outright crashing with the latest driver then we thought this had been fixed. It's difficult for us to tell what driver version people are on (and lots of people stick to the older driver), but we did see a drop in occurrences of the crash once the new driver came out.
@icstatic It hasn't crashed on 18.3.3 yet. Only played for a little while though. Should have tried it before summoning you, sorry, but I was weirded out when the 18.2.2 stopped working all of sudden.
As to your question, I think it was a GPU hang as I've definitely seen the driver is being reset message multiple times but sometimes it just froze without saying anything. If there's any other thing triggering it I hope you manage to sort it out with AMD.
I hope it's going to be all good now. Thanks for coming here and calming me!
@icstatic My drivers are now upgraded to 18.3.4 and I have set the lighting to common. I have also tried turning off the shader cache as others here have suggested.
I have been experiencing this issue nonstop. It's not a GPU hang. The game altogether locks up with the audio still playing, followed shortly by the audio cutting out. Sometimes the game then shuts itself down. Other times I have to close the application myself through the task bar.
This sometimes can take hours to occur, sometimes it crashes repeatedly within only a few minutes of playing. It has happened on land as well as in the water. If it wasn't for adding people to my friends list and having them re-invite me to matches, I would constantly be disconnected and screwed out of all the gold I would earn from turning things in.

This is my exact same scenario. I'm also running 18.3.4 and have shaders disabled. I don't get a crash message or anything. The screen freezes and the music keeps playing. I close the game by pressing alt+f4.

Setting lighting to cursed and disabling the cache seems to have done it. Was in game for 2 hours and one skeli forte with no problem.
This! I did this last night and played for over 3 hours no freeze. I'm running the latest driver 18.3.4. I will test it again tonight. Hopefully, I will get the same results.
I don't think anyone should mind playing at a lower setting temporarily until the bug gets fixed.

I've set lighting to cursed but "disabling the cache" what mean??!
the game continue to crash when i try to play with friends or Solo, the only mode than i can play is public session with other random players.
I Think is not a problem of AMD cause one of my friend got the same problem with INTEL processor and Nvidia video card, i think is probably a problem of family sharing!
PLS if i have to set something for do some try write here ;)
Disable the shader cache on your gpu. Go to game setting > global, on your amd control panel.
Disable shader cache should be an option
Honestly the difference annoyed me at first but after playing for over an hour without crashing I stopped noticing a difference.
