Commandeer skeleton ships!

  • Ever boarded a skeleton galleon and totally decimated the crew?

You see a big boulder sticking out the water and wanna steer the ship into it, only you cant!

Ever wanted to drop the anchor on a skelly ship so your crew can pelt them silly?

Its strange that you cant do that. Afterall despite it being a cursed ship...its still an anchor and a ship wheel.

It would add a new layer to the combat allowing you to treat it as any other player pvp encounter.

For those who would like the challenge too, you could even get a few players to team up, keeping the skeletons at bay and sail around in it. Obviously it would be a chore and an absolute nightmare with the ever spawning skeletons but it would be hilarious.

The main purpose of my idea though is to use the wheel to steer into stuff to cause damage and also drop anchor just like any other ship.

  • The problem here is that the Skeleton ships aren't real ships. Real ships that can be controlled take insane amount of resources. For every real skeleton ship you would have to kick one player crew from the server, now imagine that there would be 5 or so at once and you basically get the solo private servers.

As @Archaell has already said, skeleton ships would take up even more resources than they already do with this. It wouldn't be quite as bad, since the helm, sails, cannons, damage, and some other things are still there, but it would still take a lot of server power.
There's also the lore. The skeleton ships are alive in their own right - they sail themselves, regardless of crew, and have full control over their sails, rudder and anchor. Curses still affect them, but you can't do it with your own strength.

  • Ahoy,

Great grapeshot of ideas Matey! Ye arrhhh on to some exciting ways to improve the quality of life. I can understand how this is desirable as I have also been on a skele ship and wanted to be able to anchor it. This would essentially be adding another player ship to the server and would result in compromised play for some. It is frustrating. I just use cursed cannonballs to accomplish these tasks. So not really a solution, but an acknowledgement.

  • Ah i had no idea that was a factor.
Quite clever actually to get extra resources i suppose.

Hopefully next gen consoles will be a bit beefy and would allow rare to have a sea of thieves on a next gen with bigger server capacity :)

The cool thing with steering a skeleton ship would be that the skelly would repair the ship for you.
