Quality of Life - Fishing for Stormfish with excessive Lightning

  • Today my friend and I were struck by lightning over 200 times...
After an 11 hour Shadow Stormfish grind, we ended up only seeing 2 that we know of and both of them were lost as we were struck by lighting while reeling them in, thus we had nothing to show for any of our efforts. There were even times where we'd get struck 3+ times in less than a minute.

The increased lightning, whilst I understand is needed for the FotD lights, absolutely needs to go back to normal after the event as I can say that today was a seriously unfun experience and makes catching even a small number of Stormfish (or Blackcloud Wreckers) frankly enfuriating.

    Possible solutions:

    1. Revert lightning frequency back to pre-FotD conditions, but still allow the chance to be higher when wearing the special belts or having a sword out.
    2. If the frequency of lightning is going to be like this from now on, if there are special belts to increase the chances of getting struck by lightning, there should also be special ones to decrease that chance as well and put it back to pre-FotD conditions (to keep it fair to those who finished Hunters Call before FotD).
    3. Equipping a fishing rod makes your chances of getting struck by lightning pre-FotD conditions.

TL;DR Before the FotD update, getting Stormfish was definitely challenging, but it wasn't nearly as impossible or frustrating as it is now with lightning strikes often happening multiple times per minute.

Please take a look at this, Rare.

  • @o-h-g-r-i-n-g-o What belts actually increase lightning strikes? If you are saying the admiral ones (I think that was it) do because they reference it in the description then that description has been there for as long as I can remember and does not actually increase lightning strikes (at least to my knowledge, I don't see why they would make "cosmetic only" give an advantage)

  • @jofjjay I thought they did increase the chances, and as they're available for everyone to buy I don't see them as being a big advantage. However, if it's true they don't increase the odds of getting struck at least players going for the FotD will still have the option to equip their sword in a storm for that extra advantage...All I know is, there needs to be a balance between those players getting their white flame and fishing players not getting fried by lightning multiple times per minute.

  • @o-h-g-r-i-n-g-o Yeah I don't think the belt actually effects it but imo the best thing would be to make it so that you cant get struck while with a fishing rod out, Fishing in storms is already a bit of a pain.

  • It would be cool to have a flag (defaulted to everyone, no need to purchase) that wasn't actually a flag, but a lightning rod... as long as your ship had it equipped, only the crow's nest would get struck

  • @o-h-g-r-i-n-g-o get on an island and stand so that the water goes up to your knees, everytime i do this i never get struck by lighting. i dont think you can get struck in deep water. also pay attention to the shadow of the fish, if it doesnt look like a storm fish right click and throw the line back in so that you dont waste the bate on a normal fish

  • It's likely going to revert back to pre-FotD occurrences on the next update. Although currently only holding your sword increases the probability. The belts do nothing.

Check shipwrecks and Barrels of Plenty for now.

I think that the third solution would be the best one :
Being equiped with the fishing rod prevents a little bit more the player from being thunderstruck !
(Weither wearing a banjo should increase it because AC/DC rocks !)
