For the love of god please fix the sword for PVP

  • This has been an apparent problem ever sense I started playing a month ago, the sword is a overpowered weapon for pvp in general not just boarding a ship. All a player needs to do to be extremely effective at pvp is spam the space bar or A button paired with right trigger or left click, it is very very hard to shoot back and hit a player bunny hopping, this is very frustrating and causes a lot of griefing, first hit stun second hit stun third hit stun fourth hit stun fifth hit kill, this should not happen, it makes the blunderbuss look like hot trash, I don’t use the sword because of the anger that has been inflicted on me and I don’t want to sink to that level, most of the time sword bunnyhoppers are cussing you out and making you so angry that you don’t want to scuttle for the chance of downing them and getting sweet revenge this has got to change, maybe sword doesn’t stun you and disorient you by sending you flying backwards, only for pvp though not pve it’s pretty good for pve

  • I know it can certainly cause grief, that's for sure. In almost every instance that I use a blunderbuss, I lose against the sword. I know why it's called that now too - it's because you feel like a blundering idiot for using it.

    The sword is supposed to be a versatile weapon, but it's not. It's now the OP weapon in most engagements. In an attempt to balance guns after the double gun exploit fiasco, it's now the top dog, and it shouldn't be - it should be balanced.

    I'm still waiting for that to happen, Rare.

    From hit registration issues to OP stunning mechanics and pointless defense options, nothing is fine when in personal combat on the SoT. It's incredibly inconsistent at best.

    You're telling me you've never had hit registration issues or been block stunned? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

    On-foot combat is so bad, I actively try to keep combat ship-to-ship as much as possible.

  • @galactic-geek I did with the versions before this last one. I haven't seen any issues with this latest one.

  • Idk about you but for me it seems ever sense Rare said they fixed hit reg it feels worse

    I've lost every on-foot engagement since the last 1...

    Hmm, I wonder if it has to do with the new sensitivity options?

  • @galactic-geek hmmm... this game does really depend on a good ping for smooth combat. I've actually been getting alot of kills lately, since my cable lines were replaced.

  • what irks me the most is when cannonballs shots are waaaaay higher than they should be. seems to be happening more often and I think is probably definitely tied to ping.

    Sounds like you defeated yourself by getting angry to be honest.

  • The sword is strong yes. It also requires you to get close. Using a sniper or pistol while keeping away from sword can combat this. The sword I believe takes 6 hits for a kill. I normally let the guy slice me 3 times and then I blunder him during his cooldown. Because he has to get close to me I use it to my advantage. There are ways to defend yourself. You just have to adapt. Never lose your cool and keep calm. The biggest ship sinker is yourself. People make most of their mistakes under pressure. The combat currently isn’t at its best state but right now it works and I’m enjoying it. If I get killed it’s usually because I make a bad decision. Example jump left instead of right. I’m real life if someone was charging me with a sword I wouldn’t let them get close to me. I would gun them down from a distance. Even though the sword is very strong it still seems balanced to me. Remember to block don’t let yourself get outnumbered or cornered.

    What's your next argument? Trying to dodge attacks should not be allowed?

    If they become harder to hit, i would assume that is the entire point, to avoid getting killed, so that they can win the fight? Sounds like basic PvP to me, man... I have no idea what you are getting worked up over. : /

    If you don't want to be killed, try not to be killed, don't just stand there and receive all damage with your face, lol.

    Having bad aim IS frustrating yeah... I have bad aim, i do get frustrated when i can't hit someone who is very clearly good at NOT being hit... Is that griefing though? No, not even close, it's just me being a goofy goober... And i play around my weaknesses, and as a result, i usually win, regardless of my terrible aim.

    If i lose, i was simply not better than my opponent, it's really that simple. It's a game, if there was no risk of losing, it wouldn't be a game, so expect to lose, and try to overcome the challenges, that's the game.

    Be a gamer, lose, learn, git gud, win, celebrate, repeat... That's the gamers treadmill. xD

    I agree the whole stun thing should be removed from the game, only powerful attacks should stun like that, like for example sword lunge, but regular sword slashes? Nah.

    But since it's still a thing, why don't you practice getting better at NOT being hit in the first place? :o

    It IS though? The sword is intended to be a pirate's bread and butter, because it doesn't require ammo, if you rely on guns, expect to lose most of your fights, the blunderbuss is usually useless if your accuracy is bad. You're a pirate, get swashbuckling, use your sword! o_o

    So, pride and stubbornness? Suit yourself, but as long as you rely on guns, you wont be a successful pirate, you should understand that. : /

    Okay, so... Don't get angry, be smart, and outsmart them, scuttle... If you are blaming your losses on anger, then anger is what your problem is, not the people dragging it out of you, they're relying on YOUR anger to be successful pirates, so as long as you allow yourself to be angry, they will keep winning. :o

    Also, if they are breaking the pirate code, report them to Rare through the appropriate methods, and they will handle it.

    Cacks (can't spell it) preferred 150Mb cable. Its okay but is prone to packet loss which causes lots of hiccups in sot, sometimes. It's on cx's end. Moving to att fiber 300/300 today, if the tech actually shows up.

  • @MarsMayflower trust me you will love fiber optic. It’s amazing! My family got 50mb per second fiber optic for our old house and it worked wonders every game I played was silky smooth and ping was never a problem. Now I unfortunately live somewhere where that’s not available and have to live with 25mb per second wireless internet that costs twice as much as our old at&t plan did and is way worse. I can’t play apex on it even with a Ethernet cable.

    While I'm hardwired with ethernet, I'm stuck with AT&T DSL with only about 6mbps down and 1 up - and that's the best I can get in my area! In fact, it's the only ISP in my area that's not satellite-based (which is EVEN WORSE). And that's not all! I get charged HUNDREDS of dollars each month for overage charges (limited to only 150GB per month before additional charges kick in) on what should only be $40 a month. With Netflix and constant updates on Xbox alone, it's simply not enough.

    If I start any kind of major upload, the whole network slows to a crawl...

    It's absolutely criminal, except it isn't... When it should be. It's a legal monopoly.

    Until they're forced to upgrade the infrastructure, or until I can move out, I'm stuck with it...

    Go ahead and come at me spamming that sword and see what happens.
    I will say miss the old combat, but mate u are making it sound way worse than it is.

    You miss a swing and you are doomed. I do miss that blocking isnt what it used to be.
