@coffeeart687098 We played the alphas, betas for testing the game but that's not where my post is going.
I do realize that they shared quite the info but it feels off just going secretive now which is causing some concerns in the forums.
Recently Rare has gone a bit secretive?
@wearelegion I know! that's why it's raising concerns over the interwebs now.
The main reason of my post is to highlight that a'lot of players are very suspicious. There still have to be SOME surprises for launch. It's a game about explorarion and discovery. I'd be pretty bummed if I knew everything that was in there before playing it.
Heck, I've actually taken to avoiding some information as we've gotten closer to launch. Just so I can still be surprised.
It's like in the first closed beta session. I was running away from a pursuing crew when I accidently sailed off the edge of the map.
Now, I hadn't heard what happened when you went off the map, so imagine my slack-jawed panic when the sea turned red and my ship started disintegrating around me.
I want more experiences like that. And I know that can come with a bit of buyer's risk, but Rare's got a good enough track record that I think it's worth it.
@zynthetikk86 Well mate,NMS was an indie game by indie developers that already looked shady in the start.
Here we have one of the largest publishers in the world accompanied by a Triple AAA company,it's quite different.@mzargothekhajit I just don't see "It's coming sometime after launch."
and "We're looking into it." as being shady, its coming just means they don't have an exact date... and saying a date then it not releasing because it actually wasn't ready will just upset people, Same with "We're looking into it" basically discussing or investigating it I don't see whats the problem with those responses just because they don't go into every little detail about the investigation or discussion.Altogether I don't see why leaving some things to be discovered at launch is a bad thing... makes people curious and leaves some things for you to find out and isn't that part of the fun?
@zynthetikk86 said in Recently Rare has gone a bit secretive?:
How can people be so naive? The reason they are vague is the same reason tha sean murry never told people that NMS didn't have multiplayer, they don't want to lose sales.
NMS had no playable alpha/beta or even demo for that matter. It was just overhyped c**p with nothing to support it outside a few trailers (that of course didn't make the game).
That is actually comparing apples and oranges. If Rare didn't put up playable tests, I would agree with you but it's an entirely inaccurate comparison in this case.
@mzargothekhajit why would it be different, both are companys trying to make money. Telling people that features won't be in the game will make them lose sales. Indie or not, doesn't matter when it comes to business ethics.
HEllo,
Yes, as many argue, Rare is a business in the first place. It makes marketing decisions..
Let's not forget that it also is a group of people trying to work together... Has anyone here ever managed to do everything as exactly as planned in any one day in your life? One could suggest that life is about being adaptive, this goes for game development, as well as customers' expectations.
I remember how world of warcraft developed over the years, from even before the (leaked) alpha 2years before launch all the way to later addons, people complained all the time about everything... Developers were not anwering all questions asked either and so on... yet it has been the best game ever for many of us.
Even wow's PR was such a bumpy road. Of course, S.O.T is not Wow, I repeat, S.O.T is NOT W.O.W.People go mad because they do love the game but want more and because social medias over-hype games as never before. (I know from experience ^^)
See you in-game folks!

Nothing to do with shady...there is nothing gained by answering, thats all.
There's lot's for them(Rare) to gain, customers for one.
Not right now...not a single customer right now is making his decision to spend money on SoT depending on the answering of a few questions 4 days prior to game launch.
Again...in a few days, yes I agree...back to usual without cherypicking questions.

Yo, just wanted to add my two cents in.
This isn't an Early Access game and I've said this before, Rare doesn't need your help designing or making a game. THEY KNOW, they've been doing it for years.
I realize that might be blunt, but it's the truth.
just my 2 cents.
you're right they don't need our help in designing or making the game.
BUT THEY NEED OUR MONEY!!!!
I realize this may be blunt, but it's the truth.just my 2 cents
you're right, they do need our money
BUT IT'S TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE GAME IN ADDITION TO ALSO HAVING MORE MONEY, NOT EVERYBODY IS PURELY GREEDY!!!
I realize this may be a bit blunt, but it's the truth.@noruas sagte in Recently Rare has gone a bit secretive?:
@kustho u don't know what every customer is thinking.
nope...I just need the majority, who ever is undecided now..well...should just wait for after launch to know more. Its just a few days...

Can any of you name one game that has been more open than RARE? seriously lets here them. has to be a major title, no stupid little mmo nobody ever heard of either.....should be interesting to see if anything comes up...

No Man's Sky is a revolutionary niche game that the mainstream crowd obviously can't understand.
Now let's go back to the praising of Sea of Thieves.
@personalc0ffee
Don’t justify people looking into the files on their computers?Do you know how data mining works? You’re literally just digging through the game files that are on your PC.
To name a few:
- Aion
- Ark: Survival Evolved
- Company of Heroes
- Dauntless
- Dreadnought
- Eve
- Firefall
- Fortnite
- Orcs Must Die: Unchained
- Star Citizen
- Star Wars: The Old Republic
- Warframe
- World of Warcraft
@lobofh The only thing even sort of revolutionary was the fact that it had so many "unique" planets because of their planet creating algorithms. That achievement gets downplayed a bit when you realize that a large portion of the planets look very similar, and the fact that they lied about almost every other aspect of the game and planets, such as planets having different resources based on how close they are to their star, which they don't even technically orbit around.
You could also call it revolutionary in the fact that now people are extremely wary of purchasing $60 games and it caused the indie scene to die down a bit (not too much though).
So of course it's comparing apples to oranges. Hello Games has lied, Rare has not.
@ant-heuser-kush
I’m not sure what kind of trouble I can get into for other people looking into the game files on their Pc that Rare has released and me reading about the files they’ve discovered. It’s not like someone is hacking rare or anything it’s simply digging through the game files and looking for file names that represent something that is not currently available.

Revolutionary as they created a totally procedural game of exploration (with an outstanding atmosphere), which is now been copied by a bunch of other creators, like Star Citizen amongst others.
Nitpicking to find excuses for an artificial hate, like the non issue of the resources, won't change the uniqueness of No Man's Sky.
They didn't lie, Multiplayer tag was removed in Steam store months before the release, people should read what they buy. Features come and go in real world development, multiplayer was just a tangential one in a basically singleplayer experience, no matter how hard some guys try to lie themselves.
On the release price I can't disagree, a 20-30 euros Early Access on Steam and the big hate campaign had not existed, but sadly Sony had to interfere and build the absurd marketing campaign around an indie game.
Hopefully the high price of Sea of Thieves doesn't send us to the same place.

Few things I've noticed from this thread. Many people here seem to not play a lot of games and/or know much in the gaming news space outside of the more popular stories. This will probably be taken as being a meanie head but limited experience means being ignorant and as the saying goes "ignorance is bliss". Not saying people should spend all day playing games or catching up on news, nor is pointing out ignorance bad. Contrary to what most people feel.
People are worried and calling them out because Rare gave them what was supposed to be a taste. Always making sure to let people know that there will be more. They really just meant that you'll be scraping the sides of the bowl for that "more". It's well known to anybody that's kept up with MMO's that the first month or two is a complete make or break situation. This game isn't an MMO but they've put themselves in a spot where that will be the case. The hardcore crowd will be a legend in a week, the moderate crowd will be around two weeks and the casual crowd will take time but a lot will be carried there from the hardcore and moderate. A giant portion of the player base will have seen everything this game has in less than a month. If they take three months to release content then the future of the game doesn't look promising.
Sidenote: CD Projekt Red are a developer that is quite open(working for them is another story though from what's known). As for what games have been as open as SoT there are plenty. Most have the same awful answers that Rare gives so honestly most Early Access games will fill that. Arc fits, Fortnite fits, several MMO's fit such as FF14. Yooka Laylee if you want something from some of the N64 Rare staff. Letting players play and see what's in your game isn't some amazing thing these days. As I said SoT conducts itself much like an Early Access title with few differences.
Lastly I saw someone say something like Rare doesn't owe us anything. If they want their game to be a hit that last and not a sour taste like Destiny 2 then they do owe us things. Oh and you can't claim they love when players find info by themselves then get mad at datamining because you wouldn't tell them anything. That's just stupid.
I've said this many times and I'll say it again since people race to write the most emotional response they can. I like the game and will be playing at launch with friends.
There's absolutely no point in trying to criticize rare on this forum, this forum is for people who just (Mod Edited) over anything rare does even though people seem to forget that the people who made rare good have long gone and throughout the years since have been an absolute trainwreck until now.
That being said all you're gonna get is "wahh you're so entitled" because wanting to know what's in a game you're about to drop £50 for (which is (Mod Edited) expensive) is way too much to ask for and you should check your privilege says @LoboFH
or you get people like @CoffeeArt687098 who are trying way too hard to get free merch or an tour around the rare studio by (Mod Edited) them as hard as possible.
Nobody trusts developers anymore, we've been stung year after year and nothing rare has done has shown any different.
People have played the beta, they've complained that there's not much to do and what does rare and their (Mod Edited) say? oh "it's only a beta!"
You'll all see tuesday, only things left to add is more clothes, kraken and yup thats about it.
The week before launch and a studio "goes quiet"?
Did you stop to think what they might actually be doing?
Just a hunch, but they might be polishing like crazy and fine tuning as much as they can before live release.
Communications to the community would be dialed back for the time being. In saying that, there was an AMA just done! What more are you asking for?Days of entitlement, indeed.
@ant-heuser-kush
Not sure how they can punish me for telling people they can literally look into the files on their PC that Rare has sent out to be downloaded by the player base.@lobofh Here is a complete list of everything that Hello Games lied about with links to where they said or had shown these things: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4y1h9i/wheres_the_no_mans_sky_we_were_sold_on_a_big_list/
None of this is nitpicking. These were all promised by Hello Games, and the fact that it was sold as such a complex world when in reality it wasn't. The fact that it was a procedural world, doesn't make the exploration any more revolutionary. Again, a lot of the planets start to look the same, and I can't tell you how many times I found the building that had the same alien p******e thing in it, just with a slightly different variation on the puzzle, which goes to show that nothing is truly that diverse in the game. Yes, the game is unique, but that doesn't make it any more revolutionary.
So this again shows that it is comparing apples to oranges.
There's that buzzword again lads - "entitled".
Say you go into a store to buy a TV, there's a £600 tv there and before spending your hard earned cash you'd like to know everything about it, the brand, the panel, the warranty etc but that would make you entitled, entitled for wanting to know what a product is and what it does before dropping your cash.
You idiot, you're meant to pay them before you ask questions, duh.
Honestly get a grip.
I've been playing games since I was in elementary school and we started with our Atari in the basement all the way up to the Xbox one, some 35 years later. I remember when the advanced knowledge of what was in a game was nonexistent and every purchase was a gamble.
Back when I first got a Genesis, I probably played through the Aladdin game close to a hundred times. So yeah, maybe I don't need as much as some gamers.
But Rare has shown us a big enough chunk of the game for me to feel comfortable with purchasing it. And I can guarantee that there'll be things I'm disappointed with, because no game is perfect. But again, I feel comfortable enough with the information given that what I like will outweigh what I don't.
If it's not enough for you, then don't buy it. Hold off until you can get the information you want. Personally, I like a bit of surprise in my games.

@snakey9419 Comparing a TV to a game is a bit asinine. Of course, you want to know everything about a TV you're about to buy. But a game, with some emphasis on exploration, is not going to spill everything without taking most of the discovery away. You know at least the basic gist of the game. It's about having fun with your crew, whether they are random or friends. Does this game achieve this for a majority of its players, even in the alpha and beta stages? Yes, as evidenced by youtube, twitch, and the forums.
Of course, this is subjective, and I know people hate this common phrase, but it's kind of true: "If you don't like the core aspects of a game, it probably isn't for you." This is true for any game. Some people like No Mans Sky (as you can see below) because they are fine with the core gameplay of collecting resources to move on to other planets. Some people like CoD because they like arcadey PvP. Some people like Escape from Tarkov becuase of its hardcore, much more realistic gameplay PvP. It depends on what you like. Sea of Thieves core gameplay, doing certain tasks for trading companies to become a legend, all the while making your own story through player interactions and experiences, will not appeal to everybody Knowing about all of the superfluous content will not change the core gameplay one bit.
Also, you can criticise Rare, but it probably won't fly if you talk about how they are secretive(the most common criticism on the forums and subreddit), at least not if its only a few days from launch when we get to see the actual feature set.
@mzargothekhajit
I've been playing games since I had to program them on the Commodore 64.No company has ever been transparent in the history of Gaming consoles until this past decade. We used to have to rent games and try them out to see if we even wanted to buy them or we just flat-out bought them played them and regretted it and trade it in. Most of the time all we had to go by was the art on the box.
This company has been more inclusive and transparent about making their game then they ever needed to be.
I stick by my previous statement. If you couldn't have fun playing the beta or any of the tests and are throwing a fit about Rare not telling you what they put into the game, then this game is not for you.
In fact get ready to be disappointed by many game developers who do the same thing.
