what i think sea of thieves needs most (suggestions and ideas)

  • As i played in the beta what i thought was the most disappointing thing were the progression in a company and the quest these companies give you.

to me i didn't care about the company i just saw it as a means to an end, to get money needed to buy cosmetics, the quest seem too much repetitive and the npc doesn't have other options just than sell quest and sell stuff from that company, that seems alright, but it seems like this needs more work, i didn't feel any accomplishment getting a chest or getting it to the npc, neither buying the shovel or the compass, it just stood there, what really got me excited were the crew i was playing in, the risk of getting other people to my ship or to get killed.

suggestions to make this part more fun and rewarding in my eyes

add more variety to the quest or voyages
As we all know in mmos retrieval quest are annoying, just having to go there check a couple of easy clues that get old in 3 or more voyages, or get to an x from the map and you get the last reward, what i would like to see is puzzles inside the island, or mazes that hide inside the treasure you seek, get curses or traps that make having to get there have more risk but get more gold in the process, give more variety of quest as maybe get rid of all the skeletons in a zone until the chest arrives on the coast, and much more stuff that can make it always fun.

have the npc do more stuff.
give the npc more to do, sell stuff, maybe give away stuff when completing a perfect voyage, a bonus for getting more chest that were in the voyage, getting it as fast as you can, or have specially difficult voyages (not just a long string of islands to get to), give the npc more items to sell that actually benefit you from progressing in that company.

Have other things to do in the world
this is a pirate life i know but it gets boring just getting chest or retrieving things, what about getting you to fish, hunt sharks, get corals, fins secret locations with loot, or easter eggs that give you cosmetics, things that could give to a little adventure to fins it and see what you can do, find maybe lore in game, in forms of letters in a bottle, have minigames in pubs, give achievements with rewards in game could be cool in my opinion, or challenges to do weekly or daily, but maybe that could change the experience.

Give more life to the game
the vegetation looks awesome, but all the islands seem abandoned, with no life in them, just background sounds of birds i cannot see, i want to see more wildlife as diferent kinds of fish, tutles, whales, seaguls, crabs boars and much more, male it seems more alive in a way

  • @lukemake just remember this was just a beta. They only gave you enough to get an idea and for them to do a stress test. Well and also advertise via streamers etc.I figure it was only about 20% of what they all have to offer. Ther will be way more yet to come and most likely constant updates with dlc.

  • @canadianmuscle3 yeah i know, but what we have seen on the trailers for the animals and quest and all that, i still think it's a bit low on what to do or what may be in the game, but i hope it does give much more

    • Fishing
    • Crouching
    • Verbal commands for people without mics
    • A decent tutorial
    • Weapon variety

I'd personally love a bow and arrow

    • Special bullets

Fire bullets, ice bullets and the types - even a rope arrow, maybe.

    • A way to recruit people for your crew in-game + crew alliances

    • Decrease shark spawn

Too many sharks when swimming. The beta's spawn rate made it really annoying to explore underwater spots.

    • Crafting + recipes

Cooking food would be a way to get some special stats or more health points for a limited time, for instance, or even potions to allow for more underwater time and to repel enemies, like sharks, maybe.

    • A way to deal with ships stalking you

I intend to focus on the merchant voyages, so it will be really annoying with some ships start following and killing me just for the lulz not letting me complete my voyages.

  • @lukemake On February 13th we will have a better idea of what will come, personally i'm not warry, i'm sure we will get the right amount of content and thinks to do :)

Remember that the golden age of piracy is still yet to come!

  • @renansl21 i would love to see all of that, but i'm not sure about the crafting but cooking would be awesome, also maybe the special bullets have poison or drunkness, but i don't think ice would fit or fire. all and all seems like all of them would be a cool adition to see

  • @cr0n0d yeah! i'm also waiting for february 13, and i hope they have updates after the game releases, but that may give us microtransactions, so idk, also what could the golde age of piracy give us?

Thats a very good question witch sadly i can't answer.

I guess they have a vision of how the game will be at the end of development (can take years to get there) and that for them is the golden age of piracy.

Just a very wild guess here :)

  • @cr0n0d yeah, seems like the adventure of this game is just beginning

  • @lukemake drunk and poison bullets are waaaaay more interesting than fire and ice haha!

  • @lukemake if you don't like "the company" referring to other people, social interaction, probably not a great game for you.

    ahh i sea, thanks

  • @kruqnut company referring to the progression system the game has, where you get quest and get reputation, the crews and coop are great, i love that part

  • @renansl21 they could be really cool, maybe balance them with less damage or more costly to get

  • "add more variety to the quest or voyages"
i would also like to see more puzzles, traps, as you have said. i especially like the idea of cursed or unique islands; such as an island that only has stormy weather, or an island with shallow water and multiple rocks around it. also islands that specifically curse your crew, such as taking away the crews ammunition and/or food as they set foot on the island.

"have the npc do more stuff."
it is pretty much confirmed by now that there are going to be more NPC's that the player can interact with, but i see you are focusing more on the topic of reward. in terms of reward, i agree. it would be cool if npc's gave you unique voyages as well. for example, a bar owner tasks your crew to hunt down certain animals for their meat.

"Have other things to do in the world"
i think the game will feature it's own mini-game. the devs just released a SoT themed card deck that specifically has a how to play instructions for a Sea of Thieves' card game called "Karnath." other than that, i completely agree. the game is perfect to have hunting gameplay, along with my concept above. also i would like a drinking contest mini-game, to which two player must stay within a certain per glass/round.

"Give more life to the game"
there are going to be pigs, snakes, parrots, a few monsters, and chickens added to the game. but even so, that's still a small number of different animals. i personally would like to see more on predators on islands most of all.

  • NPC pirates at sea or another faction against pirates!

  • I personally think that Sea of Thieves needs a place for players to go and actually create a community.

The tavern sort of does that but at the same time people can be attacked in the tavern. I feel as if it would be a great idea to add a gambling quarter to the bar that does not allow weapons.

This sort of area will promote talking and risking your well earned booty in the search of more riches while being surrounded by friends in a place where stories are shared.

Not only would this serve as a place for players to get together and have fun but also serve as a rumor mill so that word of your deeds can actually spread among the sea's sailors.

I think this would be a great addition seeing as the only reason to go to port is for supplies, and turning in quests.

  • i agree with a lot of the ideas on here. but imo, any sort of leveling/progression system i don't agree with. you'll have a game like destiny where you are doing the same missions/quests over and over and over. i really think a huge variety of puzzles, mazes, and different style quests would be key to giving this game the long life. being able to customize just about anything would be awesome but if i'm going to be customizing my ship, i don't want to lose it. i'll be playing on my own so i also don't want certain quests to be only doable for full crews.

fishing would be cool. they can be used for trading or with bananas.
NPC ships would be a nice add. but if you attack them, you get a notorious level put on you where they will attack you if they see you instead of just going on their way. higher the notorious level the harder the difficulty they will be. notorious level will go down only if you do a quest for the vendor that ship is doing a job for.

i'm sure that all i have for now.

  • @lukemake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB9hJNfMa5M
I believe you will be a happy gamer while playing this.

  • @mysticdragon297
beautiful ideas for everything!!! would love to see each and every one and i think it won't look weird in that kind of world

  • @kougatprince13 it would be nice but i still would be cautious with the topic of safe zones and what other things come with it

  • @hc-king-luis yeah, i want this game to be just always giving me something new, even if it isn't, but that might be too hard for developers so i hope they make a great game

  • @dalinoge
i'm not sure, the other trading companies seem kind of the same, go there get something, come back, what i have a lot of hope is for the souls company, it might give good raids or boss battles

  • add fishing and im 100% in

  • I want a shortcut to look at myself and pose more. Having cosmetics being a focus sucks if you don't really get to see yourself much. Would be good for screenshots too.

I also want NPC ships to hunt and to help me avoid hunters. Imagine leading a galleon into an enemy NPC galleon to throw them off your tail. Plus the world would feel more alive. It feels kinda dead without many NPCs.

This would also lend to a bounty system. Hunting colonial navy/neutral pirate ships would make you wanted by those factions. Would give you endless opportunities to fight and have fun battles, and some fun escapes. And you don't have to hunt them, just if you want.

I know rare just wants it to be PVP, but adding a few PvE elements could add some more things to do in game and enrich the experience. Might even extend the life of the game.

  • @gholin
the short cut could be easy to get and would add more focus on cosmetics, i like that

And i would like to see skeleton npc, idk about pirates npcs or navy npc, and the bounty system could work but might lead players to stop doing pvp

and some safe zones could be awesome, but have a way so they aren't exploited could be nice

  • @renansl21 All the yes to crouching, the amount of times I've dropped a keg of gunpowder in a crevice and been unable to pick it back up... It gets old fast.

It's been a focal point of the developers to keep everything on even playing fields -like the variants of weapons being purely cosmetic and such- with all players and skill is what defines them, if you introduced something like cooking to give stat bonuses then the less resourceful/experienced players would be at an instant disadvantage, which kinda defeats the point.

I'd have to agree with the decreased shark spawn because when you hop in the water and there's 3 sharks coming for you after a few seconds you're kinda b***d if you aren't a quick shot with full ammo.

I'd like to see more variant chests, I mentioned on another thread that it'd be interesting to see heavy chests that lessens your movement speed and perhaps larger chests that needs more than one person to carry, (though the mechanics for that one would be tough and single players would be an issue so maybe not.)

Another thing that's not really an addition but more a change, I'd love to be able to drop a gunpowder keg from atop a cliff onto the beach below -so I don't have to take it down by hand if I want to take it- without it vacuum-suctioning to the side of the cliff where you can't pick it back up.
